1) New York City is the most populated city in the world with many different nationalities and cultures coexisting. English is the main language and people are usually busy but friendly. 2) The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous landmarks globally. Standing 93 meters tall in New York Harbor, it became a symbol of liberty for millions of immigrants arriving in the US by ship. 3) Constructed over 15 years, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France for America's 100th anniversary. It was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and constructed of copper in sections in Paris before being shipped and assembled on its pedestal in New York Harbor.

THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
The Statue of Liberty is one famous landmarks in the world. The enormous statue is 93 metres high and stands in New Yourk harbour. For the milions of immigrants to the USA who saw it as they sailed into New Yourk for the first time, it became a symbol of liberty.
The Statue of Liberty was built for the hundredth anniversary of American independence from Britain. It was given to the American people by the French as a token of friendship. It was designed by French sculptor, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, and took fifteen years to build. Money for it were raised through lotteries and dinner parties. THE STORY OF THE STATUE
The statue was made from 32.5 tonnes of copper. It was constructed in sections in Paris. Then it was put into 210 boxes and was taken across the Atlantic by ship. In New Yourk harbour the sections was assembled on a huge pendestal. Today visitors to the statue are carried by a glass lift to the top of the pendestal where they can see the inner structure of the statue above them. From that point there are 171 steps to a viewing gallery in the crown.
