LAYOUT OF POSITION ON
MAGZINE: ALTHOUGH THE

AREAS THEY HAVE PLACED THE

THE OTHERS AND STILL HAS A LOT
OF CLEAR SPACE THAT THEY
COULD HAVE FILLED WITH OTHER
INFORMATION OR OTHER
SOURCES.THE COLOUR SCHEME IS
ALSO IN LINK WITH THE OTHER.
HEADLINE: THIS IS A SELLING
POINT FOR THE MAGAZINE AS IT
IS INTRIGUING,SHOCKING AND

AUDIENCE/READERS. IT IS
UNUSUAL FOR A PREGNANT
THEREFORE IT WILL APPEAL TO
SOME PEOPLE.
MAGAZINE #2
 Masthead is called ‘Parent and School’
which may appeal to both parents and
students to read The image on the front
cover is not really central, but shows a
focused young student with unfocused
teachers in the back Red Bold Writing with
a different font compared to the fonts on
the front cover Selling Line “The Science
on Energy Smart Schools” not a real catchy
selling line but quite simple and more less
obvious Different features that are inside
the magazine Main School logo or the
School Magazine logo School
MAGAZINE #3
 #3
Masthead is in really big bold writing taking up a
quarter of the front cover Dateline gives the date
of what date or month the magazine was made
Main cover line Since it’s a school magazine, it’s
helping pupil who are going to through
examinations for their GCSE on how to feel less
stressed Feature promoting a prize win of £100
Worth Of Revision Selling line ‘Aim high and
believe you can” its quite catchy since it links to
the masthead Cover line This cover line in ‘Fly’
gives students advice on how to change up their
school uniform Pug tells reader that the
magazine is free and un payable
MAGAZINE #4
 _The ‘KIDS’ title being the masthead. It’s very big
and bright and stands out than the rest of the
front cover also it shows that it appeals to kids
This a medium close-up shot of a young girl you
slightly grinning. In stores, some girls may see her
and think it may appeal to them due to her being
on the cover Main cover line with Over-
exaggeration on the word “exclusive” because it
may only be a child being interviewed and not a
major celebrity Other featured cover lines in the
magazine issue The wizard of oz portrayal
background, almost making it look like the model
is in a playful garden Telling the audience that it’s
the first ever premier issue of the magazine
MAGAZINE #5
 _The name of the school is very clear on
this magazine as it is the masthead. The
information flashes on the cover of this
magazine all use different fonts which
make the magazine cover look slightly
unprofessional. The school logo is located
in the top right corner just below the
masthead but as there is a fading effect at
the top of the background image/below
the masthead, the logo isn't clear to see.
They have stuck to a house style of colours
using the same red for
shapes/backgrounds & the same blue for
the text.
AS Media Studies Preliminary Task – School Magazine Front Page Proposal Form
Target audience:
(age range, interests)
Although it is a school newsletter you still have to think about your audience and how to
appeal to them.
My form of registry would be formal as this magazine would ideally allocate target audience such as adolescent teenagers
of around 15-19 and would mainly target their parents as to what's going on in there school as news.
Possible title ideas:
(masthead / title block)
What is your magazine going to be called?
My magazines name would be called “THE TITAN” as it has a symbolic meaning to it as it shows dominant figure to my
magazine since the theme will present an old yet vintage style to show how sophisticated my magazine would be presented
and the title suggests that its going to be formal and have a sense of exquisite .
Main image:
What will be the focal point of your front page, remember, your work “must include a
photograph of a student in a medium close-up”
Close up shot of the student
Main cover line:
What will be the main story? My main story will be mainly around the talent we got in our school and the
academic targets or achievements this school can.
Additional key images:
What other images will be on your front cover?
Remember, it is a school magazine.
Students celebrating their achievements
Additional cover lines:
Other features, stories or selling points which will be inside the magazine, these need to
be audience appropriate.
It will be the types of exam boards coming soon
Typography:
(style, size, colour of copy)
Think about the writing and the style of the writing on your front page.
Size 11 for general text and 40 for masthead ,including size 18 for main stories.
Background colour/image:
What will be in the background, remember you don’t want to take the focus away from
the main image.
Background was vintage (filter) implementing the respect and class towards
parents.
Technical considerations:
(equipment, setting, props, costume, lighting)
Be realistic and creative, think about what you have access to and how you could use it.
Props included: glasses, computer and the lighting to show a clearer side of what
the person is thinking.
BD UNION DRAWING
Beside me is a sketch
what the front cover
of my newsletter will
look like probably.
Notes on the process
 Below are three images of which are a close-up that I
photographed for the use of my front cover for the school
magazine. I chose to use the first one from the left because he is
more serious, making for a better front cover as he makes the
school term as if it’s a serious matter and matured environment
and therefore the best selection for the front cover. I also used the
image of Tyrese and Jules, bottom right hand corner, faded with
filter in my contents page because he also looks independent and
it shows that the school is a respectable place to be from more
than ones perspective.
A brief
For this task I had to create a front cover and a contents page for a school
magazine. The front cover had to include a medium shot of a student of
which I, myself had to take. I had to make this school magazine as a practice
for the music magazine, as well as allowing me to understand what works well
and what doesn’t on a magazine. This also ensures that I now have a better
understanding of what I need to include in a magazine in order to be effective
for my target audience.
What have I learnt ?
From making this magazine, I have learnt how to use Adobe Photoshop in order
to change an image. I have also learnt how to make a magazine using only the
features of Adobe Photoshop. Also, from making the school magazine front
cover and contents page I have learnt how to effectively layout a magazine and
how to make the magazine suitable for a target audience. I have also learnt
what works well on a magazine and what doesn’t, for example for a front cover
a medium shot looks good, however a long shot would not look as good on the
front cover .Also, through conducting the research for this school magazine I
know how to target a niche market in order to find out their interests, dislikes
hobbies and personal requirements when buying a specific magazine. I have
also learned how to successfully manipulate Photoshop and PicMonkey in order
to create and edit new images and texts.
