The document provides instructions for a DNA extraction lab activity. It includes links to a video demonstration of the DNA extraction process. The key steps involve using a cheek swab to collect cells from the inside of the mouth, separating the DNA from other cell materials, and analyzing the extracted DNA to identify individuals or for other genetic testing and forensic analysis purposes. Repeat polymorphisms found in DNA are useful for creating unique fingerprints to identify individuals.

2. Developing A World Class Inclusive Education System Essay
The Special Education 2000 programme was introduced by the New Zealand Ministry of Education
1996. By introducing such a programme the government intended to develop a world class
inclusive education system. The model and aim at that stage was to reform the education system
where children with disabilities could be integrated into the mainstream educationsystem. This
would enable children with disabilities to attend their local community schools where having the
same opportunities as their siblings and friends from their community. In 1996 Lipsky Gartner
described inclusive education as students with disabilities having full membership in age
appropriate classes in their neighbourhood schools, with appropriate supplementary aids and
support services . In more recent years it has become evident that inclusive education should include
the participation of all students in schooling. The system had to be restructured so that the culture,
policies and practices in schools can cater to the diverse needs of all children within the community
that the schoolis located in. Inclusive schools are based on the belief that all children can learn.
They should also respect that children are different and all differences need to acknowledged and
catered to. Policies, systems and the structures within schools should be enhanced to meet the needs
of all children.
There has been a concerted effort made by the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand
government to reform inclusive

3. Empowerment Theory
Empowerment as a goal in feminist therapy is achieved by reframing and reconceptualizing
psychopathology as an external patriarchal social structure. The concept of psychopathology is
generally avoided in feminist therapy. Instead, feminist therapy uses the terms distress (subjective
experience of misplaced well being) and dysfunction (ways of being that created life difficulties;
Brown, 2010). Shifting the blame to uncontrollable forces can be empowering for the client. The
experience of powerlessness and disempowerment are central to occurrence of distress and
dysfunction. Brown (2010) conceptualized power existing across four domains of human
experience: (1) somatic/biological power body is accepted and experienced as safe place; (2)
intrapersonal/intrapsychic power thoughts and feelings are known, intuition trusted; (3)
interpersonal/social contextual power boundaries and relationships are healthy; and (4) spiritual
/existential power meaning making systems can respond to existential challenges. Issues of
empowerment (or disempowerment) can occur within and across these various domains. Repeated

These four axes of power provide opportunity for clients to explore and break their trance of
powerlessness. Therapists invite clients to examine and identify where and how they can access
greater power and to explore tools and strategies within and through the therapeutic relationship.
Additionally, the empowerment models can be targeted at any of the 4 axes of power depending
on the goals of the client. Power is reconceptualized as a continuous rather than discrete variable
which can be gained. Distress and dysfunction are reframed as empowering, reflecting the
motivation to take those steps to be a powerful individual. The metaphor of symptom as resistance
offered by Brown (2010) connects clients to their agency in attempting to address

Gentrification in the city:
Rauch (1993), Crihfield and Panggaben (1995), Glaser et al (1995), Simon (1998), Simon and
Nardinelli (2002) and Glaser and Saiz( 2004) address human capital as impacting the economic
performance of the area and is also identified as the main determinant of growth in metropolitan
areas. Crihfield and Panggabean (1995) include four points of production function: labor, private
physical capital, public infrastructure capital, and human capital. The researchers analyzed race,
amenities, growth, geography as well as public capital investment to ascertain the large impact
human capital has on the growth of the city, and in the case study of Atlanta, this growth impacts the

Smith views gentrification as a negative thing, and a product of political economic shifts in local
and global markets (Smith pp.92) . He notes that this revanchist or French for Revenge city theme
aggressively re claims the city and tries to re infuse the city with middle class morals, standards
and costs. Gentrification also experiences a pattern of what many note as consumption in which
those with the sweat equity such as the LGBT community but some such as Rose (1984)
suggested that first wave gentrifiers were of small means, but were able to carve out spaces and
enclaves of sage space based on sweat equity Smith (1996) reintroduces the notion of the rent gap in
gentrification. Knopp (1987) mentions the increase in rents and the inability for pioneer gentrifiers
in the gay community to keep up with the increase in taxes and home prices.
Knopp (1990) analyzes the significance of gays in the gentrification process in New Orleans,
Louisiana. He finds that are three sets of events that present catalysts for neighborhood
transformation; the transformation included gay men, specifically white gay men who were active
in the community and also developers of the neighborhood. Knopp concluded that, ...the class
interests of those who treat land as a financial asset can be facilitated by forming cross cultural and
cross class alliances with gay communities ( p.337). Knopp (1990) also believed that the male

