1 X is title of the programme, as well as identity of
the protagonist. X frequently breaks the fourth
wall to communicate with us and provide running
commentary for the audience. The irony of the
show is, protagonist's name wasn't even
mentioned once.
Critics have lauded X with massive praise with
the general consensus being that "X is a touching,
wildly inventive comedy about a complicated
young woman navigating the aftermath of
trauma".

describes the protagonist’s fortitude and rise
from being a poor slum boy to a rich well-off
person. Whilst all this power, freedom and
individuality for the protagonist comes at the cost
of something immoral, he rationalizes his actions

A possible origin for Gengar can be traced back to

was said to float invisibly over cities. However its
name is said to be a possible derivative of the word

the most charming aspects of this regency period
Netflix series whose second season premiered on
March 25, 2022.
According to showrunner Chris Van Dusen, this

6 The opening credits of this streaming television
series were a window into the protagonist's mind.
Here is a man who has seen so much prejudice,
hatred and suffering. He clouds it with his illusions of
grandeur and assumptions of political and religious
animosity. You can also spot the use of Indus Valley
symbols during the opening credits.
Even for the opening theme, Alokananda Dasgupta,
the background score composer commented that he
came up with the idea that the theme should have a
religious connotation but it shouldn’t remind one of
any particular religion. He thought of making it like
an almost pagan thing but then had the idea of an
ominous chant.
(Cont. on next slide)
6 “What you hear in the theme is gibberish. It is
not Arabic, Persian, anything of that sort. It’s
something I hummed and then got the vocalist to

The creators confessed that they "love a good conspiracy

that there was a lot flexibility of what could happen there.
There were talks about time travel, experiments on people,”

11 ‘X’ is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language biographical
historical film based on one of the most infamous
incidents in the Indian history during the
pre-independence era.
Although ‘X’ had its fair share of critical acclaim,
praising the cast and the realistic portrayal of historical
events, it was subdued by the controversies which
encircled it few days after the release. Being named by
Forbes as the best Hindi film of 2021 ‘X’ did not make

history, when X’s synopsis leaked months prior to its
airing, there was major discourse among the Korean
populace. The synopsis made people believe that the the
male lead was a spy who infiltrated the activist movement
and the other lead, a leader at the Agency of National
Security Planning (a part of the authoritarian regime at
that time). It also implied the involvement of a North
Korean Spy in the pro-democratic movement.
Network JTBC issued a statement “With this (military

party in power colluding with the North Korean
government in order to maintain authority. X is a creative
work that shows the personal stories of individuals who
were used and victimized by those in power.”

Interestingly, X was supposed to play the protagonist of

X and Y hold a much deeper meaning along with
serving their actual purpose in the show.
X has been taken from the inspiration of the French

that kept the revolutionaries motivated against the
social and economical inequalities.
X's color is also significant for a myriad of reasons,
the most obvious being that it's one of the country Z's
two national colors. Folklore suggests that the color in
Z's flag relates to its national sport. X’s color is the
color of their signature spices as well.
