2. Alley
3. Roseberry Park
4. House - Kitchen
The location we have chosen is The Rising Sun pub in Epsom. We chose this location because
it is a pub surrounded by a street of houses, we felt this would be a suitable place to film our
soap as it is a similar setting inspired by Eastenders. As Eastenders is a popular soap we
decided this type of area must be suitable for a soap opera.
We had a few ideas of panning shots to show the surrounding area and also maybe a low angle
shot that slowly rises to a high angle shot of the pub.
There is an alley right next to the pub which we felt would be suitable for our soap as we need
an area with low key lighting which can be more difficult to obtain outside. However, the alley
is covered by trees so may be more low key lighting.
We also decided to use Rosebery Park as one of our locations as this is an open space where
we can get shots in high key lighting but also darker low key lighting in the areas more
covered by trees. We considered using a graveyard as a location for a close up shot of a grave
stone or a long shot of all the grave stones to reveal a death, however we decided against this
as we felt it would be more difficult to obtain permission to film there and it may be
disrepectful, therefore we decided to use a different element to reveal the death instead which
will be a close up shot of a death certificate.
The final location we have chosen is a house. This will be one of our group memebers houses
and so they have given us permission to be there. We chose to use a house as it will give the
trailer a more realistic and relatable feel for our audience and also a setting of a kitchen will fit
better with the domestic violence scene. We also considered a house as in one of our scenes
we want a close up shot of a galss of red wine to spill over, we were going to film this in the
pub but after consideration we decided it wouldn’t be a good idea to film that scene in the pub
as the owners wouldn’t want to clean it up. Therefore, we chose to film this scene in the
kitchen so we can have a close up of the wine spilling over into the sink so it doesn’t create a
mess.
However, after further consideration we decided not to use inside The Rising Sun pub as a
location for filming. This is because the only scene we were going film inside the pub was
when a wine glass gets smahsed. We decided that this was not a good idea to film inside the
pub as the owners may not want us doing that, we therefore chose a different location, a
2
kitchen in a group members house, to film this scene instead. We are still using the outside of
the pub and the surrounding location to film.
Suitability, permissions, why there etc.
Potential Hazards/Risks
Location specific -
Why?
How will this be resolved?
There may be hazards of cars as there is a road in one of our
locations, however this location is not in the town centre and
therefore the road isnt that busy. We could resolve this
hazard by always staying clear of the road. Also, we will need
to obtain permission from the owners of ‘The Rising Sun’ pub
if we want to film inside the pub. We can do this by writing a
letter or sending an email to the owner’s asking for
permission to film in the pub. The other locations we have
chosen are public spaces, therefore we will not need to write
a letter asking for permission as they are open to the public.
The house that we are oing to use will be one of the group
memebers houses therefore they have given us permission
to film there.
