KRONOS Book Review
An irrefutable quality of a strong leader is an unyielding desire to gain knowledge. Former
President John F. Kennedy himself stated that leadership and learning are indispensable to each
other , which can only further the argument of a necessity for a strong education system to
develop a solid base early in a student s life. Amelia Arcamone Makinano brings forth this debate
and discussion in her book KRONOS: All Devouring Federal Reserve, highlighting the profound
implications of the federal government s grip in the educationsystem. In KRONOS , Amelia
Arcamone Makinano wisely asserts that illiteracy and the lack of education in American public
schools has had indirect ties to the state of the country s welfare and handling of the economy....

Amelia Arcamone Makinano brings this issue to light in her extremely informative book
KRONOS: All Devouring Federal Reserve , where she speculates how this very problem has
occurred for nearly 50 years in the United States. She juxtaposes many instances of great leadership
and strong educational reforms throughout moments in history, cementing her belief that the
literacy of citizens can be considerably beneficial to a country s success. Arcamone Makinano
utilizes a structure of example followed by analysis to further her arguments of the present day
crisis of education, while citing the main source of constant problems coming from the Federal
Reserve Board, whose hold on the education system has been depleting the strength of the
American education system. Though a sign of a good leader are the inclination to gain knowledge,
the United States is losing its desire to gain knowledge, which is resulting in an increase in
illiteracy and a problem that will many future generations to

Toubou People
The Toubou people first appeared in the 5th century BC, which is when they took over the range
and turned it into their home. They raised their families, traded their livestock, and harvested their
crops here. The ancient Toubou also painted and engraved beautiful rock art that archeologists later
discovered. Lastly, there are still Touboupeople living in the Tibesti Mountainsto this day.
The Tibesti Mountains, also known as the Tibesti Massif, are extremely dangerous and volcanic
mountains. They extend into northeastern Niger and southern Libya, but they are mostly located in
northwestern Chad. They are about 300 miles long and up to 175 miles wide. With the elevation
being 11,302 , they are the highest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the art found can date from anywhere between 4,000 to 12,000 years or more.
Archaeologists believe that some of the missing rock art could have been up to 33,000 years
old. The animals that were carved or painted were the animals that were hunted or lived in their
nearby are, some of which are now extinct. Some of these animals that are still around today
include hippos, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and even fish. Some of the new paintings include
ostriches and antelope. Another type of engraving they would see often would be owoza, which
were portray warriors, wearing feathers and they were armed with shields and knives. Some
were dance scenes. Some paintings discovered were over 6 feet in height. The art shows the
culture of the ancient people of Chad. During the Pastoral period, the engravings or paintings
showed men herding their cattle or hunting, while the women and children were hanging around
camp. In addition, there was a lot of horse art found, which is some of the most interesting art.
The paintings of the scenes that are more pastoral are painted with a red base because the red
base signifies towards domestication in the Tibesti Mountains. There is so much rock art in the
Tibesti Mountains that archaeologists believe they have only found less than half of the art that
is still out there. Jeremy Curl, an explorer, states, There have only been a handful of expeditions
to the Tibesti in the last hundred years because it is so remote and inaccessible. It s time for a new
one. He took a trip through the Tibesti Mountains to view some of the amazing rock art. There has
been around 200 engraving sights and 100 painting sights discovered. Although the paintings and
engravings have went through time and weathering, you can still see most of the art clearly. Rock
art is still an extremely important part of Toubou people s lives. The reason

German And Irish Immigrants In The 19th Century
German and Irish immigrants made up two of the largest immigrant groups in the 19th century. The
immigration experience of the Germans and Irish shown through Ironweed, Maggie: A Girl of the
Streets, Hold Dear, As Always Jette, Immigrant Voices, and Second Fatherland displayed several
similarities and differences between each group s immigrationexperience. The Germans and Irish
similarly went through Americanization by living in communities made up of their own ethnic
group. Also, the role of women was similar in both communities; women took care of the children
and maintained the house. They both faced serious disease in both of their communities and were
not considered American until later on. However, there were many ways that the German

