HEAnet is Ireland's national education and research network that provides internet services to universities, institutes of technology, and the educational and research community. It has a large fiber optic network infrastructure across Ireland. HEAnet offers video conferencing services for higher education and research institutions, including a global dialling scheme, gateway for legacy systems, multipoint control unit, and video conference archiving. Several case studies showcase how Irish universities and institutes use HEAnet's video conferencing services for lectures, events, and guest speakers from other locations. HEAnet is working to promote high definition video conferencing as the standard and procuring HD video conference endpoints for client meeting rooms.
