Summary Of Zora Neale Hurston
Ebonee Laws
African American Literature
K. Sanders: MWF 9:00
Zora Neale Hurston
Zora Neale Hurston was born on January 7, 1891 in Alabama. She is known to be one of the most
influential novelist of the twentieth century in African America literature. Hurston is described to
be a very opinionated woman that stood for what she believed in; which reflected in some of her
works. In addition to her many titles such as, being an anthropologist and short story writer, she
was closely related and heavily focused on the Harlem Renaissance. Zora Neale Hurston and her
political opinions placed her at odds with important figures during that time which I wholeheartedly
believe played a part in the undeniable attraction that most people have towards her works. Being
that Hurston was such a unique writer, to understand the ethics and themes of her and how she
contributed to African American literature comes with an understanding of the background and
childhood she had.
In some of Hurston s works she acknowledges Eatonville, which was the first all black community
in America that she moved to when she was only three years old (Kimmons, 3). Hurston viewed
Eatonville as a place where blacks could ultimately be themselves without having to conform to the
norms of a white society (Kimmons, 1). Hurston was protected from the realisms of judgement and
disgust towards African Americans; since Eatonville was described to be somewhat safe from
lynchings and other violence related to racism. After

Social Anxiety And Emotional Intelligence Among Adults
Social Anxiety in Relation to Emotional Intelligence among adults
Several decades ago, researchers revealed new academic terms that is useful in studying human
behavior. Emotional intelligence and social anxiety concepts were developed from social contexts
in relation to psychology. The two concepts can be studied consecutively with a correlation created
between them. Emotional intelligence can be defined as the capability to manage and identify
individual emotions and those of other people (Bhochhibhoya Branscum, 2015). On the other hand,
Social anxiety is defined as the fear of interacting with people that creates a feeling of self
consciousness or being negatively judged (Blackhart, Williamson, Nelson, 2015). In other words, it

High social anxiety among adults is linked to poor self control or emotional intelligence especially
during interactions. Although the relationship between social anxiety and emotional intelligence
has been so far tested by few researchers, all of them have agreed on the correlation. Therefore, the
current study seeks clarify the correlation between social anxiety and emotional intelligence among
adults. Self control is very important among adults in the society but not everyone has its
possession. It can be termed as poor or good depending on the degree of self control. Social anxiety
and emotional intelligence can be tested in a conversation where the individuals engage each other
in a natural environment (Blackhart, Williamson, Nelson, 2015). It is important for adults to have
self control while engaging in social interactions.
Emotions are considered one of the most important sources of information as well as facilitate the
processing of information among adults. Many psychologies researchers have agreed on most roles
of emotions in their interpretations guided by intelligence in a social conversation. Furthermore,
they agree that emotions influence the thought system of an individual and that of other people as
well as guide their actions. In addition to that, social anxiety is a basic element of human behavior
since it involves the failures and successes related to emotional intelligence. The use of emotions
cannot be avoided especially in

The Historical, Political And Political Role Of The...
The original intent of the Eurovision Song Contest, through the European Broadcasting Union
(EBU), was to unite countries after the Second World War, through music. As one of the first and
now longest running mass media light entertainment programmes to broadcast globally , to what
extent has it successfully met its aims? Consider this question by using one appropriate case study
from the show and situating it within a historical and political context.
The historical, political and social role of the Eurovision Song Contest
Essay question /argument
In this essay, I shall examine the historical, political and social position of the Eurovision Song
Contest. It is a well known fact that the song contest is one of the most famous television show
contests in Europe and internationally. What impact did Eurovision have on the post World War II
days?
Throughout the essay, I will aim to discuss the original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest and
its effects as well as the milestones of the show in the light of their impact. The first show I will
introduce is the year 1974 when ABBA won the contest and the Portuguese song became the
anthem of the revolution against their government (Morais, 2007). The second show I will
analyze is the year 1998 when the Israeli Dana International became the first transgender winner of
the ESC with her unforgettable song DIVA . She has become a gay icon and, both religiously and
politically, has become one of the great figures of the

What Is Electromyography Is A Method For Evaluate Levels...
Abstract: Electromyography is a method to evaluate levels of muscular activity. When a muscle
fiber contracts, an action potential is generated and this circulates along the muscular fibers. In
electromyography, electrodes are connected to the skin and the electrical activity of muscles is
measured and graph is plotted. The surface electromyographysignals selected during the muscular
activity are interfaced with a system. The EMG signals from individual suffering from Neuropathy
and healthy individual, so obtained, are processed and analyzed using signal processing techniques.
This project includes the investigation and interpretation of EMG signals of healthy and
Neuropathic individuals using MATLAB. The prospective utilization of this study is in developing
the prosthetic device for the people with Neuropathic disability.
Keywords: EMG, action potential, MATLAB, Neuropathy.
I.INTRODUCTION
Human gait is a periodic activity and a well incorporated effort of brain, nerves and muscles. It is
based on the harmonized action of 28 main muscles to manage the trunk and limbs. This action
generates the energy required to oppose gravity and thrust the body frontward. All the individuals
have different gait [1].
With a large population of disabled people worldwide, assistive technologies and techniques are in