Why The Act Of Preserving Restoring Historic Structures Is...
This paper will attempt to argue why the act of preserving and restoring historic structures is a
much better option than demolishing them. The essay will use the powerful tool of reliable and
relevant sources to support the essay s claim about historic restoration. In addition, this argument
will present the opposition s claims and why they may or may not be correct in the process of
improving a historic structure. The essay will separate the ideological differences between
demolishing structures and restoring them. Initially, this paper will introduce the main underlying
problem with the opposing argument. Then, the paper will establish two main points as to why the
restoring of these historic structures is a much better option.... Show more content on

Building demolition is never the answer, and restoration will always be the better option. This will
ensure we can save and remember how societies of those who lived before us built their buildings.
Although there are many ways building restoration will always be the better option, one crucial
way is that restoration preserves the cultural identity of a structure, while demolition destroys it. At
this moment, there might be a question raised: What exactly is the cultural identity of a structure or
building? Well, that is actually quite simple. When we speak of historic structures, we typically are
referring to those that are very, very aged structures that have a magnitude of uniqueness to them.
Therefore, reflecting the culture of the time period which they were created in. But, if that historic
structure is demolished, how would that reflected culture ever be remembered? That s just it, it
wouldn t be able to be remembered, and that s where the underlying problem is. Like what I ve just
mentioned, Washington Trust For Historic Preservation stated in their Benefits for Historic
Preservation article, By preserving historic structures, we are able to share the very spaces and
environments in which the generations before us lived. Historic preservation is the visual and
tangible conservation of cultural identity (para. 3). Essentially, demolition results in destruction of
this cultural identity and as I personally

Political Socialization And Arguments Of Political...
The procedure a individuals goes through to acquire political values and attitudes is known as
political socialization. When observing an individual in the process of political socialization,
there are a number of factors that influences the outcome. Family and friends are the primary
agents that affect an individual who is developing their political socialization. Since family
members are the first to influence ideologies for somebody, who is still developing and growing,
they are able to have a direct impact on the development of person experiencing political
socialization. While it is argued that family and friends are the primary agent, others have argued
that the media may have a greater influence. By the reason of mass expansion of media... Show

Starting small, gender is a specific that divides the nation due to the varying perspectives between
men and women. Gender becomes even more complex with the addition of others sexual/gender
preferences that are starting to become more included in American society. The next step up is
religion; it is crucial to understand how it has evolved over the course of our nation s history and
why not everyone is represented. Religion, itself, shares the sample problem with sampling
everyone randomly within a population: both share a varied and complex amount that can create
insignificant data for a sample. Take Christianity for example: if one tried to sample the entire
religion (that contains over thirty thousand different branches and denominations), the data would
be out of date and irrelevant to the goals of the sample in the first place. Not to mention the amount
of data that would only represent a small portion of a sample (ex. small denominations that believe
in extreme views. That is why it s common to see centralized branches of Christianity (Catholicism,
Protestantism, Non denominations, etc.) in samples, instead of a broad category of unconnected
religions in the population. The same can be theoretical for other major religions such as Islam,
Judaism, Buddhism, and

Nt1310 Unit 1 Exercise 1 Activity 2
A sound wave is a disturbance that repeats regularly in space and time and that transmits energy
from one place to another with no transfer of matter. In Activity 2 on page 8 we had to model
sound waves using an instrument. In our class we used a flute as the example and when the person
blew into it, soundwaves were produced. As they blew and changed the volume and pitch the sound
waves changed. A sound waveis created when something vibrates. When something vibrates,
longitudinal waves are created which we can hear. A longitudinal wave is a wave that transfers
energy through compressions and rarefactions in the material that the wave travels which are all
parts of a sound wave. In Activity 2 it states in some parts of the wave, the air molecules... Show

These parts make up the sound waves and they travel through a medium which is the material that
a wave energy travels through. On page 10 in Activity 2 we had to fill out the table on how to
make a louder sound and we learned that to have a louder sound the compressions have to be larger
and to increase the frequency the compressions also had to be larger. When we did the activity
with the slinkies this was the case because when we had more compressions the sound was
louder and the frequency increased. In Activity 1 on page 4 we learned that sound intensity is
how much sound energy passes through a certain area in a certain amount of time as it spreads
out from the source. Decibels are a unit of measure that indicates the relative intensity of a
sound. In Activity 1 on page 5 when we were looking at the table it showed us that as the sound
intensity increases the decibel increases because the decibel measured how intense the sound
was. According to the chart on page 4 the decibels at a quiet library is 40 dB and the relative
intensity is 1000, however if the noise source is some explosions then the decibels is 160 and the
relative intensity is

