The DepEd is undertaking a school mapping project to create a comprehensive database of school locations through crowdsourcing. The project will map public schools to enable various stakeholders to locate schools. It will use a phased approach, starting with DepEd employees then a public call. Users will upload GPS-tagged photos of schools through a website, which will process and publish the locations online within 2-3 days once verified. The project is currently in beta testing and will soon be announced to ICT coordinators.

Strategy  Use crowdsourcing using a phased approach:  Phase 1: DepED employees  Phase 2: Public call  What is crowdsourcing?  A means of obtaining data, services, ideas by soliciting contributions from a large group of people and especially from the online community rather than from traditional employees or suppliers
Approach  Upload photos taken from GPS-capable mobile phones.  Photos will be collected through a website and processed for verification  URL is http://mapcentral.ph/CI/deped_geotag/  Once verified (2-3 days max), the school’s location will appear online

Uploaded photo reads the geo- tagging data
Use Guidelines  Register your DepED email address  Email verification  Upload photos that are no more than 1- MB in size  Photos of school façade  Inappropriate photos will NOT be allowed.  Allow 2-3 days before location and photo is published
Bonus  After uploading photo, participant may upload other landmarks of interest:  Health Centers/Hospitals  Barangay Halls  Police Stations/Precincts  City/Municipal Halls