Analysis Of The Book Wanderlust
Chapter One: Wanderlust (P.g. 1 2)
He swung his sword, a giant blade bigger than the man wielding it, from atop the horse he rode
and took out a swath of knights. It was inspirational to see him fight, he wielded his blade with
the grace of a fencer and the ferocity of a starving lion. Those that saw him fight, friend or foe,
called him a monster on the battlefield, because of his horrifying demeanor and impeccable
fighting ability. He continued to carve a path directly through the enemy forces, the horse he was
riding upon had taken an arrow to its side so he had dismounted and left it behind. He drew his
short sword and began to take the enemy out one by one, once his short sword had broken, he used
his knives and once those to had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He watched the arrow soar towards him, and for a split second, wanted for it to hit, wished for his
death but instinctively blocked it, he shook off the idea and charged forwards. He swung his great
blade which the shooter seemed to dodge with ease,
A giant sword is useless if you aren t able to swing it fast enough she quickly shouted between
swings.
Your voice is too high for a man, but too different to that of a young boy, you must be a woman he
paused for a moment, strange to see one like yourself on the battlefield.
Well, it s also quite strange to see a man walking the battlefield with a blade as long as he is tall
isn t it? she said with a chuckle, then her face seemed to lose all emotion,
I saw what you did, to these helpless people, you slaughtered them you goddamn monster; and
because of that, I cannot let you leave here alive!
If that s how you wish to die, then so be it he echoed throughout the courtyard without a second s
thought. He swung first, his giant sword quickly dodged by the cloaked woman, she retaliated by
throwing knives towards him, he quickly moved his sword in the path of the blades, blocking two
of them but a third hit him directly on the side. The man screamed out in pain
You fool, you re going to pay for that! , his speed seemed to quicken and his swings were getting
harder to dodge,

Sightseeing At Havana
Sightseeing in Havana An Insider s Guide If it s your first holiday in Havana, head straight for
the magnificently restored Old Havana (La Habana Vieja). Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site,
much of the area has been lovingly returned to its former grandeur. It s a colonial marvel, a riot of
colour and full of atmosphere, its quirky blend of architectural styles endlessly fascinating.
The area is a treasure to stroll around, and, along with Vedado, is the liveliest part of the city by
day. It boasts four gorgeous 16th century plazas. Check out sleepy Plaza Vieja (right). There s a
wealth of museums and galleries in the area, and many of Havana s most impressive sights.
An impressive crafts market, Fria de la Artesana, just behind Iglesia de Paula on Calle San Pedro, is
not to be missed. It sells every Cuban craft imaginable, is equipped with a CADECA, fruit juice
vendors, kiosks and a breezy seating area where you can relax with a drink and enjoy a view of the
port (note, however, that it closes on Mondays).
Wander off the main drag, calle Obispo, and you ll see an altogether different side of the Old
Town: a well established residential area that s home to an estimated 70,000 people. Take a
coffee break at Caf El Escorial on Plaza Vieja. Alternatively, avoid the tourists and head to La
Barrita, in the impressive art deco Bacardi building on Avenida de los Misiones. On Parque

During the early 1940s President Franklin D. Roosevelt commissioned the Manhattan Engineer
District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to start the creation of the United States wartime atomic
bombs (Findlay Hevly, 2011, p. XI). Dubbed the Manhattan Project, the area of Hanford,
Washington became the new plutonium factory after the federal government acquired 670 square
mile reservation (Findlay Hevly, 2011, p. XI). This reservation was made up of private land
holdings, but became condemned for the government to start its build. Near the mid 1940s the first

On August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb is used in war on the Japanese city of Hiroshima,
followed by Nagasaki on August 6, 1945 (Findlay Hevly, 2011, p. XI). Both atomic bombs were
fueled by the plutonium from the Manhattan Project. Death counts from Hiroshima ranged from
99,000 to 166,000, and 60,000 to 80,000 for Nagasaki from the debris, blast, heat, and radiation
(Listwa, 2012). However, these counts did not factor in the rescue workers who entered the areas
breathing in radioactive dust, nor had appropriate clothing and radiation gamma readers like present
day to view levels of radiation. Between the United States and the Japanese government research
and continued healthcare are conducted by the Radiation Effects Research Foundation. This
foundation estimates that after the bombings between the second and sixth year there was an
increase in leukemia cases, especially children (Listwa, 2012). Research continues to follow
leukemia incidences, cancer in registries, and children of the survivors.
Plutonium production continued through the Cold War, with a new reactor built in 1959 (United
States Department of Energy, 2016). From the start of creation to postwar there were no governing
federal or state standards of tolerable radiation exposure levels that could be enforceable by law
(American Public Health Association, 2017). Instead the companies that were placed in