Y + XC в†’ XYC (2)
XYC в†’ CZ (3)
CZ в†’ C + Z (4) This represents a typical reaction scheme, where C Catalyst X and Y Reactants Z

In reaction 1 the catalyst is consumed even though in reaction 4 it is subsequently produced, so it

As catalysis the chemical nature of catalysts is also diverse. For the many reactions involving water,
including hydrolysis and its reverse, the most widely used catalysts is proton acids. Multifunctional
solids often are catalytically active.
e.g. alumina, zeolites, graphitic carbon, nanoparticles, nanodots, higher order oxides, and facets of
bulk materials.
To catalyze redoxreactions like oxidation and hydrogenation, transition metals are often used. For
example nickel such as Raney nickel for hydrogenation, and vanadium (V) oxide for oxidation of
sulfur dioxide into sulfur trioxide by the so called contact process. Palladium, platinum, gold,

be traffic on the freeways, but they try their best to cause fewer problems for people in the society.
The members that were in the meeting would give suggestions or feedback, and recommendations

Transportation issue. The Directive was taking a look at the transportation ecological impact
reports, future transportation expansion strategies, and school crossing guardsites. I feel like their
thoughts were all good, however in my opinion it is not a good ideato use all those
recommendations regarding about the issue. The reason for this is because then it would be too
costly. I feel that it would be best to just take the best recommendation and then use that as a
strategy for traffic flow. In addition, I like the idea of how they need of school crossing guard

Abstract The 16s rRNA gene sequencing is a widely common amplicon sequencing method used to
identify and compare bacteria in a given sample. This method is well established and allows to
study phylogeny and taxonomy of complex microbiomes. In this study, an unknown sample of
extracted microbial DNA was analyzed by performing the polymerase chain reaction followed by
agarose gel electrophoresis. The results were accurate since three distinct bands (1500 basepairs)
corresponded to our sample (duplicates) and the positive control. This indicates clearly the
amplification of the 16s rRNA gene whose further sequencing technique constitutes a pivotal tool in
the accurate identification of bacterial isolates as well as the discovery of novel bacteria in clinical
microbiology laboratories.

15. Native Languages Are Becoming Extinct
As we move deeper through the 21st century native languages are becoming more extinct. An
endangered language is one that is likely to become extinct in the near future. Many languages are
going out of practice and being replaced by the others that are more used and dominant in their
particular region or nation, such as English in the U.S. or Spanish in Mexico. Unless the current
languagetrends that we are using now are reversed, the now endangered languages will most likely
to become extinct within the next century. Many of these languages are no longer being taught to
children or to the new speakers; it is certain that these languages will become extinct when the last
fluent speaker dies. Dozens of languages today have only one native speaker still living, and that
person s death will mean the extinction of the language: meaning that no one will speak or know
the language at all.

A Guard on Religious Freedom
In the eyes of our founding fathers, few things seemed as important as the separation of church and
state. The first amendment grants all Americans the freedom to subscribe to any religion they wish
and promises that the government will not promote any religion above any other. Although the
separation of church and state and the freedom of religion are firmly and concretely secured in the

under threat of losing its place as an American standard.

It is important to choose a battle wisely to not take away from future battle and maintain importance
on the battles deserving of a fight.
One such battle that is deserving of attention is the battle of prayer in school or the moment of
silence as a clever euphemism. To publicly bring attention to students with different beliefs is
clearly a violation of the ideals of our fore fathers. Not only does the moment of silence bring
sensitive differences to light but clearly presses on the issues of religion and possibly alienates
religious minorities.
Another such recent test to the separation of church and state was President Bush s public definition
of marriage and attack on homosexual relationships. Under the code of unethical, Mr. Bush
attempted to ban the union of two same sex members from joining as married. Although no Biblical
scripture has been presented as support for the proposed constitutional amendment, the
disagreement with same sex marriage can primarily be found in the religious fields or in area s
traditionally known as religiously dominant areas. Marriage is both an emotional as well as
contractual union of individuals. To prevent the union should require the backing of evidence that
appeals to more than the fickle nature of the public.

