The student took photos for a school assignment on various topics around the school grounds using a Nikon camera and macro lens. They found it difficult to focus without a tripod. The strengths of the photos were capturing the targeted topics and using a variety of topics, but weaknesses included not using a tripod and not capturing all planned topics due to limited locations. The student was happy with how the photos turned out but would use a tripod and explore off-campus locations next time to improve landscape shots.

My evaluation
1. My Evaluation
Step By Step
I got the ideas from multiple photographers from the research I had done in lesson time. The photos
that I took, I tried to make as similar as possible because the photos I saw on the internet when
doing my research really inspired me. Tasks we had to include searching for specific artists and their
specific photos or looking through websites and deciding which images stood out to us and explain
why they made us feel they stood out.
I took all of my photos on school grounds mainly because there was everything I needed around the
site.
I chose a mixture of topics mainly because I saw so many photos and I couldn’t decide on which
topic I liked the most. Also I felt if there were a variety of topics it would be a lot more interesting
rather than one topic. Another reason I used multiple topics is because I felt that it would allow me
to go into much more detail.
To be able to take my photos I used a Nikon 1100 and a macro lens but only for the ones it was hard
to get close enough to. I also used the monochrome setting on the camera this is the setting that
allows you to be able to take a black and white photo. Whilst taking the photos I found it hard to
focus because I didn’t use a tripod which caused it to be difficult when trying to steady the camera
and focus. If I had used a tripod I wouldn’t have faced these problems.
I chose not to edit any of my photos because I felt there wasn’t anything I wanted to change about
them. The only editing I had done was already available on the camera for example the
monochrome setting.
Whilst taking my photos I learnt about the monochrome tool, this allows you to take a photo in black
and white
These are my final photos…
2. Evaluation
I feel that the strengths of my work are: I was able to get the photos to suit my targeted topics, I
completed the task in the given time, my photographs came out well, I used a different variety of
topics which made everything a lot more interestin, and I didn’t consistanlty use more than one
colour for the images.
I feel the weaknesses to my work are: not using tripod, this made it hard for me to take my photo
straight away and made me take the photo multiple times just to be able to get it right, I didn’t use
all of the topics that were available, because I couldn’t find anywhere else to take a landscape image
I had to take two photos of the school fields but at diffferent angles however if I had taken the
camera out of school I would have been able to find areas that would be different and unique. A
further weakness would be that I didn’t stick to my plan, I feel that if I stuck to my plan my work
would have been a lot more interesting.
I am happy with the final outcome of my photos, I feel I got my photos to be as similar as possible
and they reflect on the images I saw whilst doing my research tasks.
My photos have turned out to how I wanted them to be but I didn’t stick to my plan mainly because
during my time of taking the photos I came across problems such as not being able to find items that
were in my plan.
As a photographer I have learnt of new topics when taking a photo and in future I would be able to
take photos that are far more interesting. I have also learnt new settings on the camera which
enables me to change the brightness of the monochrome setting so I will be able to have either an
extremely bright black and white image or an extremely dull black and white image.
If I did this porject again I would make sure I used a tripod so I was able to keep my camera steady
and it would help improve my images. Another thing I would do diffferently would be I would take
the camera out of school so it could improve my landscape images to be in different areas rather
than both at school or I would not take the images on the school field I would take them in
completely different places.
