RECRUITMENT 
Meaning: 
In simple terms Recruitment is understood 
as a process for searching and obtaining applicants for 
jobs, from among the available recruits. 
Definition: 
“Recruitment involves attracting and obtaining 
as many applications as possible from eligible job 
seekers”.
PURPOSE & IMPORTANCE 
 Determine the present and future of the firm. 
 Increase the pool of candidates at minimum cost. 
Helps in reducing the no. of visibly under qualified or 
overqualified job applicants. 
 Meets the Org legal and social obligations regarding 
the composition of its workforce. 
Increase Org and individual effectiveness in the 
short term and long term.
Evaluate the effectiveness of various recruiting techniques 
and sources for all types of job applicants. 
 Attract highly qualified and competent people. 
 Ensure that the selected candidates stay longer with the 
company. 
Match between cost and benefit.