Longfellow Vs Keats
Both poems are sonnets that focus on early death; however, each poet displays different emotions
for life and death in their poems. On the one hand, Keats displays an optimistic view of life, but is
contemptuous towards death since it will mark an unwanted end to his artistic, romantic, and
countless other endeavors. On the other, Longfellow distrusts life and fears death. As an indicator of
these contrasting sentiments, the poets not only use significantly different types of poems, but they
also differ in their rhetorical devices purposes in the shared iambic pentameter structure. In
particular, they use imagery, diction, mechanical devices and metaphors in varying extents and
purposes. Keats Elizabethan sonnet contains vivid, buoyant imagery... Show more content on

In both openings, each poet recognizes the ephemeral element of life. Keats fears that he may
cease to be, while Longfellow reflects, half of life is gone (Keats 1; Longfellow 1). Through
diction, this trend becomes evident. For example, Keats uses the words, Huge cloudy symbols,
and shadows, indicating almightiness and transcendence (Keats 6, 8). Longfellow too
recognizes nature s power, going even further, capitalizing the words Past and Death
(Longfellow 9, 14). Such capitalization is done out of respect for the power of these words, and
further, as a reiteration that the present is determined by the past and the future. In effect,
Longfellow realizes that the present is the morphed version of the past and the future, and thus
gives no capitalization, or significance, to it. Keats experiences the opposite. He very much
endorses the attitude of carpe diem, trying to move on from the past only to be greeted by the
grim face of death. By the end of the poem, each poet describes similar circumstances. Keats
approaches a shore, while Longfellow ascends a hill to contemplate life. They differ, however, as
Keats views a wide world replete with literary repute and love, but realizes it is nothingness in the
bigger picture (Keats 13 14). Thus, he pursues what remains of his opportunities, despite knowing
his human insignificance. Conversely, Longfellow sees the gleaming lights of an idyllic past with a
waterfall of death that will haunt him now and what remains of his future (Longfellow

Essay On Canarium
1.0 Introduction
Canarium schweinfurthii Engl. (Burseraceae) is a large tropical tree widely distributed in East,
Central, and West Africa. A mature tree reaches a height of 45 57 m with a straight cylindrical
bole up to 27 m with a trunk diameters of 1.2 to 1.5 m over a slight buttress root (Mbagwu et al.,
2008). The tree is cultivated for its fruits which are edible and produce oil which is harvested on a
large scale in West Africa. The oil from the resin is also used in perfumery and medicines due to its
lavender like smell. In Uganda, the resin from the tree is usually burnt to produce incense for
ceremonial purposes(Ssegawa and Kasenene, 2007). The stem and bark are used to treat coughs,

So far, no work has been done on the use of Canarium oil.
The resin of Canarium contains a high percentage of essential oils with known antioxidant and
antifungal properties (Koudou et al., 2005; Obame et al., 2007). Therefore, we were interested if
the essential oil could be used as a protective agent against termites as well. Furthermore, location
and climatic conditions have an effect on the growth of a tree and its production of resin and
essential oils. Therefore we wanted to establish if the oil from Uganda contains the same
components as the oils obtained from other parts of Africa.
In this study, the chemical composition of the essential oil from the resin of Ugandan Canarium
was determined, and its anti termitic activity was established.
2. Experimental procedures
2.1 Plant materials
The resin of Canarium schweinfurthii was harvested from the bark of a mature tree in Sango bay
and stored in a freezer. Termites used in the assay were Macrotermes bellicosus as these have been
found to be the most destructive to wood and timber. Termites above the third instar were used.
2.2 Isolation of essential oils
The essential oil was obtained by steam distillation of the resin (50g) for 4 hours. The oil obtained
was dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate and kept in amber coloured bottles at 4 oC prior to
analysis.
2.3 GC MS analysis
The essential was analysed on an Agilent GC 6890N/MSD 5973B with a fused

Comparative Analysis of Cultural Ideologies in Norway and the United States
The intent of this paper is to examine individualistic and communitarian cultural ideologies within
two distinctly different political environments. The first challenge in comparing two nations is
deciding which approach is most appropriate. There are several approaches in political science that
have proven most beneficial when making comparisons. This study will use a comparative
government approach to examine the political institutions, processes, constitutions, and functions of
government within each of the two countries selected. The countries that have been chosen for this