important to focus on

Introduction Ecology is the division of biology that deals with the relationships and interactions

believed that having an understanding of ecology can help us to better manage Australian
environments. Since settlement, European land management practices have placed our natural
environments under considerable pressure resulting in Australia losing nearly 40% of its forests,
and a significant amount of the remaining native vegetation being highly disintegrated (Bradshaw,

What does it mean to be human? This is a question that is often asked in literary works. Is it our

else? Perhaps it is our ability to feel empathy for other humans and other forms of life. If this is so,
then how is it that we also have violence and wars where humans hurt and kill other humans? How

It was up to Deckard to destroy the remaining six. Unfortunately, the androids who escaped were

causes inequities and disparities can help to bridge the gap of inequality. Eliminating health
disparity will protect and improve the health of racial and ethnic minority population, which is
consistent with the principle of public health improving and protecting health of populations.

The article is based on the experience of a Dr. Ron Wyatt, a reputable medical doctor/ patient
safety officer, who sought medical care in a hospital when he had a fever of 104 degrees. The
hospital was referred to as an award winning hospital. The article suggested that he received
lackluster and substandard care from racially biased medical personnel. Considering the events of
that day, one can only imagine the process of conferring award on individuals and institutions. His

22. Reflection On Group Reflection
Group Reflection
Renae Van Der Linden
Roberts Wesleyan College Group Reflection When leading a group, it is important to understand
what the overall goal should be, as well as understanding what the group expectations are. Knowing
what the group goals and expectations are provides a basic outline of what the group dynamic
should be. Additionally, the goals and group expectations should be discussed with the group
members, providing the opportunity to share their input and possibly even make changes to what
the facilitator believes the group goal(s) or expectations should be.
The goal for the psychoeducational group based on mindfulness was to: define mindfulness,
share various mindfulness skills, discuss the applicability of mindfulness, and practice a few of
the mindfulness skills. Aside from these goals, which were created for the specific group session
that was led in class, there are also goals of psychoeducation as a whole. The purpose of
psychoeducation is to share information with group members about a particular topic. Related to
that topic, skills should be built upon. Psychoeducation not only provides group members to share
their personal experiences related to the group s topic, but also to teach the group members how to
create their own support system outside of the group (Corey, 2016).
Overall, I felt as though the goals of the group on mindfulness were accomplished, as well as the
goals of psychoeducation as a whole. Whitney and I were able to share information on mindfulness
with the class, which included the definition, skills, applicability, and examples of mindfulness,
encompassing the goal for the particular session that was led. Furthermore, I felt as though the
group members were able to share their personal experiences related to mindfulness and were even
able to create their own techniques and skills that can be implemented to reach the desired goal of
mindfulness in their personal lives.
Even though a few group members openly shared what they like to do to stay mindful, one way to
engage the group a little more would have been to go around and ask members to share, if they felt
comfortable, what they like to do to attain mindfulness. Opening this door to the conversation

Intersex and transgender females deserve a place of belonging in the world of sport. Society s
need to categorize humans makes it difficult for minorities to find a sense of belonging. Humans
are easily given labels by society as gay, straight, black, asian, female, male etc. This system works
for the majority of people, and those who fit in do not see a necessity to change these constructs. As
Judith Butler argues in her essay Undoing Genderwe must remake the definition of human by
deconstructing our preconceived notion of humanity and continuously reassembling it. Butler
eloquently states This means we must learn to live and to embrace the destruction and re

Physicist Ira Hammerman discovered that in a set of swimming and running races woman s world
records were consistently about 90 percent of the men s world record. Further research proved this
ratio true across diverse sports (Meyer). Many believe that a male to female transgender holds an
unfair competitive advantage against a cisgender female because they were born as males and
therefore retain some of the advantages that come with masculinity. These advantages go beyond
the biological differences in gender which can be equated with hormonal treatment. In her essay
Essentialism and Experience Bell Hooks discusses the effect of male privilege. She argues that
male students, who have spent most of their lives benefitting from male privilege, do not fully
understand the passion of experience in a classroom. Similarly we can explore the benefits of
male privilege in sport which is a drastically male dominant aspect of society. A study at the
University of Southern California uncovered that L.A. based broadcast affiliates devote only 3.2
percent of airtime to women s sport (Good). Iris Young builds on this societal imbalance in her
essay Throwing Like a Girl. Young explains how societal structures have a psychological effect on
female performance. She argues that the fact that women cannot throw as far as men is not simply
due to the biomechanical differences between genders but rather

