The document summarizes the main parts and functions of plants. It describes how roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil and anchor the plant. Stems transport water and minerals between roots and leaves, provide structure, and in young plants can photosynthesize. Leaves perform photosynthesis to produce food, exchange gases, and release water through transpiration. Flowers have four main parts - calyx, corolla, androecium, and gynoecium - which are involved in reproduction.
3. Root
Functions of the root
• Roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil and transport them upwards, to all
other parts of the plant. They bear numerous root hairs that help in absorption.
• Roots anchor the plants firmly into the soil.
• Roots may also act as organs for food storage in some plants.

4. Stem
Functions of the stem
Stem, leaves flowers, and fruits are the different parts of the shoot system.
Here are some function of the stem.
• The stem provides an anchor to the branches, leaves, buds, flowers, and fruits of a plant.
• The stem orients the leaves present on it nodes in a manner such that they are exposed to
maximum sunlight.
• The stem transports water and minerals from the roots to the leaves. It also conducts food from
the leaves to all other parts of the plant.
• The green stems of the young plants carry out photosynthesis to produce food.

5. Leaf
Functions of leaves.
• Leaves prepare food for the plant by the process of photosynthesis.
• Leaves are that part of plant were exchange of gases occurs during respiration and
photosynthesis.
• Leaves also release water in the form of water vapour into the atmosphere through a process
known as transpiration.
6. FLOWER
Parts of a Flower
• Calyx: It is the outermost whorl of a flower consisting of a collection of sepals.
• Corolla: It is the second whorl of a flower. It consists of a ring of petals.
• Androecium: It is the male reproductive part of the flower. It consists of a collection of
stamens. Each stamens has a long slender filament with an anther at its tip.
• Gynoecium: It is the female reproductive part of the flower. It is centrally located and
consists of units called carpels or pistils.
