This research proposal explores the constructed landscape around the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The researchers aim to understand how the landscape relates to its surrounding context and how users interact with it. They will analyze the landscape's relationship with surrounding elements and observe user interactions. Comparing the area with and without the constructed landscape, the researchers seek to understand the advantages and disadvantages of such landscapes in city centers. Ultimately, they hope to gain insight into how the landscape creates links between the built and natural environments.

ABSTRACT
“One city can look at other cities relative to their city and learn something. It’s a matter of
sharing the patterns of what exists in one society based on landscape or cultural values
versus other cities”, said Jack Dangermond. This research assignment is proposed to
enhance our understanding on the constructed landscape of our local landmark, famously
known as the Petronas Twin Tower, which is located in the heart of the city of Kuala Lumpur.
Based on the understanding of the term “constructed landscape”, it happens to be a channel
in creating and evolving relationship with the users of the environment we are in. It defines
as the rapport between the landscape and nature.
We proposed on the exploration of analyzing the relationship of the surrounding elements
and user interactions with the constructed landscape at our selected site. With the site
analysis and information gathered, we are to create a before-and-after comparison, in order
to investigate the pros and cons of having a construction landscape placed at a city center.
Other than exploring the advantages and disadvantages results of having a constructed
landscape in a city center, we will also developed the idea of doing researches on the

reasons they constructed the landscape, which may open up doors for us to understand
more on the term “constructed landscape”, whether the results we see they have created
actually act as the approach of the link between the landscape and nature.
OBJECTIVES
Like every explorers,
4 We intend to do researches and study activities on the topic constructed landscape
before going to KLCC.
4 After that, we will be doing some sightseeing and observations at the site to analyze the
relationship of the people with the built environment.
4 Bringing back the information we have gathered, we will be presenting the reason of the
urban designers in creating this built environment in such a busy city, using self-directed
and analytic skills.
SIGNIFICANCE
1. We want to understand the harmony between the constructed landscape with the nature
surrounding it.
2. People appears around these areas, where we are interested in knowing what attracted
the users in coming to the area. There might be reasons of aesthetic that drew the
attention of the users to visit the constructed landscape.
3. We assume that the gain of population in the constructed landscape is because of the
ambience and atmosphere of the constructed landscape, where we find there are a lot
of people doing their activities there, such as having picnics and sightseeing.
4. We will be dividing the jobs among each other as we demonstrate the understanding of
cultural and historical attributes that are also the key to the significance of the
constructed landscape itself. We would like to understand the balance between the
vernacular buildings of the surrounding with its constructed landscape whether the
landscape serves as a compliment to the buildings or if it is the other way around.
5. We would also like to investigate if there are any transformation in the constructed
landscape, where the architects and urban planners bring in nature to the heart of a

busy city.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Diagram 1 : Research Methodology
The above diagrams shows the planning that we will proceed throughout this research. We
will be gathering information through research from the internet resources book references.
We plan to interview to local and foreign users around the constructed landscape about the
knowledge they have upon the landscape and share their thoughts about the place while
they are using it themselves. To do an interview, we will be preparing a person to become
the interview and another as the videographer to film a timelapse video to show the
interaction of the users with the constructed landscape. Besides that, a photographer is
needed to take photos of the place and the users, showing the relationship of the users and
the landscape, and also with the nature. Instead of photography, we are also doing on site
sketches to enhance our understanding of the connection between landscape and nature
that we observed on the site. In the end, we will compile the sketches we had in a
sketchbook and the photography taken will be used to create a photobook. We acknowledge
these methods used will help us in completing this assignment.