24. Light And Darkness Analysis
Light and Darkness
In John s gospel, it talks about how light represents the good and darkness represents the evil. It
also talks how the light will take over the darkness no matter what. Sometimes it hard to tell
what is the light. For example, in John 3:19 21, it talks about if someone believes the darkness.
Their work will be evil and nonexistent. If someone believes in the light, their work can be seen to
God. It s talking about people s personality how if someone is evil or believe in the darkness. Their
faith will be evil and God won t see any good of that person s faith. If someone is good or believe in
the light, God will see the good things that they do for others because they have a lot of faith.
Choosing Jesus or Rejecting Jesus
In John 1:19 23, it talks about how John had to prove himself that he is the light. He told the
Jews that he was the voice of one crying out in the desert. Some people do believe and some
people don t believe him. In John 1:29 34, John didn t believe Jesus was the son of God, but he
believed there was someone is ranked higher than him. He didn t think it was Jesus. Until, Jesus
said he saw the Spirit coming down. Another example is in John 6:60 71, a lot of Jesus s
disciples didn t accept Jesus so those disciples return back to their life. Even Jesus knew they didn
t believe in him from the start. Only Simon Peter believe in Jesus because Jesus has the guidance
to eternal life so he stayed with Jesus.

Canada is one of the top liberal democracies in the world. A strong liberal democracy allows for
the people to have a voice and be able to start and guide change in the state. An important way for
the people to practice their involvement in change is by challenging the executive or the
legislature when they feel their personal rights have been infringed upon. A common way for
that to be practiced is by raising awareness when an individual feels their rights have been infringed

Introduction Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common endocrine malignancy accounting for 1 %
of cancers worldwide, and its incidence is rising faster than many other cancers, with the highest

are needed. RAI resistant TC, metastatic MTC and ATC represent one of the most appealing
models for biological therapies. Recent years have been characterized by significant advances in
the understanding of the molecular basis of thyroid carcinogenesis. Many tumor initiating genetic

Religion s main drawback is its worry of individual creativeness. Emerson s criticism of society,
and particularly its misguided notion of progress, differs from his earlier comments on the
topic. He debates that society does not essentially improve from material changes, as an
example, advances in technology lead to the loss of some sorts of wisdom: The one that

Are self reliance and being independent two sides of the same coin? This question is more like a
debatable topic where different individual have their own perspectives and views. The first
objective mentioned above deals with self reliance and the second mentioned below matches the
contradictions of independence together with self reliance. There is a clear space of overlapping
however independence is regarding decision making within the condition you are in, whereas self
reliance concerns management of the resources necessary to support significant independence.
Over the past few years self reliance has decreased remarkably throughout the world with the
increase in dependencies of individuals on others and entities. Individuals are getting more and
more cross dependant and reliable on support either in materialistic or moralistic means. Finally to

Recital; a performance of music or poetry, usually given by one person or a small group of

However, rewind the clock 250 years, and you ll find quite a different story. The piano never was

The Pre Lisztian era includes many composers that we pianists consider to be among the most

INTRODUCTION
Aim: Throughout this laboratory we aimed to understand the processes used to achieve the
development of image capture, display, colour processing and finally object tracking. In particular,
we aim to learn the I2C protocols to program the registers used to configure the camera, how to
convert a raw image to a full colour image, detect a selected colour and then track it.
Block Diagrams and images for the image processing steps:
The block diagram in Figure 1, illustrates the processing blocks that were created to being the
image processing steps. It also shows the variables created in the code and how they interact to
produce the initial output of display an image from the camera to the screen. The clock for the
640x480 (frame size 800x525) display image runs at a frequency of 25.2 MHz and the clock for
the camera runs at a frequency of 48.825 MHz to synchronize the display. The I2C setup,
involves using I2C protocols to program registers within the camera. It is a two wire protocol,
where one wire acts as the clock to pass from the FPGA to the device, and the other wire is the data
wire which is bidirectional. The data wire is a top level entity and requires the setup module to have
3 data connections. These are input data from the camera to the controller, output data from the
FPGA controller to the camera and output enable (tristate control), which determines whether the
data is input or output.

