LOCATIONS
Our opening sequence will be shot mainly at the train station where Ethan
runs away to. However due to the fact that we are going to be having
flashbacks during our opening sequence that means that we are going to be
filming at more than just the station.
One of the flashbacks is when Ethan sees the two people arguing on the
other side of the station, this reminds him of when he was living in the foster
home and his two foster parents would continually argue. So for this part of
the opening sequence we will need to film somewhere that looks like a house.
Now for the other flashback, it is simply just seeing a hand grab a bottle, this
shot will be at a high angle and possibly over the shoulder and so you'll only
see the floor (as a location). This can therefore be filmed almost anywhere
with a pavement, or suitable flooring.
WHERE IS IT GOING TO BE?
• When shooting at the train station we wanted to achieve a very
derelict and neglected appearance to the station as this would
fit in with the main themes of our film.
• We didn’t want there to be too many people there either so
that again we could achieve a derelict look, and that way our
protagonist Ethan would be made to feel even more isolated
than he already was.
• Finally we wanted somewhere that was close by so that if
anything wen wrong on the day of shooting then we could
easily go back there and re-film it if need be.
TRAIN STATION-CRITERIA
• Our initial idea for the train station was
Bodmin Parkway.
• The reason why we thought of this station was
because it was very isolated and it was quite
derelict for a lot of the time which is the ideal
situation for us, and it’s a very small station.
• The reason why we didn’t like this location is
because Bodmin is in Cornwall and due to the
little time that we have to film there isn't any
possibility of us being able to get down there
in time.
LOCATION 1- TRAIN STATION
• The second idea that we had for our train
station was Quorn station.
• The reason why this was an ideal choice for us
is because the station is very small and again is
derelict like the last one. Also its very quaint
and doesn’t have a lot going on there, neither
would there be any inconveniences filming
there as it is free to get onto a platform.
• The reason why we didn’t like this station is
because it doesn’t run any modern trains
anymore only, steam and coal trains, therefore
it doesn’t fit in with the modern society that
our film is set in.
LOCATION 2- TRAIN STATION
• The third location that we thought of was
Leicester train station.
• We liked this station because it isn't
particularly big and also it is close by. Also
there is one part of the station that is very
separate to the main two platforms and so will
create the isolated atmosphere that we are
trying to achieve
• We didn’t like this station because it can get
quite busy at times which could be a hassle
when it comes to actually filming.
LOCATION 2- TRAIN STATION
FINAL CHOICE-TRAIN STATION
• The whole of the house will never actually be shown, it will only be a
room with two people arguing in the doorway.
• We wanted somewhere that has quite a narrow corridor leading to the two
people arguing in the doorway, this isolates the camera (which is acting as
if it’s a person, however it will be on a dolly) making the shot seem very
cramped and costrophobic.
• We wanted to avoid somewhere that was really open as it will seem as
though Ethan has all the place in the world to run and hide to however we
wanted to keep the idea that he is trapped and cannot escape the arguing
and shouting.
• We wanted somewhere that looked either quite run down or at least not
very nice so that that way we can tell the audience that Ethan is still not
living in fit conditions for a teenager to be living in. especially after all of
the things that Ethan has been through as well.
HOUSE CRITERIA
LOCATION 1-HOUSE
• The first location that we had in mind was
Josh’s house. (Josh is a group member).
• The reason why this location was good was
because it was one of our group’s houses and
so we could access it easily, also the door
makes a loud slam which is an effect that we
liked.
• The reason why we didn’t like it was because
the corridor isn’t long enough also it isn’t
closed in i.e. there aren’t any walls either side
of the door and so we cant create the isolated
effect that we wanted. In the room where the
argument would take place there is a mirror
directly opposite where the camera will be
which would obviously ruin the shot as the
camera would be clearly visible.
LOCATION 2-HOUSE
• The second location chosen for the house
scene was Nick’s house. (Nick is a very close
friend of the group).
• The reasons why we thought that this was a
good location were that we it had the walls
along the corridor that we wanted, also the
door to the room where the argument will be
taking place makes a loud slam, again another
effect which we wanted.
• The reason why we didn’t like it was because it
isn’t any of our houses and so there could be a
problem with availability.
LOCATION 3-HOUSE
• The third place that we had in mind was our
school, Ratcliffe College.
• We thought that this was a good location
because it has the tight long corridor that we
wanted to create the theme of isolation, also
the room on the other side of the door looks
like a home, which makes the scene seem more
realistic.
• The reason why we didn’t like this location is
because the door at the end doesn’t slam
properly as it has a weight on It, also there are
lots of doors in the corridor which is
conventional for a house.
