OKRs
Goal Setting
Goal Setting isn’t new
It’s common and standard, that everyone who wants to deliver a value
once, thinks about, which goals he/she should achieve.
https://www.goal-setting-guide.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/goal-setting-techniques.jpg
But how to do it – that’s totally different than
we, you, i did it in the past century..
History about OKR
In the early 1980s, S.M.A.R.T. goals and Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs) became popular methods for organizations to
set objectives.
Then in 1999, John Doerr introduced Objectives – Key Results
(OKRs) to Google, a model he first learned about at Intel, and
revolutionised goal setting.
Today, OKRs are a de facto standard for aligning company and
individual goals.
Why OKR?
OBJECTIVES EMPOWER COLLABORATION AND CROSS-FUNCTIONALITY
Because they are visible to everyone—top-down, bottom-up and cross-
functionally—OKRs ensure everyone is working toward the same result
Because strategy can only capture a company’s best thinking at a given point in
time, strategy needs to be refined and improved as people gain and distribute
new experience and knowledge.
Given this reality, sound strategy
development processes should enable a
company to create and adapt strategy
quickly and iteratively… and allocate
resources in changing environments.

OKR objectives
CRITERIAs
Objectives reflects outcomes that are
Challenging, but realistic.
A clear subject, object which shows a
Journey with a purpose
«what is my focus»
The aim of OKRs is to have a bigger impact by splitting
time on fewer things and focusing on results, not tasks.
OKR Key Results
CRITERIAs
Key results are measurable over
numeric values. They are like KPIs
to focus and create over that a series
of tasks to achieve them.
«how do I know if I achieved
our outcome»
Every OKR should reflect realistic priorities achievable in
a time-cycle that are still challenging.
OKR Examples
Strategic company goal for 2020

OKR Rules
less is more
Every OKR reflects realistic priorities achievable in a time-
cycle that are still challenging
Key Results are created by the teams & negotiated/
challenged with management
OKRs are transparent in the organisation
How Did John Doerr Explain OKRs
OKR Examples
Objective: Customers consistently find our product useful
KeyResult1: 80% of new customers continue their subscription after 2 months
KeyResult2: 50% of users return within 2 weeks
KeyResult3: Lost subscribers are less than 2% this period
OKR Examples
Grading
Transparent self-evaluation and grading (0.0 - 1.0)
NOT linked to employee evaluation or bonuses
Aim for ~ 0.7
Constantly scoring a 1.0 means that the OKRs are not
challenging enough.