It is important to note the following when evaluating China s media industry: Public service
television is an essential service to the community and cohesion of democratic societies aimed at the
production, publication and distribution of a set of radio and television channels airing the diverse
and balanced for all audiences, covering all genres and designed to meet information needs, culture,
education and entertainment of Chinese society, spread their identify and cultural diversity,
promote the information society, promoting pluralism, participation and other constitutional values,
ensuring access for significant social and political groups.
Based on the previous module assessments, NBC Universal s preliminary focus should be geared
toward the film industry. The recent trade deal, between both the U.S. and Chinese Governments,
lowered a 20 year old quota on U.S. films and distribution fees in the Chinese film industry. This
signifies productive progression within the film industry, even though small in nature, but
nonetheless this could equate to significant profit gains for all the FMO s within the market.
The following are some of the characteristics that were taken into consideration when evaluating the
best mode of entry. * In depth audit and diagnose strengths and weaknesses of the NBC channels
currently available, to establish improvement plans and the opportunities and threats of new

Life Of Pi Reality Vs Reality Essay
The novel Life of Pi is all about discerning between fact and belief. But which is reality? Yann
Martel, the author of the text, declares that reality is an interpretation, a choice of readings, a
choice of stories. The definition of reality, therefore, is not events which actually occur, but what is
real to an individual. Every person has a different reality, shaped by their experiences, beliefs,
interpretations, readings and stories. In other words, you choose your reality.
In Life of Pi, Pi is always searching for the better story . While Pi is describing agnostics, he
proclaims that they lack imagination and miss the better story (Martel 64) in life. He later inquires
of the men interviewing him, Which is the better story, the story with animals or the story without
animals? (Martel 317) after recounting two versions of his 227 days at sea. The better story is the
story which opens up the mind, the story which provides you with a new way of observing the
world. Being able to see the better story is an act of interpretation and creation. It is how we view
the world and generate meaning from it. In this case, the better story becomes your reality because
it is what is real to you. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An article from the Hermes Reality Creator Series by Tom DeLiso states that you create your
world... the power to change your world rests within yourself within your mind... Thought
creation is a fact of reality, all realities (DeLiso 2001). Michael Brown also claims that You are
entirely the creator of your reality... You create it with your thoughts, feelings and beliefs (Brown
2010). Both of these quotes explain that we have control over and choose our reality, confirming
Martel s idea that reality is our own interpretation and choices of readings and stories. If we choose
our reality, it is made up of stories that have influenced us, as well as our own interpretations and

Reflection In The Poetry Of Emily Dickinson sRoom
From another perspective. Sometimes lost, deep in thoughts, tough emotions and feelings.
Sometimes looking, staring but again not watching something. Sometimes imaging big dreams,
big things distracted in soul visions but never finding anything in reality. Surrounded by same
objects, life, people, big roads, big decisions, choices. We, the people we are unique, we are a
mosaic with rare, colorful pieces. The way we live the life, enjoy the world, see the things makes
us who we are. In dark or light, confident or not, walking or halting. Under the sun s beam, warm
and relieved; under the cold moon and shining stars that fill the black, mysterious, endless
sky, thinking in sadness. Often in reality; rarely in our mind. Every time contemplating the miracles
of the nature. Enjoying the infinite universe with just two finite eyes just enough. Every creature
that can see has a power. And all creatures have another one called the art of seeing vision.
Can we do without the windows of soul eyes?
Can we live with feelings and vision?
This question can have thousands of questions full of emotions. A diversity of thoughts for a theme
that raises contradictions. I think no, you think maybe but what does Dickinson think? What does
the blind poet that feels the world from her room thinks? Some critics have used her life to try to
explain her poetry, and others have tried to explain her life by referring to her poems, which they
assume are autobiographical. Emily Dickinson is a passionate poet that expresses herself without
barriers. With a diamond hard language that reflects light to the dark and hope, inspiration till the
last moment.
Emily Dickinson s poetry speaks powerfully to us. It captures her insights and recreates meaningful
events in living; it helps us to understand and even to re live our own experiences through her
intensity and with her emotional and intellectual clarity. In the first stanza Before she got her eye
put out , the speaker liked as well to see / As other creatures, that have eyes / And know no other

