What is Technology?
• Technology is anything which makes life easier.
What is Technology?
• Transparent Technologies: These are technologies which are used
ubiquitously in particular classroom context such as pens, books, boards or
etc.
• Emerging Technologies: They are defined as new technologies (typically
digital technologies. These technologies have not become transparent and
ubiquitous yet (Cox, 2008).
The Benefits of Using Technology
• Effectiveness: Producing desired results
• Efficiency: Efforts dedicated for intended tasks
• Cost: Resources and energy
• Pace: Time commitment
Why do we need technology in Education?
• There are several articles in the literature stated the benefits of using technology
for educational purposes (Roblyer and Doering, 2012; Lever-Duffy, McDonald, and
Mizell, 2005; Collins and Halverson, 2009; Robin, 2008). They state that technology
has positive contributions to;
• teachers’ performance (Assessment, Monitoring, Guiding, Feedback),
• students’ motivation, engagement, and learning
• students’ higher order thinking skills(Creative, Critical, Reflective)
• students’ ability to work collaboratively.
WEB 2.0
WEB 2.0
• user-oriented which means users are active participants of web by producing and
sharing information,
• its interfaces are interactive and easy to use,
• provides social platforms in which people can communicate and interact with
each other,
• provides dynamic structure so that new information can be produced and shared
easily.
WEB 2.0
• Wikis are pages that can be created and edited by any web user.
• Wikis can provide a medium for collaborative construction of knowledge.
• Edits of a wiki can be tracked and reviewed which creates an environment for
reflection and metacognition.

• General Information:
• Wikispaces Classroom is a social writing platform for education.
• It is easy to create a classroom workspace where you and your students can
communicate and work on writing projects alone or in teams.
• Assessment tools give you the power to measure student contribution and
engagement in real-time.

• Resources & Requirements:
• Free for teachers and students. You don’t need to allocate any budget.
• Any devices connected to the Internet can work on Wikispaces Classroom works such
as laptops, tablets, and phones.
• Register with you e-mail address.
• No technical information
• Nothing else matters ;)

• How it is better than what we have:
• Classroom gets beyond the school’ building.
• Wikispaces classroom allows for a community approach in learning and sharing with
others.
• Teachers can manage all the activity, resources, conversations, and projects easily.
• Teachers can give immediate, relevant, and direct insight to all students which may
not be possible in real classroom environment.
• Parents can see what students learn for their lesson.
http://technologyforelt.wikispaces.com
• Possibility of using Wikispaces Classroom:
• Authentic task: Real world videos or audios can be embedded to the pages so that
students can understand and write reflection on it.
• Collaborative Work: Students can work together for their projects to make a product
or task.
• Elaboration: Students can elaborate their ideas with all students and take feedback in
return from teacher and peers.
• Discussion: Any discussion method can be used such as brain storming. Students who
don’t like talking can join these online discussion.
http://technologyforelt.wikispaces.com
• Possibility of using Wikispaces Classroom:
• Guided practice: Teachers can assist/supervise and monitor students’ projects. When
needed, give feedback about students’ troubles or progress.
• Independent practice: Students can make a practice of a skill without supervision or
assistance from teachers.
• Peer tutoring: Students can help their peers to grasp ideas and concepts through
monitoring and feedback.

Editor's Notes

  1. Technology is anything which makes life easier. Hence; we could count several stuff as a technology. The important point is to make something easier. That what describes technology. Technology is not only hardware devices but also useful models and methods can be described as technology.
  2. Transparent technologies are everywhere, so they can be seen easily. In other words, these are kind of technologies which are used in all classroom context. Emerging technologies are not everywhere yet. Bu they are going to be transparent if they spread all around. These technologies are mostly digital technologies.
  3. -Technology is not inherently good or bad, yet the value of using technology depends on how it is used. -Connecting learning with the real world
  4. Teachers already use Technologies why they dont use to increase student’ learning or higher order thinking skills. It does not mean that we were not able to increase problem solving skills of students before. As in the definition of technology, technology increase effectiveness, efficiency, pace and reduce the costs. ET’s aim is to facilitate learning and improve performance so technology can help us at this point.
  5. Web 1.0: Mostly read only, Basic HTML web sites Web 2.0: Read and write, blog/wikis, Sharing content, Web 2.0 tools alone does not necessarily enhance education, yet a mix of teaching strategies and technology innovations can create unique and successful learning environments.
