Mount Cook Aoraki, located in New Zealand's South Island, is the highest mountain in the country. It became a national park in 1953 and covers harsh ice and rock terrain across 27km. The park is recognized as one of the world's premier mountaineering destinations and contains over 300 unique plant species and habitat for 40 bird species, despite being largely devoid of forest.

3. The park is 27km long and up to 3km wide. The first attempt to climb mount cook aoraki was made in 1882 by an Irish man. Today the park is recognised as one of the finest mountaineering areas in the world for both experienced and non experienced.
4. There is virtually no forest in the park , instead the park is alive with the most wonderful plants. In the park there is over 300 different plants. About 40 different species of birds are found in this park. The park is full of large dragonflies ,grasshoppers, distintine,moths and butterflies.