The problem is that our individual actions, each perfectly consistent with our individual
preferences, can and often do combine to produce collective outcomes that none of us would have
chosen (Bickers, 11). And thus lead to the need for protection against those outcomes, administered
through a democratic government.
There are several authors that are noted for their dynamic research on the communitarian
movement. The spokesperson for the contemporary communitarian movement is Amitai Etzioni.
He explains that communitarians believe that the fundamental and central political problem is
finding the right amount of togetherness and common concern. He continues, if people are to
individualistic, they fail to support each other s efforts and to respect each other s needs. If people
are too unified, they become authoritarian and attempt to use the state to impose a common set of
beliefs and practices.
Like ancient philosophers, communitarians find the lack of unified purpose and direction in
society to be a crucial problem. Those who speak of the joys of not associating with others, but of
being left alone by them, are most closely associated with individualism. And their noteworthy
spokesperson is author and abolitionist Henry David Thoreau. This early author, observing the
pressures, expectations, and demands made upon us by the societies in which we live, concluded
that the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation (Scott, 51). The

Through August 21 to November 22 2015, Yale University Art Gallery is presenting Donald
Blumbergs Photographs: Selection from the Master Sets. 160 photographs from last six decades.
Donald Blumberg is a contemporary American photographer born in 1935. In his early carrier, his
work focused on street photography; later on he developed his own style showing mass media,

Blumberg was interested in at that time.
His earlier work in the 60 s shows streets of New York City, both urban areas as people living
there. What s interesting in his work is that he not only captured everyday life, but also signs,
advertisements and newspapers, which give us more information about past events. His street
photography resulted in an amazing series In Front of Saint Patrick s Cathedral . He used the
black of the cathedral doorway as a frame to photograph people emerging from the church. He
used a long exposure to black out any detail inside of the cathedral, and concentrated on the
people. The success of the series is in an unexpected angles and composition he used. Sometimes
he would put all the people clustered in a corner or show only heads on the edge of a photo. His
work is very high contrast and dynamic. Some of the figures in the photos are blurry; ghost like

For more than two centuries, coffee has been a fundamental part of the culinary and social culture
of New Orleans.
It s not just the city s penchant for chicory cafГ© au lait served alongside warm beignets. Nor is it
just landmark gathering spots like CafГ© du Monde and or Morning Call Coffee Stand that
spawned the notion of the laborers coffee break and served locals and tourists for generations.
And it isn t solely boozy CafГ© BrulГґt, the brandy spiked coffee drink New Orleans families

Alongside these the gustatory expressions is the city s historic and longstanding role in the coffee

On a Saturday afternoon, March 25, 1911, a fire started on the top floors of a factory in New

long hours with little or no breaks. They often worked without food or were afraid to stop to eat
because of the demands from their boss. The pressure was real and it came from the owners and
the people they hired to run the factory. One factory employee gave this description... The bosses

Theme Of Player Piano By Kurt Vonnegut
Kurt Vonnegut has expressed his views and experiences through his novel. From the novels
Player Piano and Breakfast of champions, Kurt Vonnegut tries to bring out the problems that
handicap the lives of many in the United Nations of America. He tries to portray the problems
encountered by middle class and working class after the introduction of the latest technological
equipment. He has explained the impacts of technology on the status of an individual and how
his income is gradually swallowed by the upper class people. He tries to explain how workers
lose their job due to the introduction of machines in the factories. He also defines how workers are
blamed for the mistakes or errors committed by machines. He satirically states that men not only
lose their income to compete with their neighbors but their memory power too. He laughs at people
who are placed in a situation to store the mobile numbers in the mobiles as they struggle to recollect
the contact numbers of their sons and daughters.
Kurt Vonneguts basic concern in these two novels is based on the complexities of human situation.
Kurt Vonnegut mainly focuses on the disordered cycle of life and death to which all human beings
are inseparably bound. His works represent the purely existential horrors faced by men due to the

The Uk And Its Economy
1.Introduction
On 23rd June 2016, there will be an important referendum for the UK and its economy to resolve
whether the UK leaves the EU or not. The decision that will be made by the British citizens will
effect on a lot of sectors in many ways. However, it is expected that especially sports industry
which has been globally developing nowadays will be the most influenced on by that decision.
The purpose of the report is to identify what are the advantages and disadvantages for sport
related organisations caused by the case of the UK leaving the EU. In this report, it will be
focusing on Manchester City Football Club, and discussing what are the main merits and demerits

Because of this, Manchester City cannot spend as much money on signing foreign talent as these
players will face difficulty to work in the UK, meaning the club can instead invest the money that
they would have spent on players in their youth academy. Home grown players could benefit from
a Brexit (Slater 2016). Appendix 1 shows that Manchester City is in the bottom 4 of the Premier
League for a number of British players used by the club, so to switch from buying players abroad
to investing into the youth academy means that it is a positive for Manchester City as it will
make it a more traditional British club. What this does for Manchester City is inherit the squad
to become more of a Manchester like club as they can focus on bringing up home grown players
from their youth academy meaning there will be an increase in the amount of British players in
the club as at the moment there are only 4 British players within the 24 men first team of
Manchester City. What this also does for Manchester City is help the economic situation they face
themselves with as for example a player who recently has been promoted from the youth academy
into the first team is Kelechi Iheanacho is on a weekly salary of ВЈ2,236 however a player such as
Yaya Toure has a weekly salary worth ВЈ220,000. (in text citations here)

