What is a project ?
And a project is unique in that it is not a routine
operation, but a specific set of operations
designed to accomplish a singular goal.
A project is a temporary organization that is created
for the purpose of delivering one or more business
products according to an agreed Business Case.
What are the characteristics?
• Change
• Temporary
• Unique
• Multi-Functional
• Uncertainty/Unknown
Characteristic: Change
• Change is an inevitable part of a project, so working out in advance how best
to handle change requests will make the whole process much easier....
• Change management is the practice of tracking and administering changes
during the development of a product or service and is a key part of project.
Characteristic: Temporary
• A project is temporary in that it must have a beginning
and end date, and therefore defined scope and
resources.
• A temporary organization or business group that is
created for the purpose of delivering one or more specific
business products ...
Characteristic : Unique
• Each project is Unique in nature based on the product or enhancement
that is required.
• If we consider what are we delivery or enhancing will determine the need
for the project.
Characteristic: Multi-Functional
Multi-functional are a group of members/teams from various departments or functional areas
working together to ensure that the project is delivered within the project guidelines...
Characteristic: Uncertainty/Unknown
• Each project has its own share of risks which leads us to the
uncertainty/unknown in each project
• One way to minimise this is too look at risks at the beginning of the
project.
Why do we need a Project Manager ?
The Project Manager has to understanding the purpose of the project as an investment and make sure that what the
project delivers is consistent with what have been agreed in the scope to achieve the desired outcome within
tolerances…
