LESSON PLAN
Education Unit : JHS IPA Terpadu
Class : VIII / 2
Subject : Science
Topic/ sub topic : Simple Machine / Inclined Plane
Time Allocation : 1 x 25 Minutes
A. MAIN COMPETENCY
1. Respect and appreciate the teachings of their religion.
2. Respect and appreciate the honest behavior, discipline, responsibility, care
(tolerance, mutual assistance), mannered, confident in interacting effectively with
the social and natural environment within reach of the association and their
presence.
3. Understand and apply knowledge (factual, conceptual and procedural) based on
curiosity about science, technology, arts, culture related to the phenomena and
events that visible.
4. Try, process, present, and reason in the realm of the concrete (use, describe,
assemble, modify, and create) and the realm of the abstract (write, read, count,
draw, and compose) according to what has been learned at school and other
sources that have the same viewpoint/ theories.
B. BASIC COMPETENCY
3.5 Understanding why people create and use simple machines to make tasks easier
to perform (mechanical advantage).
4.5 Doing experiment how inclined planes function and how they are used to move
heavy objects.
C. INDICATORS OF LEARNING
3.5.1 Identifying the simple machine types
3.5.2 Explaining why people create and use simple machine especially inclined
plane to make tasks easier to perform (mechanical advantage).
4.5.1 Explaining how inclined planes function
4.5.2 Explaining how they are used to move heavy objects
D. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Students can identify the simple machine types after watching a video
2. Students can explain why people create and use simple machine especially
inclined plane to make tasks easier to perform (mechanical advantage) after
watching a video
3. Students can explain how inclined planes function after doing an experiment.
4. Students can explain how they are used to move heavy objects after doing an
experiment
E. MATERIALS
When we do work, we must expend energy. To conserve our energy and make
our work easier, humans have invented a wide variety of machines. Machines are
simply devices that help us to apply forces and do work. Some machines, such as

2

power saws, tractors, or cars are complicated and have many moving parts. For
thousands of years, we have also used many simple machines to help us do our work.
Simple machines are devices that change the force we can exert on an object. They
allow us to lift heavier objects or pull things with more force than we could without
the simple machine. Simple machines often have only one or even no moving parts.
The six simple machines that your students will explore in this project are:
 Levers
 Inclined planes
 Wedges
 Screws
 Wheels and axles
 Pulleys
Inclined Plane
The inclined plane is a very simple machine with no moving parts. It is a sloping
surface with one raised end. The more gentle the slope of an inclined plane, the easier
it will be to slide or roll the object. A ramp is a common type of inclined plane.
Furniture movers use ramps because it is easier to slide or roll a heavy box up a ramp
than to lift it up into a truck.A wedge is like an inclined plane, but instead of helping
move objects to a higher point, a wedge helps to cut objects apart or hold them
together. Knives and axes are common wedges used to cut objects apart, while a door
stop is a wedge used to hold objects together. Thesharper the edge of a wedge, the
easier it is to drive in or under an object. Screw is use the principle of inclined plane, a
screw is a rod with a helical thread (groove) around its outside surface. There is often
another matching piece with a hole threaded on the inside. The rod moves through
this hole as it is turned. A nut and bolt is an example. Screws have many purposes
including fastening objects together (wood or metal screws), making holes in the
objects (drill bits), or squeezing things together (a vise). A wood screw is a
combination of a screw (the threaded body) and a wedge (the sharp point).
F. LEARNING APPROACH/LEARNING MODEL/LEARNING METHODS
1. Learning Approach : Contextual
2. Learning Model : Discovery
3. Learning Methods : Experiment and observation
G. LEARNING PROCESS
No Activity Discovery’s steps Activities Description Duration
1. Introduction • Teacher greets the
students and ask one
student to lead the pray;
• Teacher check
attendance of student.
• Teacher Reminds the
students to previous
lesson about lever;
• Teacher starts the lesson
with questions that relate
the topic to real life :
5 Minutes

3

Have you ever climbed
the high rise building?
How to go to roof top of
the building? Why
staircase can easier our
work?
• Teacher tells the learning
purpose and advantages
to the students;
• Teacher devides students
into three groups, each
group consist of 4-5
students;
2. Core activity 1. Stimulation
2. Problem
statemen
3. Data collection
4. Verification
and
5. Generalization
Observing
 Students see a simple
machine video’s
 Asking
 After watching simple
machine video’s, student
ask to teacher why simple
machine easier our work.
Then, teacher explain
mecanical advantages
matter’s
 Experiment
 Students Identification
the example of inclined
plane.
 Students do inclined
plane experiment with
some items that have
been provided.
Assosiating
 Student discuss the
worksheets that given by
teacher.
Communicating
 Students present the
result of discussion
 Confirmation of the
student presentation by
the teacher.
17
Minutes
3. Post Activity  Teacher with Students
conclude the material that
has been studied 3 Minutes

4

 Teacher gives assigment
to student.
 Teacher end the
learning process with
prayers and greetings.