Small Change By Malcolm Gladwell
Malcolm Gladwell the author of Small Change Why the Revolution Will Not Be Retweeted.
Educates readers about Civil Rights movement events from the past, and the effects of social
media in today s time. Technology has evolved over the years, giving birth to social media.
Social media is wonderful for a lot of things, but is social media an effective resource for
activism? In the article, Gladwell starts off by telling the story about four friends. Their names
were David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, and Joseph McNeil. The four friends
were freshmen of North Carolina A T a black college located in Greensboro. February 1, 1960 at
approximately 4:30pm the four college students went to lunch at Woolworths. Woolworth was

could set up to 60 people with a stand up snack bar at the end. The bar was for the whites and the
snack bar was for the blacks. The four friends set at the counter and Ezell Blair asked the waitress
for a cup of coffee. The waitress replied we don t serve negroes here . This statement started a civil
rights movement. The four students could of just left and found somewhere else to have lunch, but
instead they returned on the next day with Twenty seven men and four women. They began to

Persuasive Essay About Study Abroad
Why do people leave their home countries in order to live in a foreign country? Why do they
move abroad? Some people believe that getting up and moving to a different is not hard, but it is
not as easy as it sounds. People do so for various reasons: to escape as a refugee if there are certain
circumstances and issues like a revolution or war are going in a country or immigrate to change
their life forever.
In my case, I decided to move to a foreign country as an exchange student, surviving a long forty
two hour flight from my home country, Tajikistan, to the USA. Actually, it was not my own idea
to study abroad. My parents decided that it would be a great idea for me to spend my junior and
senior year in the United States as an exchange student. They have always wanted the best for me.
I remember the day; My family and friends were celebrating my thirteenth birthday party. During
the party, my dad was discussing the idea of sending me abroad with his friends. First of all, I
thought he was joking then but now, four years later, I realized that it actually happened and I am
here, in Lincoln, Nebraska, about to spend my second Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in
another country, thousands miles away from home.
For me, getting used to a new life was difficult for the first two months. I had problems with a time
distribution because the time in my home country is ten hours ahead of time in Nebraska. I could
not sleep and eat, and became depressed.

Book 6 starts out with the Trojan fleet arriving on the shore of Italy. When Aeneas arrives on land
he creates the temple of Apollo, and a preistess named Sibyl meets him. Aeneas then prays to
Apollo to let him and his crew settle in Italy. Sibyl warns Aeneas that more trials still await in Italy.
Aeneasthen wonderes if Sibyl can gain him entrance to The Underworld, so that he can visit his
father s spirit. Aeneas must have a sign from the gods, first. He is told to go into the forest and
find a golden bough. If the bough breaks off easy, then it is fate. If the bough does not come off
easily, then it is not fate, and he should not travel to The Underworld. The gods lead Aeneas to a

Think of this in general as X/Y. So, the money market formula is, in general, (X interest rate Y
interest rate) / (1. + Y interest rate) or, in shorthand, (X Y) /(1 + Y) So if you were using a yen
/dollar quote for the exchange rate, you would have yen rate minus dollar rate divided by one
plus dollar rate. Note that none of this really solves Dozier s problem; but there is a theory that
in well functioning markets, the results from the two formulas should be equal. In other words,
it shouldn t make a difference whether you hedge in the forward market or in the money market.
However this theory is based on comparing apples to apples. Here the apples are the financial
instruments whose interest rates we are comparing. Our interest rate calculation is based on the
cost of a UK bank loan to Dozier compared to rate on a bank CD. The theory works a bit better if
you use the Eurodollar rate and the Europound rate in Exhibit 4, but even these are not precisely
similar instruments. However, there is another use for the formulas. Banks use them in pricing
forward contracts! Suppose that we set the two formulas equal to each other and do some
rearrangements using my X/Y approach to stay general and to remind us what we are doing. We
can get the following result, solving for the forward rate: Forward rate = Spot rate x (1 + X interest
rate) / (1 + Y interest rate) Remember the rule is X over Y. When

system of budget execution or cash planning (the subjects of Sections 4 and 5) can do more than
mitigate the problems caused by poor quality or unrealistic budget preparation.
To understand the budget preparation process in a given country, it is important to: * assess the
basic soundness by judging the budget preparation system against certain internationally accepted
standards or budget principles ; * know where to find the rules governing the budget preparation
process; and * from those rules, identify who has the responsibility for what elements of the budget
preparation process. * Recognizing the usefulness of budget principles
Based on the objective macroeconomic assessment of available revenues and financing, ideally, the
expenditure budget should aim to be comprehensive, transparent, realistic, policy oriented, and
allow for clear accountability in budget execution. These concepts form a standard by which the

Genetic Manipulation
It should remain illegal in most cases for genetic manipulation to be used in choosing a baby s
gender. Many parents have a preference for the sex of their baby. This can be for several
reasons: there could be a genetic disorder passed down through a specific sex that parents want
to avoid; the family might already have children of one sex and want to balance out the family.
However, unless the parents have received prior approval, it is currently illegal to genetically
manipulate an embryo, unless there is a legitimate medical reason. An embryo s sex is determined
by a sperm s chromosome: female sperm have an X chromosome, while male sperm have a Y
chromosome. The most common and easiest method to produce a specific sex is called in vitro...

