The no. of tourists visiting India to soar
to 10 million by the year 2010 from 5
million in 2007-08.
Recent estimates show that India has a
shortage of 150,000 rooms, fuelling hotel
room rates across the country.
About 60,000 quality rooms are across the country in different stages of planning
and development; most of these hotel should be ready by 2010. looking at this
potential in hotel business, international giants are flocking India & forging joint
ventures to earn there share in race.
Government of India has approved 300 hotel projects nearly half of which are in
luxury range. Demand supply scenario suggest that hotel industry has great
potential for investment.

1. entry/exits~
the entry to the site should be sophisticated, well maintained and having welcoming
effect.
minimum width of the entrance should be proper enough to accommodate 2 e class 70
vehicles at a time.
so the ideal width of the entrance is 5m to 6m.
a security pit should have been installed with all the proper security instruments. Having
the dimension 3m X 3m.
the entrance should be well connected to the porch, open / basement as well as multi level
parking if applicable.
all entrance points should have car scanners installed at every entry / exit points.
entry & exit points to the site should be same with one emergency entry (width 4m) and
one service entry (width 8m)
emergency entry should be mechanical as well as manual override in case of emergency.
service entries are very critical as far as security is concerned so 2 or more checking pits (
2m X 2m) with highly trained staff is required.

according to NBC-2005 the hotel comes in commercial category with special sub group
residential commercial.
parking norms for this has been decided by the occupancy as an average of commercial
residential
Parking norms~ 1 Car per 4 guest rooms (NBC part 3 appendix B)
this can be further classified in to
~open parking, tourist bus parking ( at least 2)
~basement parking
~multi level parking
~service parking (2 trucks)
the parking for at most 30 cars in open is for visitors, shoppers
reserved parking for 50 cars should be either open or underground
apart from parking for 15 hotel cars is reserved for delegates and tourist who could order
& serve accordingly
in underground or multi level parking there should be provision of a lift to be accessible
for physically challenged persons

Air-conditioning/ heating depends on climatic conditions & architecture.
Room temp should be between 20 & 28 Degrees C. For 4*, 5* and 5*
Deluxe .(the % is of the total no. of rooms).
A clean change of bed and bath linen daily & between check-ins
Hotels may have a guest triggered system. For 1* & 2* on alternate
days. Definitely required between each check-in.