A Comparison of Values in The Rich Brother by Tobias Wolff
In Tobias Wolff s 1985 short story The Rich Brother, we are introduced to two brothers.
According to Wolf, you cannot even tell that they are brothers because of their physical
differences, but as the story goes into more detail we can tell that they are different in every
aspect. One of the major differences is that one is wealthy and the other is always in need of
financial assistance. The older brother, Pete, is a successful real estate agent while his younger
brother, Donald, works as a painter whenever he can. The two brothers are very different in their
belief about what is valuable. Pete is a man that has worked hard and values what he has acquired.
His brother Donald, on the other hand, values sharing whatever he has. Even if... Show more

It has allowed him to have friends that aren t jealous of his wealth. Wolf writes that Pete has
friends doing well enough in their own lives not to wish bad luck on him (391). Donald s value
system is much different. He has a passion for helping people and believes that everyone should
have the same as others. He feels that sharing what you have is honorable and the way it should
be. When Webster, a man they give a ride to, says, Everyone will prosper together. Donald agrees
by saying, That s great. That s the way it ought to be. (399) Not only does Donald believe that
everyone should share, but he has a deep concern with the well being of others. He is more
concerned with the fate of his and everybody else s soul. Wolf states, Donald couldn t content
himself with worrying about his own soul. He had to worry about everyone else s, and
especially Pete s. (391) Donald has a deep feeling that his brother is danger because of the way
he has put money and material things before believing in God. His need to be some sort of
savior has caused him to put his own needs behind the needs of others. He doesn t want much for
himself. When Pete holds five twenties out the window Donald stepped back as if horrified, and
says, I don t need that much (393). He gives everything that he has; he even gives away the money

The Importance Of Body Art
First of all, body art can promote the self awareness of people, which means one focuses attention
on himself and understands personal features, feelings and behaviors. Body art has a strong
impact on human vision and soul, because it can always catch the human nature and embodies the
publicity of human nature (Greif, J., Hewitt, 1999). In fact, the body is the most primitive and
natural expression of human beings, and the art of body is an external form of expression, taking
the human nature as its main feature. Since the body art reflects the nature of human body, it
enables us to see the truest and the most essential things in human society. As Hagel said, the body
of human is the inner life of the spirit . The word spirit is a realm yearns for truth, wisdom,
cognition, beauty and love, which never changes or fades. Therefore, on the one hand, body art
raises individual conscious. This in turn 3 makes people think about themselves more deeply;
understand both themselves and the development of human nature more clearly. Undoubtedly,
human society is able to make a progress by deepening the understanding of human beings. On the
other hand, body art awakens our appreciation of beauty and the greatness of our creator. Other
than showing the external beauty of the human body, body art, indeed serves as an artistic
appreciation. Modern artists borrow the body language to worship, appreciate the natural life of
youth, sing the praises of love and the pursuit of freedom

The Movie Autism
Maureen walked into his head when she looked at his Disney drawing. She was able to know
how he was feeling when he drew his pictures. She caused him to step out of his world and to
interact with others in the class. Once again Disney helped him again with another social hurdle.
Owen began talking to a girl, which is something that he was incapable of controlling his senses.
This was a bridge that was beginning to build with art from Owen s world to the outside world
(Suskind, 2015). This is when he let his families know that he wanted to go to college and he
started at Riverview that is a college life experience. This is also where he was able to meet his
girlfriend and is able to communicate with her by the use of Disney and the help of his older brother.
For many Autist people love is a very hard concept to understand it is not concrete and it is hard to
describe. In the movie Autism in Love it showed the difficulty of letting walls down and trying not
to get hurt or taken advantage of. However, for Owen Disney continues to be his guide he uses the
emotions and directions that he gets from watching these movies. He uses them to let his girlfriend
know that he loves her and that he will spend every day remembering what a treasure she is. He
understands love and understands the important connection to the other person.

board of directors have concluded that the firm must apply state of the art techniques in its
managerial processes as well as in its technological processes. As a first step, the board directed
the financial vice president, Gary Hayes, to develop an estimate for firm s cost of capital and to