This would either mean that paying for the service would be extremely expensive, or it would be
included in healthcare. If the cost was to be directly paid for by the family, there would be a
huge gap created between those who could buy the service and those who couldn t afford it.
Wealthy families would be able to get their choice of their child s gender and be able to ensure
that no genetic disorders would be passed down to their child. This is incredibly unfair to
families which can t afford this; having the risk of illnesses while others don t is extremely
unethical. The easiest way to fix this issue would be to have genetic manipulation of embryos
become included for free in health care. This would mean money would be taken from other,
more important areas that money could be used such as education and other health care areas.
Some areas already struggle with funding, so other additions which take more funding, even a
slight amount, are unwelcome. While in some cases genetic manipulations of embryos can be
useful in a medical sense, most possible scenarios would have negative repercussions. The
legalization of all embryo modifications would have some positive effects, such as minimizing the
possibility of genetic disorders, but the upsides don t make up for all the downsides that would
occur. It is for this reason that this modification should only be allowed in specific, medically
approved

White Man s Burden Imperialism
Views on Imperialism
Imperialism is the extension of a nation s authority by territorial acquisitions or by the
establishment of economic and political dominance over other nations (American Heritage
Dictionary). Both Imperialists and Anti Imperialists in the late nineteeth century published
arguments for or against the justification of Westerners civilizing less advanced peoples. Western
societies Imperialist motives were to further their own economic and political standings.
Humanitarianism outreach and Social Darwinism were excuses to assert Western dominance.

The Historical Basis Of Heart Of Darkness
The historical basis of Heart of Darkness is the overtaking of the Congo by King Leopold II of
Belgium. Leopold subjugated the indigenous people of the Congo in order to use them as slaves
in his quest for rubber and ivory, much like that of the Company who said they were helping the
natives while searching for ivory and Kurtz who took advantage of the peoples beliefs to have
them procure the ivory for him.
In an attempt to attain colonies for Belgium, Leopold acquired a colony of his own as a private
citizen. Leopold was able to establish a private holding company known as the Association
Internationale Africaine . This company was publically intended to be an international scientific
and philanthropic association; however under the guise of this company Leopold hired a Henry
Morton Stanley to acquire a colony in the Congo. Stanley was able to gain the land by deceiving
the chiefs into signing land deal when they thought they were signing friendship treaties. This
colony would be known as the Congo Free State after the Berlin Conference in 1884 1885 when
the representatives of 14 European countries as well as the United States recognized Leopold s
claim to most of the land that he had acquired. When everything was said and done the Congo
Free State was 905,000 square miles, 76 times larger than Belgium. Leopold had total control over

A Day In The Life Of Gulliver Rhetorical Devices
Petty, vindictive, cruel, ill informed, egotistical, these are just a few words that come to mind when
describing the Lilliputians attitude in their massive world. At the beginning of the story the
capturing of the mountain man is understandable due to his enormity and their incomprehension on
the situation. However, their ridicule of Gulliver and enslavement of him, forcing him to do what
they want in order for him to get his freedom, is completely inhumane despite his benefits to their
society. The irony of the situation is that he can leave and overpower their whole community at

The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Quotation:
He d come down with a fever and they lay in the woods like fugitives. Nowhere to build a fire.
Nowhere safe. The boy sat in the leaves watching him. His eyes brimming. Are you going to die,
Papa? he said. Are you going to die?
No. I m just sick.
I m really scared.
I know. It s all right. I m going to get better. You ll see.
His dreams brightened. The vanished world returned (186 187).
Response:
(CL) The last prediction made, foresaw an early death for the man leaving the boy on his own.
The man tells his son earlier in the story that there is nothing wrong with having nightmares, for
if they are having good dreams it means they have given up and he doesn t want the boy to give
up. The man s dreams are becoming brighter and the world before the fire is coming into his head.
The man is giving up. The prediction made earlier is coming true. (S) Cormac McCarthy
doesn t use quotes at all in this novel which implies a world so inhuman, hopeless and desiccated
there is no need or use of this punctuation. This style is very apparent in this quote as the man
continues to give up and becomes fatigued. Also, McCarthy adding the fact that the man s dreams
are becoming more lighthearted and content right after it is revealed he his becoming sick adds a
large sense of foreshadowing.

