9. Not a Raja Ravi Varma painting, though often mistaken to be.
(4)Story behind which well-known household level painting???
A few days after Deepavali,a 15 year old Gita draped her mother’s new sari on a
whim.Being very close to her father, she immediately ran to him to show him how she
looked.
The moment he saw her,he said
“You are looking very beautiful. Let me make a sketch of you.”
For the next three days, she posed for half an hour everyday, wearing the
now-famous light lavender colour sari and holding a X in her hands.
The painter wanted to portray her in this feeble yellow light in a way that her face
is the only glowing thing illuminated in the darkness.
Since his own daughter was the subject, the painter refused to sell it to anyone.
That is,till the Maharaja of Mysore asked him.
The painting is now found in the JayaChamarajendra Wodeyar Art gallery,
alongside many famous Raja Ravi Varma paintings.

A and Z are known to most people as wives of famous national figures.

Having established a good friendship, they had good rapport and would often write to each other.
At that time, both their husbands too, were on good terms with each other.
Years later though,A’s daughter and Z’s husband went at loggerheads on a decisive national level
(to put it very basically)
In fact, before starting an all-India movement against A’s daughter,
Z’s husband retuned all the letters that A had written to Z.
Also,in 1958,more than 20 years since the death of A,Z wrote a letter to A’s husband expressing her
wish to start a school for girls and name it after A.
This school,sadly,never came to be.
A’s husband’s reply letter to this decision wasn’t among the letters returned by Z’s husband,to A’s
daughter.
A and Z are both well known freedom fighters in their own right.
