Library Call Number: BAR Secrets Of My Suburban Life Author: Lauren Baratz-Logsted
Lauren is a sixteen year old girl. Both her parents are famous writers. Unfortunately, her mother was crushed by a stack of thick books and she passed away. Lauren’s father was too grief stricken to continue living in New York so he moved to Danbury with Lauren. Lauren had to leave the school and her friends that were in New York. Lauren tries hard to adapt to the new school in Danbury but a girl named Farrine keeps humiliating her. Although Lauren is being humiliated, she makes two new friends in Danbury.
Lauren faces many problems in Danbury. She tells her problems to her teacher, Jojo, whom she trusts. One day, Lauren accidentally takes Farrines note book and sees its content. Farrine has been communicating with an old man online, which Lauren suspects to be a pervert as he keeps sending Farrine disgusting messages. Lauren comes up with a plan to stop the pervert from targeting other young girls. Lauren,s plan was to pretend to be Farrine so she could trick the pervert by telling him that she is Farrine so that she can change the name of the account. The pervert does not believe Lauren at first, but Lauren uses tricks to convince the pervert that she is Farrine.
One day, the pervert asks Lauren to meet him up. Lauren hesitates at first but when she thinks of the pervert targeting other young girls, she agrees. The pervert tells Lauren to meet him at the hotel. Lauren tells her friends about it. Lauren’s new friends are worried about her and tell her not to go but she ignores her friends’ advice. The day comes, where Lauren has to meet the pervert. She goes into the hotel room and never expects to see her teacher, Jojo. Lauren is shocked that Jojo is the pervert.
Things go wrong and her two friends save Lauren. They tell Lauren that they hid in the room before Lauren and Jojo came as they were worried about her. Lauren’s two friends called the police beforehand and the police come in time to arrest Jojo. Lauren feels guilty for not listening to her two friends’ advice and making them worry. Lauren is upset that it is her most trusted teacher.
The book is interesting and it shows the bond of friendship and also has a bit of adventure. It also shows the difficulties the character faced. It tells us how a young girl helps the others girls from not being the pervert’s prey. The author has managed to express the feelings of the character and the way the author writes also lets us picture the scene. It has lots of descriptive words in it. Why The World Should Read This Book??
