The target audience for the media product, a music magazine, is young adult males based on market research showing males listen to and follow music news more. While primarily aimed at young adult males, some elements like color scheme are intended to also appeal to young adult females. Feedback from a focus group showed the magazine appeals to both audiences interested in informal content as well as those preferring a more professional layout and design.

Question 4 media evaluation
1. Josh Robinson – Media Evaluation
Question 4 –Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my music magazine would be young adult males; I chose this group of people
because of my market research. After evaluating my questionnaire results I discovered that the
majority of people who listen to music or want to keep updated with music news are male. This
information allowed me to choose the genre of my magazine making it the most effective that it can
be. Almost all of the aspects of my magazine aim towards a male audience, but there are
something’s that appeal to a female audience as well, such as the colour scheme, red, black and
white. So I have tried to make my magazine aim towards the male audience, but I have also made it
appeal slightly to the secondary audience of young adult females to increase the popularity of the
magazine. A lot of the responses from my focus group were a mixture between, comments about
the layout of the magazine, to jokes about the content. This goes well with the theme of my
magazine, as it contains a mixture of informal and formal content, thus appealing to my audience.
For example when Jordan Thompson says ‘Looks smart this Josh, But you could have chosen a fitter
model though.’ This proves that my general target audience don’t care about the professionalism of
the content; they focus more on whom or what is inside the magazine. But there are some young
adults who care about professionalism, for example Thomas Giblin, Christian Owens and Ryan
Denner, all commented on the how professional all of my work looks, and how there’s a ‘good use of
the colour scheme’ and ‘the red contrasts quite nicely.’ So with my magazine I have tried to appeal
to all of the audiences, by making the text not as articulate, but at the same time making the overall
layout look professional.
