This document summarizes work being done to manage cowpea research data. Germplasm lists and datasets from cowpea trials on drought tolerance and heat tolerance have been loaded into a database. Traits have been ranked, validated, and grouped. The traits and datasets have been loaded into ontologies and a catalogue. Future work includes reformatting additional datasets, loading them, translating trait lists to French, and using various data management tools and platforms. The goal is to create a functional and reliable cowpea database.

- 4. Trait Dictionary •Ranking of Cowpea Traits Completed (50 primary and 86 secondary) show • Validation of Trait Lists completed. All duplicate traits identified and removed or renamed • Primary and Secondary Traits grouped according to class e.g. Agronomic, biotic stress etc. (136 Traits) • All Traits loaded in the database, in Crop Ontology curation tool and submitted for IB Fieldbook • A far cleaner and consistency cowpea database is now maintained www.iita.org

Cross referencing and submission of new terms •Trait lists (methods and scales) to be translated to French Language and CO identifier to be loaded • Synchronisation of database with ontology tool • Continuous update of cowpea database to make it very functional, useful and reliable www.iita.org
