Shania Twain Profile
2. When and how did Shania Twain’s
career begin?
• After graduating from Timmins High in June 1983, Twain was eager
to expand her musical horizons. Shania Twain was approached by a
cover band led by Diane Chase called "Flirt" and they toured all over
Ontario. Twain also began taking singing lessons from coach Ian
Garrett. Then in the autumn of 1984, Twain's talents were noticed
by DJ Stan Campbell who wrote about her in a Country Music
News article: "Eilleen possesses a powerful voice with an
impressive range. She has the necessary drive, ambition and
positive attitude to achieve her goals". Campbell happened to be
making an album by Canadian musician Tim Denis at the time and
Twain was featured on the backing vocals of the song Heavy on the
Sunshine. Campbell later took Twain to Nashville to record some
demos, which Twain found particularly difficult to finance. She
became acquainted with regional country singer Mary Bailey who
had had some country chart success in 1976. Twain then met
producer Robert "Mutt" Lange after he heard her original songs
from her debut album; he then offered to produce and write songs
with her.
3. Who creates her outfits and tour
concepts?
• Marc Bouwer is Shania Twain’s clothing designer. Their professional
relationship dates back fifteen years when they were introduced by
a stylist at the VH1 Divas show when Shania Twain was wearing
some of Bouwer's designs. Following that, she approached him to
design an eastern-inspired clingy gold dress, with hood and train,
for her newest music video at the time. He agreed and from then
on he has been designing and making her clothing specially to her
desires.
• A group of people are involved with creating her tour concepts. This
includes AEG Live (a production company) and it is directed by Raj
Kapoor, the show also features creative expertise from Production
Designer Michael Cotten, Costumier Marc Bouwer and Lighting
Designer Peter Morse.
4. How is this funded?
• This is all funded by the tickets that Shania
sells for her tours and concerts as well as from
the merchandise she sells. She also receives
money from her management team for every
song/album she sells that will then be used as
funding towards her plans and ideas.
5. Research and describe her fan base
• Shania Twain has a varying fan base. Her fans are both old and
young, male and female. Shania helps underprivileged children to
reach their potential, meaning that she is respected by many
underprivileged people because of her work with children.
• Shania Kids Can is a program designed for kids at primary school
level who are having personal problems at home. As a result these
children often have difficulties functioning at their full potential in
the school environment either socially, behaviourally, academically
or all three. Children with personal life challenges might come to
school with low self-esteem, depressed, tired or hungry - not ideal
for taking in the joy of learning, the security of community and the
pleasure of friendship. This means that Shania also has a large fan
base of the younger generation as she is seen as a role model.
7. Famous quotes
• “It’s important to give it all you have while you have the chance.”
• “Life unravels the way it does, and it has an effect on you, but you
have to take responsibility for dealing with it.”
• “When everything goes without a hitch, where's the challenge, the
opportunity to find out what you're made of?”
• “Even when life hits you like a Mack truck that's come out of
nowhere, there is still a chance that you will survive, and although
the road to recover may be slow, long, and even permanent, this
doesn't mean you can't enjoy the rest of your life and be happy
again.”
• "Country music is still your grandpa's music, but it's also your
daughter's music. It's getting bigger and better all the time and I'm
glad to be a part of it."
8. What sorts of views does Shania Twain
have about the world? How do fans
respond to this?
• “I’m not the politician, and I just completely remove myself from
that. I don’t have anything against or for any particular person or
point of view on politics. I have my own opinions, but my songs
don’t share them.” Shania Twain
• However, Hillary Clinton and Al Gore both used her song, “Rock This
Country!” during their campaigns. This means that she doest have a
specific political fan base as she is accepting of all politicians ideas
and beliefs.
• Shania Twain hasn’t come out for or against hot political issues like
gay marriage, but she did stand up for PETA (People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals) as she is a vegetarian and is very caring for

cruelty and animal testing as many of her fan base is.
