This document outlines a lesson plan to teach students about nebulae through hands-on activities. The plan includes having students act out the formation of nebulae by getting smaller and hotter, then throwing off gas and becoming stars. Students will then make their own nebulae by painting papers with gouache paints and glitter to represent different nebula types. Safety materials like freezer bags are provided for the painting to prevent messy hands. The lesson aims to make abstract space topics more concrete for students through embodied drama and art activities.
9. RATIONALE
This drama plan was prepared the
reason why space and nebula are
abstract topic for the students. These
topics become more concrete by the
help of this drama and paint activities.
Firstly, it is so important to take
attention of the students.
10. Therefore, the teacher comes to
class with a nebula bottle. They can
link between the topic and the bottle
when she starts to teach the topic.
She prepares colorful PowerPoint and
uses some realistic pictures. For
example, there is a nebula type which
is called Horse head Nebula.
12. They can’t understand, so she puts
a real horse head and they can
understand it easily. In practice stage,
they become nebula by acting out. In
the follow up, they create their own
nebulae with their friend next to by
using two gouache color and glitter.
Finally, they give them a name.
15. PRESENTATION
Nebula is a gas cloud in the
galaxy. It becomes smaller (by acting
out with my hands) and hotter (by
doing my hands like hand fan). As it
becomes smaller, it throws a gas.
Then, they become cold (acting out)
and become a star.
18. The teacher starts lesson with the
bottle nebula which was prepared at
home because it takes long time in the
class. The teacher explains the kinds of
nebulae by PowerPoint.
19. The teacher needs 12 students for
activity.
Eight of students become a circle
and four of them stand outside of the
circle. The students become stars. The
teacher gives them stars and they
hang.
22. Students in the circle keep colorful
pompons to show nebulae’s colors .They
are gas clouds (give them cloud
pictures)
The students get hotter and
smaller
23. The two students get out from the
circle. They turn to star. The teacher
gives them stars, Then, they act out
the nebula.
28. The teacher gives them papers.
The teacher gives them gouache and
sponges. They color their paper with
their friend. Then, the teacher puts
them some glitter on their work..
30. The teacher shows them her
nebulae as an example and shows them
how to do. She gives them freezer bags
to wear to their hands because they
make their hand dirty without it.
33. Firstly, The teacher wants to buy
glove but their hands too small to wear
it. Therefore, it is useful to use
freezer bags. Also, she gives them
construction papers with paper behind
them because they can paint their
desk, too.
35. They make their own nebulae and
present their nebulae’s each other.
