How does 3D printing work?
3D Model
G-Code
Plastic heated
Why 3D Printers?
Adjustable- growing
Affordable- standard
prosthetic vs 3D

How?
SolidWorks- Fall, Winter, Spring
3D printers

● Not knowing what to expect
● Multiple Tasks
● Needing Experience
Improved Skills
● Communication
● Organization
● Problem Solving
Our Background Experience/skill levels
Picture of teams (beginner and advanced)
Showing how we split up depending on level of SolidWorks skills
This shows that in either skill level, the students can still participate in the
project
Other Projects of Team Prototype
T-3D Makeathon
Design, 3D print and build a siege weapon
in under 48 hours
TESC Junkyard Derby
Construct a cart out of junk
Race the cart against other teams
Catcher's hand
Part of competition for designing sports
prosthetics
“Engineering Intuition”
Not just some mystical phrase said by
professors
One can see the concepts and equations
manifesting in front of them
Understanding is solidified
Through projects, technical knowledge
becomes tangible
Closing Remarks
3D Printing Opportunities
Humanitarianism and Experience
Never too late
Thank You

Editor's Notes

  1. Estevan: other skills gained Many different majors/year/levels of experience Every single member has something to gain from projects regardless of skill level
  2. Some of the projects that we have been a part of have been... These projects offer many benefits to the participants Sometimes getting away from pure theory and go to application in doing so, we develop what my professors call “engineering intuition”
  3. When i first heard the phrase imagined that it was something like spidey senses or the force, like a super power that all engineers had This phrase is not just something through around by professors. It is with projects that one acquires this skill/ability During the junkyard derby, as a structural engineer,I could see how to make our cart more stable. I could see the load paths in the body of the cart and could tell what would make it stronger and what would make it weaker Being on project teams not only provides members with professional experience, as discussed by Etevan, but also a deeper understanding of their technical knowledge This is the objective that alonso is trying to emphasise
