My life’s work has been, is, and will
be to help every independent school
deliver the best possible educational
experience to every student based on
        the full expression of
          its mission.

3

How I make this
             happen
• I think and write about issues ranging from
innovation in curriculum and assessment to
  professional development to school culture,
  management, and marketing
• I speak to school leaders and faculties at
  national conferences and school workshops
• I advise and troubleshoot for schools seeking
to develop and implement optimal practices in
  curriculum and professional development

4

The walk I’ve walked
• Over 38 happy years in four different
  independent schools—as a teacher,
  coach, advisor, college counselor,
  department chair, and administrative
  team member
• Born and raised in an independent
  school; educated at one, too
• Degrees from Yale (American Studies,
magna cum laude) and Brown (English)

5

My passions
       (besides making schools better)
• Writing, reading, and game-changing ideas
• Maritime life, landscapes, and traditions (check
out The Watery Realm, published by WoodenBoat, a series of
meditations on the educative power of bodies of water)

• Technology and its power as a tool for
  education and communication
• Anything that makes me smile—the look of
learning on someone’s face (including my
own), a clever film, a moving song