Anne-Marie Slaughter
Everyday men and women go to work in a variety of jobs as different as those in them.
Yet it is brought to attention that there is a problem. Women don t feel as if they are treated fairly
in their work place. That even with the strides society has made in this country, we still are
dwarfed by the work needed to be truly fair and equal. Anne Marie Slaughter is a woman who has
taught at Princeton and worked in the U.S. State Department. She continues work on public policy
for a nonprofit. She states that women cannot have it all due to the way the work place is set up
and favors men. This outlook is masking a different problem by covering it with gender disparity

Giving insight into the old way jobs worked when men went to work and women for the

out on their loved ones. Men just as much as women want to be with their significant other and
children. While Slaughter lightly touches on the fact a work week overhaul would benefit
everyone she doesn t stay with that thought for long. Though I believe if her and other feminists
like her did, change would happen far faster. By creating a divide between men and women in the
workplace and stating women need the only change, it creates greater opposition. It is also a
narrower view on gender itself. If instead of saying men thrive in the current work place and
women suffer without changes being made creates hate for men and the thought that women are
weaker somehow. Gender doesn t give some boost to men or women in the workplace. A man

She is known to be one of the most influential novelist of the twentieth century in African America literature. Hurston is described to be a very opinionated woman that stood for what she believed in; which reflected in some of her works. In addition to her many titles such as, being an anthropologist and short story writer, she was closely related and heavily focused on the Harlem Renaissance. Zora Neale Hurston and her political opinions placed her at odds with important figures during that time which I wholeheartedly believe played a part in the undeniable attraction that most people have towards her works. Being that Hurston was such a unique writer, to understand the ethics and themes of her and how she contributed to African American literature comes with an understanding of the background and childhood she had. In some of Hurston s works she acknowledges Eatonville, which was the first all black community in America that she moved to when she was only three years old (Kimmons, 3). Hurston viewed Eatonville as a place where blacks could ultimately be themselves without having to conform to the norms of a white society (Kimmons, 1). Hurston was protected from the realisms of judgement and disgust towards African Americans; since Eatonville was described to be somewhat safe from lynchings and other violence related to racism. When a muscle fiber contracts, an action potential is generated and this circulates along the muscular fibers. In electromyography, electrodes are connected to the skin and the electrical activity of muscles is measured and graph is plotted. The surface electromyographysignals selected during the muscular activity are interfaced with a system. The EMG signals from individual suffering from Neuropathy and healthy individual, so obtained, are processed and analyzed using signal processing techniques. This project includes the investigation and interpretation of EMG signals of healthy and Neuropathic individuals using MATLAB. On the one hand, Keats displays an optimistic view of life, but is contemptuous towards death since it will mark an unwanted end to his artistic, romantic, and countless other endeavors. On the other, Longfellow distrusts life and fears death. As an indicator of these contrasting sentiments, the poets not only use significantly different types of poems, but they also differ in their rhetorical devices purposes in the shared iambic pentameter structure. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both openings, each poet recognizes the ephemeral element of life. Keats fears that he may cease to be, while Longfellow reflects, half of life is gone (Keats 1; Longfellow 1). Through diction, this trend becomes evident. For example, Keats uses the words, Huge cloudy symbols, and shadows, indicating almightiness and transcendence (Keats 6, 8). Longfellow too recognizes nature s power, going even further, capitalizing the words Past and Death (Longfellow 9, 14). Such capitalization is done out of respect for the power of these words, and further, as a reiteration that the present is determined by the past and the future. In effect, Longfellow realizes that the present is the morphed version of the past and the future, and thus gives no capitalization, or significance, to it. Keats experiences the opposite. He very much endorses the attitude of carpe diem, trying to move on from the past only to be greeted by the grim face of death. By the end of the poem, each poet describes similar circumstances. Keats approaches a shore, while Longfellow ascends a hill to contemplate life. They differ, however, as Keats views a wide world replete with literary repute and love, but realizes it is nothingness in the bigger picture (Keats 13 14). Thus, he pursues what remains of his opportunities, despite knowing his human insignificance. Conversely, Longfellow sees the gleaming lights of an idyllic past with a waterfall of death that will haunt him now and what remains of his future (Longfellow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are several authors that are noted for their dynamic research on the communitarian movement. The spokesperson for the contemporary communitarian movement is Amitai Etzioni. Those who speak of the joys of not associating with others, but of being left alone by them, are most closely associated with individualism. He used a long exposure to black out any detail inside of the cathedral, and concentrated on the people. The success of the series is in an unexpected angles and composition he used. Appendix 1 shows that Manchester City is in the bottom 4 of the Premier League for a number of British players used by the club, so to switch from buying players abroad to investing into the youth academy means that it is a positive for Manchester City as it will make it a more traditional British club. So, the money market formula is, in general, (X interest rate Y interest rate) / (1. + Y interest rate) or, in shorthand, (X Y) /(1 + Y) So if you