The Canadian Retail Market Has A Complex And...
The Canadian retail market has a complex and multidimensional history. Retail Nation:
Department Stores and the Making of Modern Canada written by Donica Belisle, explores the
journeys of major Canadian department stores such as Eaton s, Simpson s and HBC between
the 1890 s and 1940 s. Specifically, she analyzes their development, morals and societal views
from a feminist and paternalist perspective. These complex theories are coupled with both
examples and clear explanations in order to gain a deep insight into the history of the Canadian
retail market. In addition to a brief overview of the book, I will discuss the interest level,
relevance, structure and potential bias within Belisle s work. Canada s department stores
experienced significant success despite entering the retail market much after stores in Great
Britain, France and the United States. After being established in the 1880 s and 90 s, they
experienced rapid growth and eventually surpassed major international stores such as Macys,
Fields and Wanamaker in sales and store size. This national market domination was far more
prominent than anywhere elsewhere in the world (44). Their quick fortune was driven by the
innovative use of catalogues and the opening of numerous branches during their heyday in the early
1900 s. This put primarily Eaton s, but also Simpson s and HBC, in the spotlight as globally
recognized Canadian department stores. These great retail stores had a momentous effect on the

slightest error or mistake can cause chaos to ones body. The mistakes made in essential body
processes, such as homeostasis, can be especially catastrophic. The body systems, or specific
categories that most processes in the body are attributed to, are what must be held to perfection.
The major body systems each play a key role in helping to maintain the internal homeostasis of the
body. To begin with, the four major body systems that deal with life systems, the respiratory,
cardiovascular, and immune system, all play separate roles to maintain homeostasis. The respiratory
systems function is to provide the body with oxygen so that it may use it in other purposes.... Show

The skeletal system, which deals with the body s support and structure, keeps homeostasis by
regulating the calcium supply in the bones. By doing this, out bones stay as healthy and as
strong as possible. The muscular system, which is attached to the skeletal system, deals with the
body s movement. One way the muscular system maintains homeostasis is by sweating. If the
body gets to hot and needs to cool down, it produces sweat which allows the skin cool down.
Next, comes the endocrine system. This system is a collection of glands, which produce
hormones to basically regulate a range of processes including sleep, sexual functions, growth and
even development. It maintains homeostasis by making sure the correct amount of hormones are
released, for example, if there is an insufficient amount, then more will be released and vice versa.
This system works closely with the reproductive system. The reproductive system is the body s
sex organs and helps in the reproduction of humans. It maintains its homeostasis in different ways
for both men and women. For men, on cold days, the testes will retract so they are closer to the
body to stay warm. On a hot day, the opposite happens. For women, the menstrual cycle is a
carefully balanced system, which helps to regulate the times at which the body is most

Reform Malpractice Laws to Create True Healthcare Reform...
Mr. X, you ve been diagnosed with... These words are spoken in hospitals around the country
every day and each time they are spoken, a line is drawn between doctor and patient. On one
side is the doctor wondering if enough has been done to defend against being sued for
malpractice. On the other side is the patient with a need for someone to blame for his or her
condition and seeing the doctor as the sole reason for any injured state. This division between
doctor and patient has led to a practice called defensive medicineand it has also created a healthcare
system riddled with inefficiency and in need of an overhaul. There is talk of healthcare reform and
how it is important to control costs to the patient through lower health... Show more content on

The United States legal system exists with many favorable conditions for filing malpractice
lawsuits, including low burden of proof requirements, lax limits on damage awards, and the lack of
a cost sharing provision on filing a legal action.
Impact of Defensive Medicine
The same World Health Organization presentation details the cost of medical litigation rising
from $3 billion per year to $24 billion per year between 1975 and 2002 (Dietrich, 2005, pg. 27).
The amounts awarded in medical lawsuits have an impact on healthcare delivery in the form of
increased insurance costs to the consumer and doctor, or a reduction in services to help cover the
cost of litigation. A survey conducted by the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) asked 900
physicians if they had practiced defensive medicine procedures. Eighty three percent of the
doctors reported that they had ordered defensive procedures an average of 18 to 28 percent of the
time. They also indicated they had ordered hospitalizations about 13 percent of the time to avoid
potential lawsuits. The MMS estimates that the excess procedures cost the state at least $1.4 billion
a year, and the group believes that amount is an underestimate due to only 46 percent of doctors in
the state participating in the survey (Gulla, 2008).

