INTRODUCTION TO PRODUCT DESIGN.
✕ Product design is the process of creating a new
product to be sold by a business to its customers.
✕ It is an efficient and effective generation and
development of ideas through a process that leads to
new products.
✕ Product designers conceptualize and evaluate ideas,
turning them into tangible inventions and products.
✕ The product designer's role is to combine art, science,
and technology to create new products that other
people can use.
✕ Every organization has to design develop and
introduce new products in order to survive in the
market.
OBJECTIVE OR NEED OF DESIGN..
✕To be in business for a long time.
✕To satisfy unfulfilled needs of the customers.
✕The company’s existing product line becomes
saturated and the sales is on the decline.
✕To enter into new prospective businesses.
✕Too much competition in the existing product line.
✕The profit margin is on the decline.

PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE (PLC)..
✕ Product life cycle is a business analysis that attempts to
identify a set of common stages in the life of commercial
products.
✕ In other words the 'Product Life cycle' PLC is used to map
the lifespan of the product.
✕ The stages through which a product goes during its lifespan
for example., Introduction, Promotion, Growth, Maturity
and Decline.
✕ The stages of a product's life cycle can be classified as
follows:
✕ Low and slow stage: The product sales are the lowest and
move up very slowly at snail's pace
✕ Highest promotional Stage: During this period of
introduction or the development ,promotional expenses
bear the highest proportion of sales
✕ Highest Product prices: Lower input and sales absorbing
VARIOUS PHASES OF PRODUCT..
✕ Growth.
✕ Growth comes with the acceptance of the innovation in
the market and profit starts to flow.
✕ Maturity ( Saturation ).
✕ In the maturity stage, the end of stage of the growth
rate and sales slowdown as the product has already
achieved acceptance in the market. New firms start
experimenting in order to compete by innovating new
models of the product
✕ Decline.
✕ The decline stage is where most of the product class
usually dies due to low growth rate in sales.

PRODUCT POLICY OF AN ORGANIZATION
✕Every organization has its own product policies which
form the basis of competing the market.
✕ The various policies are :
1. Highest quality.
2. Compromise between cost and quality.
3. Safety.
4. lowest price.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT:
✕ new product development (NPD) is the complete
process of bringing a new product to market.
✕ There are two parallel paths involved in the NPD
process:
1. One involves the idea generation, product design and
detail engineering.
2. The other involves market research and marketing.
STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT IN PROCESS..
