Rockwell Automation is the world’s largest industrial
automation and information firm with 22,500
employees and customers in more than 80 countries.
Rockwell Automation wanted to transform the way
they do business in the oil and gas industry by
bringing the data generated by even the most
remote assets into the cloud and using advanced
analytics to provide unprecedented business
insights.
o Improves access to production and supply
chain data worldwide, reducing downtime
costs by as much as $300,000 per day
o Modernizes transaction data by replacing a
paper-based system with immediate electronic
records
o Enables data insights that help customers
orchestrate everything from deliveries to
equipment maintenance
BENEFITSSOLUTION
Rockwell Automation created a solution to monitor
expensive capital assets and use that data to improve
operational efficiency, drive better performance
and enable innovation. Based on Microsoft Azure
Internet of Things services, the solution collects,
integrates, and organizes sensor data from remote
equipment across global supply chains to support
real-time insight, predictive analytics, and preventive
maintenance.

Lido Stone Works, a MSP of high-end stone
installations for architectural firms worldwide,
wanted a more automated production environment
so that it could improve efficiency, as well as
remote assistance to reduce downtime.
o Boosts revenue by 70% and increases
productivity by 30% with automated,
streamlined solution
o Improves manageability and saves €400,000
(US$524,000) annually in travel costs
o Increases business volume and results in 67%
growth in workforce
o Better connectivity empowers innovation
BENEFITSSOLUTION
Lido teamed with Breton to connect Windows
Embedded-based machines on the factory floor with
back-end servers running Windows Server and a
Microsoft SQL Server database. The solution uses
ASEM remote assistance software and Windows
Azure to connect Lido’s machines and servers to
Breton’s control center.

Kaiser Permanente is the largest integrated health
care provider in the United States with 9.5 million
health plan members, 181,900 employees, 37
hospitals, and 611 medical offices. Kaiser Permanente
wanted to increase patient engagement and
convenience while enabling more efficient tools for
clinicians by using mobile technologies to provide
remote monitoring choices for patients in their
homes.
o Enhance patient care and safety through near
real-time, remote monitoring of vital signs
and automated alerts
o Expects to reduce outpatient visits for routine
checks and reporting of vital signs
o Provide better insight into patient data,
improving the efficiency and workflow for
nurses, dieticians, and other staff
Working with Cognizant, a leading provider of IT
solutions, Kaiser Permanente is testing a remote
patient monitoring system based on Microsoft Azure
Internet of Things services. The solution securely
connects to smart phones and devices such as blood
pressure and glucose meters in patients’ homes, and
integrates the data with a program prescribed by a
Kaiser Permanente clinician.

The US convenience store industry has 151,000
stores and posted $696 billion in sales in 2013. Kwik
Chek is a service-oriented family of convenience
stores with 43 locations in Texas. The company
wanted to transform its business and take customer
service to the next level by replacing conventional,
manual point-of-service (POS) processes with
cashless mobile payment for consumers and a
hosted, cloud-based, device independent POS
solution in the stores.
o Increases customer loyalty with improved
convenience and personalized service with
digital offers
o Operational efficiencies transform business
operations quickly and affordably, connecting
stores with the mobile commerce platform
within four hours
o Cuts customer time at fuel pumps by up to 40%
and improves safety with cashless payment
Kwik Chek turned to P97 Networks to build a solution
based on Microsoft Azure IoT services and Dynamics
AX that connects POS apps running in stores and on
mobile phones with the cloud and existing
infrastructure such as fuel pumps and ERP systems.
Customers can use phones to locate stores, pay
securely, and receive reward points and targeted
digital offers. Kwik Chek leverages the cloud-based
POS system for quick, reliable transactions and
advanced analytics.

Leading global manufacturer ThyssenKrupp Elevator
maintains more than 1.1 million elevators worldwide,
including those at some of the world’s most iconic
buildings. ThyssenKrupp wanted to better compete in their
industry by offering dramatically increased uptime, taking
preventative maintenance a step further to predictive and
even pre-emptive service.
o Increases reliability through predictive
maintenance and rapid, remote diagnostic
capabilities
o Reduces costs for ThyssenKrupp and their
customers
o Rich, real-time data visualization
o Data continually feeds into dynamic
predictive models
o Two-way flow of data enables diagnostics
mode and remote elevator commands
ThyssenKrupp teamed up with Microsoft and CGI to create
a connected asset monitoring system based on Microsoft
Azure IoT services including Azure Machine Learning and
Power BI for Office 365. The solution connects thousands of
sensors and systems in its elevators to the cloud and draws
this data into a dashboard available on PCs and mobile
devices for a real-time view of key performance indicators.