Although it seems like the problem of crime and gun violence is never approached or discussed,

Alex Yablon puts it like this in his article on The Trace, saying the lack of progress on the federal
level should not be confused with a lack of proposed solutions to America s gun violence
epidemic there are plenty of those, on both sides of the table. Yablon means there are some bills
that would limit the access to guns as well as bills that would prevent the enforcement of
restrictions on guns. However, he is not the only one to have an opinion of how the government is

solution. Donohue also goes on to say that, the stricter gun laws of other advanced countries have

and radish.Corn and sorghum are monocots and cotton and radish are dicots.
Corn:
Corn is in the grass family known as poaceae
sorghum: sorghum is in the grass family known as poaceae
cotton: cotton is in the mallow family known as the Malvaceae. There are many types of cotton
radish: radish is in the mustard family known as Brassicaceae
Introduction:
For this lab you and your partner were to plant 4 different crops (corn, cotton, sorghum, and a
flower or vegetable of your choice). Radish was the fourth crop chosen to grow. The experiment
was to see the difference in growing stages in all four of these plants in a 10 week period. The
height and growing stage for each plant and seed was to be recorded. This lab is important because
it gives the students the ability to gain hands on experience on growing plants and being able to
identify their structures. Understanding what a plant needs such as: water, soil, fertilizer, and
proper temperature, would allow you to grasp the idea of plant growth and development. Due to us
being in south Texas, the temperature is not always suitable for growing plants. I assumed that the
temperatures would be rather high therefore allowing our plants to grow at a decently fast pace. I

resulting from an interference with the regulation of calcium and phosphate metabolism and
collagen turnover. Glucocorticoid therapy results in an increase in the activity of osteoclasts (which
digest the bone matrix) and a reduction in osteoblast activity (which deposits bone matrix).

Establishing paternity is about a lot more than just a regular child support check. If you are
considering determining paternity, but aren t sure if you should based solely on the financial
benefit, consider the following reasons experts have indicated make establishing paternity in the
best interests of the child. 1.By establishing paternity, you are providing the child with the
opportunity to know and be known by their father. 2.By establishing paternity, you allow your child
to have access to certain legal benefits: the right to benefit financially from the birth father, gain
access to father s medical history, etc. Birth fathers who wish to voluntarily establish paternity in
order to do what is in their child s best interests, can

Valentin was in Jail for not siding with the Brazilian government and trying to use information
against them. Valentin was not alone, in fact most of them were trying to flee from Brazil
because each and every one of them were either escaping, thrown in jail, or murdered and framed
with another reason for their death. Essentially, this was the epic of the rise and fall of Brazilian
populism from 1930 to 1964: Brazil witnessed over the course of this time period the change from
export orientation of the First Brazilian Republic (1889 1930) to the import substitution of the
populist era (1930 1964) and then to a moderate structuralism of 1964 80.[citation needed] Each of
these structural changes forced a realignment in society and caused a period of political crisis.
Period of right wing military dictatorship marked the transition between populist era and the current
period of democratization. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_military_government]. Perhaps
this was the reason behind why Valentin and must of the people that were a part of his group was

To sleeve or not to sleeve
I am tired of telling you teenagers to cover up. All I see these days are you kids wearing
sleeveless dress and tank tops. I don t understand the reason why anyone would dress like that.
There are many benefits in wearing me compared to no half or no sleeved tops as I cover you
painful past, promotes self image and overall health. There is no better way to cover scars, tattoos
and bruises. Also the professionalism maturity portrayed with my presence is very valuable.
Furthermore, I provide many health benefits as I protect from the harmful sun s rays, mosquitoes

such detail to you all the benefits I have. Next time you decide to toss me, think about what
others might think of you as I provide a professional and respectable look and a sense of maturity
for you kids. When you were younger, you probably did a lot of dangerous activities like
tattooing or falling off your bike and getting a scar, I can help conceal those secrets for you
especially the time when you might have been abused which left a deep bruise. Your future
activities as teenagers will involve a lot of going outdoors and exposure to harmful sun radiation
and deadly mosquitoes. Also, I just want you to always remember what I taught you, sneeze into

The Brain s Rewarding System Addiction
Biopsychology
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to examine the article, The Brain s Rewarding System
Addiction (2004) by Katharine P. Bailey, MSN. In this article, I did not find a general hypothesis.
Studies in this article show that most drugs directly or indirectly cause selective elevation of
dopamine levels in the nucleus accumbens (NA), the ventral tegmental area (VTA), and the limbic
system, consequently called the reward center of the brain (Bailey, 2004). Behaviors that bring
pleasure and are also crucial to existence (eating, drinking, and sex) also activate the same reward
circuitry, however, activation of this circuitry by addictive drugs can be much... Show more content

