1. Challenges in the Instructional Delivery and Their
Effects on Pupils’ Development of Numeracy Skills
GENELYN J. REGIO
Master Teacher I
Masaguisi Elementary School
Santa Cruz East District
2. INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE
The job of teachers becomes more complex and demanding as they cope
with abrupt changes over time.
Teaching can be one of the most demanding professions, with pressure to
produce great results, even in times of sudden changes. The quality of
teachers has the greatest impact on improving student learning outcomes.
Addressing the common teaching-learning challenges can not only help
to improve teacher job satisfaction but also enhance the success rate of
students and the ultimate quality of education.
3. INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE
Based on the results of the quarterly assessment of Grade 2
Mathematics in Santa Cruz East District, the average MPS was
72.90 for the first quarter and 75.24 for the second quarter. The
results implied that there is a gap in the performance of the
Grade 2 pupils in Mathematics, which can be associated with the
challenges faced by the teachers in the instructional delivery.
4. INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE
Despite the learning interventions and programs to improve the
performance of the pupils in Mathematics, challenges are still
evident based on the results of the quarterly assessment.
If teachers are being held solely accountable for student
performance, they may wrestle with how to connect with students
effectively and facilitate meeting learning objectives.
5. INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE
The researcher believes that the teachers need strong and consistent
support to practice their main duties and responsibilities efficiently.
Equally, teachers must also have dedication and commitment to make a
difference with their pupils.
The researcher has the genuine desire to explore and determine the
challenges experienced by the Grade 2 teachers in Santa Cruz East
District with the hope of alleviating the existing challenges.
7. II. RESEARCH QUESTIONS
This study aims to determine the challenges in the teaching
and learning processes of the Grade 2 teachers in Santa Cruz
East District. To help the researcher come up with an
appropriate recommendation and intervention, the following
questions will be addressed:
8. 1. What is the level of difficulty of the Grade 2
teachers in the instructional delivery of Mathematics
when it comes to:
1.1 functional daily lesson plans preparation
1.2 workload
1.3 diversity of learners
1.4 teaching strategies
1.5 learning materials
1.6 classroom management
9. 2. What is the average MPS in Mathematics of the Grade
2 pupils in the quarterly assessment for SY 2022-2023?
3. What is the impact of the most common challenges
encountered by the Grade 2 teachers on the average MPS
of the Grade 2 pupils in the quarterly assessment of
Mathematics for school year 2022-2023?
10. 4. What were the enhancement programs and activities
given to the Grade 2 teachers to address the challenges?
11. IV. SCOPE AND LIMITATION
This study will focus on the following aspects of teachers' challenges in the teaching
and learning process: functional daily lesson log preparations, workload, diversity
of learners, and teaching strategies. The study's target participants are the 19 Grade
2 teachers in the Santa Cruz East District. It will also look into evaluating the
mathematical ability of Grade 2 students in Santa Cruz East District's 19 schools
based on quarterly assessments and the least mastered skills. The findings in the
study will serve as the basis for a recommendation or intervention for teachers and
pupils to improve the teaching and learning process.
12. V. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
a. Sampling
This study will use purposive sampling. The 19 Grade 2
teachers in Santa Cruz East District will be the participants of
the study.
13. b. Data Collection
The descriptive-survey method will be used in this study, in order
to discover teacher's challenges .
Data for the study will be collected using an online form. Online forms
are more cost and time efficient than traditional paper forms, facilitating
data collection and analysis. Furthermore, because they have no effect on
research results, online forms are considered equivalent to paper forms.
14. A researcher-made interview guide checklist will be used in
gathering data from the participants. The interview aims to provide
comprehensive details on the challenges and concerns of teachers in
teaching and learning process in Mathematics.
The researcher will document the responses on challenges
encountered in teaching and learning process. These will be analysed
and carefully interpreted.
15. c. Ethical Issues
Several precautions will be taken for the participants'
privacy and confidentiality in this study. These concerns
will be identified ahead of time to avoid future disputes
during the research process. Among the significant
concerns are confidentiality, consent, anonymity of the
subjects, and data protection.
16. d. Plan for Data Analysis
Descriptive statistics will be utilized to represent the data
gathered from the respondents. This will be done with the
use of bar graph and table that will visualize the responses
from the conducted survey based on the research questions.

After a comprehensive examination and approval, the results
of the study will be used in the Santa Cruz East District to
achieve its goals. The researcher has a genuine desire to lessen
the burden and somehow solve issues and challenges
encountered by the teachers in the teaching and learning process.
Issues and concerns will be given emphasis for appropriate
recommendation or intervention.