Civil Service Reform Paper
Introduction
Civil service in the United States has a long and complex history. Civil service rules govern how
public employees are hired, promoted and fired. This paper will focus on the selection politics of
public personnel systems as divided in three time periods, the spoils era, the reform era, and
representative bureaucracy. It will discuss the major civil service reforms throughout history in the
Unites States and examine the role that politics and the environment play as an element of civil
service reform in the public sector organizations. The paper will also touch on a number of
institutions and players that play a role in the formulation of public personnel policy and some
implications that they bring in the long run. Some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of system is usually initiated by government, or as a result of pressure groups and
lobbyists campaigning for a particular disadvantaged group. It is usually found where disparities
and imbalances in employment exist as a result of discriminatory practices on the basis of race and
color, gender, disability, or any other unfair grounds not related to the job. The Civil Rights Act of
1964, as stated by Desario and Slack, outlawed discrimination in public accommodations, voting,
education, employment, and the utilization of public funds (Farazmand 2007, 355). The Equal
Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 which extended the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requirements
and it s commission was established to enforce Title VII, the employment section of the Act, and the
Office of Federal Contract Compliance to enforce the nondiscrimination requirements applied to
government contractors (Farazmand 2007, 355) on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, or
national origin. Desario and Slack argue that following the intent of the Fourteenth Amendment,
affirmative action meant public policies that afforded individuals opportunity without
discrimination. (Farazmand, 2007, 356). Later on President Kennedy used the term affirmative
action in context with racial discrimination and therefore, the goal of affirmative action would shift
from equality of opportunity to equality of outcome (Farazmand, 2007, 357). Affirmative Action is
a highly controversial policy. Its guidelines and policies have resulted in many important changes in
the selection process. They have forced public jurisdictions and public personnel professionals to
carefully examine existing selection procedures and adapt them to the requirements of affirmative
action (Rosenbloom, 1985,

William Shakespeare: King Henry V
Though William Shakespeare: King Henry V may not be one of the best of his plays, through the
protagonist King Henry V he depicts an ideal image that leaders should seek religious guidance
from religious leaders in the quest to rule. This is to provide guidance in their leadership and rule.
Various scenes in the play are constructed to illustrate King Henry VChristian character like mercy,
caring for the poor and his sense of justice which is experienced in the way he deals with prisoners
(Stephen). Furthermore, King Henry V religious nature is depicted throughout the play. This is

This aspect helps to mold him to his future triumphs as a famous leader. In addition to that, His
childhood experiences help build his morals and instill his Christian values (Stephen). Also, Henry
V youth helps him develop a good relationship with his soldiers because he is used to talking with
everyone. William Shakespeare uses the character of Henry V to provide insight to people that
leaders should maintain a pure relationship with the people they rule. Through this, Leaders build
and live in a harmonious state. Therefore, drawing from this play, leaders should not raise their
identity once they assume power and forget about their past friends. Leaders when rising to fame
and popularity, should keep hold of their humble upbringing together with their longtime friends.
This helps them remember their personal lives and have a touch of the common citizen. Moreover,
the play emphasizes on the impact that King Henry V had to his soldiers, and despite the play not
showing numerous occasion when King Henry was in the battle, his vivid contribution and effort
are recognizable throughout. William Shakespeare illustrates Henry V as an inspiration to soldiers
and people as he helps them rise to larger ranks and attain more significant achievements (William,

Paulo Freire Essay
The Private Liberation
Paulo Freire introduces the idea of a problem posing education system in his book The Pedagogy of
the Oppressed, which offers a highly effective alternative to the traditional method of memorizing
facts that he deems the banking concept of education. Problem posing allows individuals to expand
their own thoughts, ideas, and opinions through open discussion in a classroom setting. I went
through such an experience senior year in my Comparative Government class, which focused on
different governments along with the key social and economic issues they face. While many may
argue that the banking concept has some value in certain issues, the alternative in problem posing
offers a broader experience in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject of government is engrained in peoples minds as being a history subject but the class
showed that in reality it is a living, changing, and expanding subject. Freire describes this loss of
meaning in the first page when he says ...Contents which are detached from reality, disconnected
from totality that engendered them and could give them significance. Words are emptied of their
concreteness and become a hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity (318). A banking education
class would have had students sitting in straight rows staring at the white board fiercely copying
every single detail that the teacher wrote down about each of the governments, and in the minds of
the students these would be concrete unchanging situations. If someone were to come into a
discussion that the class was having, while wearing a blindfold, it would be a difficult task to
identify the instructor of the course because each student had a new and different perspective on
the article. The teacher, although presumed to have more knowledge than all of us as students,
never exerted his own thoughts and ideas as authoritative and absolute but offered ideas and
perspective the same way that each student brought their own opinions to the table. The focus was