Bailey (2004) used the Substance abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA],
and the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health to gain access to records and reports on
how many Americans were binge drinkers and drug users. It was concluded that an estimated 14
million Americans (in 2004) met the diagnostic criteria for alcohol/drug abuse (Bailey, 2004). She
used this information to compile the data used on the first page of her report to explain that
alcoholism and addiction are devastating problems that many people/families deal with daily.
Discussion Addiction is defined as a chronic brain disease that is characterized by compulsive
drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. In my opinion, compulsive drug use is a
hallmark of addiction, yet a mechanistic understanding of this process has been elusive. Drug use
is initiated primarily to obtain the excitatory actions of addictive drugs on brain reward systems.
The reward pathway evolved to promote activities that are essential to the survival of the human
race as well as other mammals (Bailey 2004). When stimulated by drugs of abuse, addiction often
occurs especially in those who are genetically or otherwise neurochemically vulnerable

51. New England And Chesapeake Colonies Analysis
Starting off as a single colony, the New England colony eventually expanded to form the Middle
colonies, Southern colonies, and the Chesapeake colonies. The Chesapeake and New England
colonies both stemmed from England, but developed in a way that made them each very unique
in the way that they developed. Developing around different intentions, the New England and
Chesapeake colonies were unique due to their different economic and social structures. The social
interactions that the New England and Chesapeake colonies had between Indians and their own
people were very different due to alternate motives. Documents A and H each show the steps
taken in order to achieve social unity. It is obvious that the two colonies didn t have the best
relationship with the Indians, but both colonies had different approaches when it came to mending
relationships. Bacon s Rebellion was a revolt against Governor Berkeley of Virginia in 1676 that
started due to Berkeley s resistance of not fighting against the Indians because of the fur trade. This
showed that the Chesapeake colony would rather take a better economy as opposed to stable social
interactions, Now let us compare these things together and see what sponges have sucked up the
public treasure and whether it has not been privately contrived away by unworthy favorites and
juggling parasites whose tottering fortunes have been repaired and supported at the public charge

Tobacco Everywhere
In todays lifestyle the use of tobacco is everywhere. Even though, smoking and dipping is a type of
choice made by oneself. Tobacco industries try to get many individuals to pick up that bad habit.
Although, the legal age of tobacco use is eighteen many minors have begun to use this product.
With smoking on and off campus no one cannot help but pick up that bad habit.
Tobacco use on and off campus are almost similar. There is a great number of students and some
faculty on campus who use some type of tobacco, even if it is smoking or dipping. The use of
tobacco on or off campus can be harmful to one s body and the earths ozone. A person who uses
tobacco can have many health related issues; such as cancer, strokes or even death. Not to
mention, tobacco smokers could also hand off second hand smoke to nearby nonsmokers
wherever they are, which is just as dangerous to the nonsmokers as it is to the smoker. Smoking
tobacco can also, make the air polluted on and off campus or no matter where you are. Even if
tobacco use is on or off campus cigarette buds, and dip piles could still appear.
Although, tobacco use on campus could be positive or negative. When having a non tobacco free
campus, students and faculty must worry about all types of different problems. One problem is
from smokers. Tobacco use on campus could cause the school more money by having to keep
buying the smoker stations to throw the buds in. Although, there are some smokers who are careless

Investigating a Factor that Affects the Rate of Decent of a Parachute
Aim To investigate one factor that affects the rate of decent of a
parachute.
Plan
There are many factors that affect the rate of decent of a parachute, some of these are: The weight
of the object on the end of a parachute, the weight of the parachute, the length of the strings on the
end of the parachute, the surface area of the parachute, and the shape of the parachute. As we were

area of a parachute affects it s fall. This is how we are going to carry out our experiment:

We will use sellotape to attach the string to the corners of the parachutes, we must be carefull to put
the sellotape on flat so that the binliner doesn t ruckle and turn the parachute into a funny shape so
it affects the results. We measured both the parachutes and the strings using a meter ruler.
Thirdly we will attach a lump of plasticine to the ends of the strings of each parachute. The lump
of plasticine must be put on at exactly the same point on the strings on each parachute so that the
out come isn t affected by the parachutes being pulled down awkwardly or the strings being
longer/shorter so that the parachute touches down quicker/slower. The plasticine should also be
exactly the same mass (5grams) for each parachute because if there is more weight on some of
the parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down faster and if there is less weight on some of
the parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down slower. The plasticine must also be stuck at
the same point on each of the parachute s strings so that the results aren t affected by the parachute
being pulled down awkwardly or the strings don t vary in length.
Once all of the parachutes are made we will drop each parachute from the ceiling, which is 2.5m