were using a yen /dollar quote for the exchange rate, you would have yen rate minus dollar rate divided by one plus dollar rate. Note that none of this really solves Dozier s problem; but there is a theory that in well functioning markets, the results from the two formulas should be equal. In other words, it shouldn t make a difference whether you hedge in the forward market or in the money market. However this theory is based on comparing apples to apples. Here the apples are the financial instruments whose interest rates we are comparing. Our interest rate calculation is based on the cost of a UK bank loan to Dozier compared to rate on a bank CD. The theory works a bit better if you use the Eurodollar rate and the Europound rate in Exhibit 4, but even these are not precisely similar instruments. However, there is another use for the formulas. Banks use them in pricing forward contracts! Suppose that we set the two formulas equal to each other and do some rearrangements using my X/Y approach to stay general and to remind us what we are doing. The white man s burden was to send forth the best yet breed the brightest white men to go over to these under performing primitive countries and work hard at converting and modernizing theses evil and immature people Kipling refers to as, Half devil and half child (Mckay et al., 810). Kipling s poem makes a case for imperialism by telling the Europeans it is their moral obligation. It was a burden because the task would it be easy. The nonwhites will not be open to new ways and the Europeans will have weariness and the hate of those ye guard (Mckay, 810). • 35. The Historical Basis Of Heart Of Darkness The historical basis of Heart of Darkness is the overtaking of the Congo by King Leopold II of Belgium. Leopold subjugated the indigenous people of the Congo in order to use them as slaves in his quest for rubber and ivory, much like that of the Company who said they were helping the natives while searching for ivory and Kurtz who took advantage of the peoples beliefs to have them procure the ivory for him. In an attempt to attain colonies for Belgium, Leopold acquired a colony of his own as a private citizen. Leopold was able to establish a private holding company known as the Association Internationale Africaine . This company was publically intended to be an international scientific and philanthropic association; however under the guise of this company Leopold hired a Henry Morton Stanley to acquire a colony in the Congo. Stanley was able to gain the land by deceiving the chiefs into signing land deal when they thought they were signing friendship treaties. This colony would be known as the Congo Free State after the Berlin Conference in 1884 1885 when the representatives of 14 European countries as well as the United States recognized Leopold s claim to most of the land that he had acquired. When everything was said and done the Congo Free State was 905,000 square miles, 76 times larger than Belgium. Leopold had total control over an area 76 times larger than the country he ruled, giving him the ability and the power to do whatever he wished. Though Leopold privately ... • 37. A Day In The Life Of Gulliver Rhetorical Devices Petty, vindictive, cruel, ill informed, egotistical, these are just a few words that come to mind when describing the Lilliputians attitude in their massive world. At the beginning of the story the capturing of the mountain man is understandable due to his enormity and their incomprehension on the situation. However, their ridicule of Gulliver and enslavement of him, forcing him to do what they want in order for him to get his freedom, is completely inhumane despite his benefits to their society. The irony of the situation is that he can leave and overpower their whole community at any time, but Gulliver is a good person and is abiding to the rules imposed upon him by the people of Lilliput. Swift chooses to portray Lilliputians in an extremely negative light and at the end of the story they have not changed for the better, but have become even more petty, vindictive, and cruel. ... This is an act of enslavement by the Lilliputians as once they realized Gulliver wasn t a threat they should have let him go and make his own decisions... but they didn t. Instead they negotiated obscure contracts that made Gulliver a victim of enslavement to this small world. Not only was he a slave to the Lilliputians, but also to himself and his morals, as he could have easily destroyed the world and left at any time, but instead chose to ... • 44. Anne-Marie Slaughter Everyday men and women go to work in a variety of jobs as different as those in them. Yet it is brought to attention that there is a problem. Women don t feel as if they are treated fairly in their work place. That even with the strides society has made in this country, we still are dwarfed by the work needed to be truly fair and equal. Anne Marie Slaughter is a woman who has taught at Princeton and worked in the U.S. State Department. She continues work on public policy for a nonprofit. She states that women cannot have it all due to the way the work place is set up and favors men. This outlook is masking a different problem by covering it with gender disparity and assumptions about the value of men and women. Slaughter came to the understanding ... Slaughter quotes Bronnie Ware s book The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, I wish I didn t work so hard (Ware, 2011, p.688). That was said by every man she nursed. Giving insight into the old way jobs worked when men went to work and women for the majority stayed home. It shows that men don t enjoy spending all of their time at work, missing out on their loved ones. Men just as much as women want to be with their significant other and children. While Slaughter lightly touches on the fact a work week overhaul would benefit everyone she doesn t stay with that thought for long. Though I believe if her and other feminists like her did, change would happen far faster. By creating a divide between men and women in the workplace and stating women need the only change, it creates greater opposition. It is also a narrower view on gender itself. If instead of saying men thrive in the current work place and women suffer without changes being made creates hate for men and the thought that women are weaker somehow. Gender doesn t give some boost to men or women in the workplace. A man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
