Small ruminant keepers’ knowledge, attitudes and practices towards peste des petits ruminants and its control in West Africa: Case studies from Burkina Faso, Mali and Senegal
1. Small ruminant keepers’ knowledge, attitudes and practices
towards peste des petits ruminants and its control in West
Africa: Case studies from Burkina Faso, Mali and Senegal
Conclusion
▪ Many livestock keepers know about PPR.
▪ Most do not know PPR clinical signs.
▪ Few livestock keepers isolate sick animals.
▪ Highest knowledge of PPR vaccine in Burkina
Faso.
▪ High use of antibiotics to prevent disease.
Opportunities for increasing awareness of PPR
and control strategies amongst livestock
keepers.
Introduction
Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) eradication
in low- and middle-income countries requires
participation of small ruminant keepers. The
evaluation of the knowledge, attitudes, and
practices of the main beneficiaries of control
strategies is an important component.
Aim
▪ To measure small ruminant keepers’
knowledge of PPR disease
▪ To measure attitude and practices towards
PPR control
