Editor's Notes

  1. How do you know if you have BIG DATA? Think of it in terms of volume” (the amount of data), “velocity” (the speed of information generated and flowing into the enterprise, typically real time streaming and log data ) and “variety” (the kind of data available), typically referred to as unstructured data, meaning not relational indexed data, often text based with a single key with a value (text as the value) called key/value store.) Typically if your org meets any of these three “V’s” “in excessive terms”, you “may” have a need to manage Big Data. Meaning if the volume, velocity and the variety of the data is becoming unmanageable due to any of these conditions, Big Data processing in the cloud may be your answer. You can manage Big Data in the cloud or you can access providers/partners such as Oracle to process Big Data as a Service for you – as you will see later with Oracle Data Cloud.