Sweatshop Exploitation And Responsibility Of Sweatshops
Gabrielle Chan

Sweatshop Exploitation and Responsibility
Sweatshops were first well known to the public eye when several major corporations exploitation of
workers were revealed during the late twentieth century. Sweatshops generally are factories that
provide workers with socially unacceptable working conditions, especially dealing with clothing
items. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are
using sweatshop factories to their advantage. Numerous companies claim that they are not
responsible for actions of those factories from which they purchase from because it is not part of
their corporation. However, action needs to be taken by the government and individual
corporations to improve the working conditions in sweatshop factories. Due to the harsh working
environment, insufficient pay, and other factors that cause inhumane treatment of workers in
sweatshops, the US government should improve working conditions for workers, have stricter
regulations on sweatshops, and strive to improve the treatment of sweatshop workers across the
globe. Sweatshop proponents argue that even though sweatshops may not provide the best
working conditions for workers, it at least provides a job for those who are in desperate need of
one. In a way, a sweatshop may even benefit the workers. The money the workers earn from
working in the sweatshop factory may be the deciding factor in whether they have food

The Progressive Era And The New Deal
Despite existing during two different times in the history of the United States, it can be argued
that the New Deal reforms reflected the reform traditions of the Progressive Era. When examining
the New Deal, Progressive influence is evident based first off of the social and political issues
addressed by reforms. Second, the reforms from the two times themselves are uncannily similar,
again due to the focus on the same problems existing in the United States. In addition to this, the
icing on the cake is found when examining President Roosevelt s administration during the New
Deal, a majority of which were intelligent Progressive reformers during the Progressive Era.

know from the aforementioned information, both the Progressive Era and New Deal had a focus
on similar issues, specifically the rights of laborers, the improvement and expansion of public
facilities, and the limitations of corporate power. Reforms during the Progressive era reflected these
values, as seen in the work accomplished by Samuel Jones, President Taft, and President Wilson.

The Civil Rights Movement vs. The Black Liberation...
On The Duty of Civil Disobedience, written by Henry David Thoreau, explains that civil
disobedience is the act of standing for your beliefs even though they are against the law. Thoreau
goes on to say that the government (because it is ruled by the majority) is not always right for
everyone especially the individual and the minority. Over the course of American history, there
have been many different groups formed for the purpose of civil disobedience. The two that I am
going to focus on are the activists of the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Panthers of the
Black Liberation Movement. The Civil Rights Movement began in 1954 with the case of Brown

Black Americans. The activists of the Civil Rights Movement were protesting for things like the
integration of schools and other public places, and equal rights under the law. Martin Luther King
was striving for his people to be seen and treated as equals to their white counterparts. The protest
would mostly consist of sit ins, marching, and boycotting. The activists of this movement preached
non violence and peaceful protest. For example, during many sit ins the police would get involved.
Usually this meant violence, but not by the civil rights activists who were taught not to retaliate.
The protestors would take brutal beatings and do nothing in return (Small). On the other hand is
the Black Liberation movement, which was headed by the Black Panthers. This movement leaned
more towards black separation in order to form their own equal communities. The Panthers
believed that Black Americans would never be equals in a white world and therefore they must
form their own. Not only did the Black Liberation Movement believe in separation, they also
believed that aggression was needed to reach this goal. In the official Black Panther Party Platform

Importance Of Writing My Book
Growing up you could not find a bigger bookworm then myself. I read small books to big books,
books on the study of animals, plants, or just plain old novels. I have always had a passion for
learning new things from educational books or just reading a new exciting story in every novel
I picked up. I have a multitude of fond memories of books I read and lessons I learned, but one
instance I consider more impactful than the others. This moment came when my 6th grade English
teacher helped me write my own book. It may sound crazy that a mere 6th grader is attempting to
write a book, but at the time it was a huge deal to me. I have had many hobbies throughout my life
and find myself consistently picking up new hobbies. In 6th grade however my biggest hobby was
writingand storytelling. As a 6th grader I was young and had a strong love for superheroes. This
often prompted me to make my own comic books and create my own unique superheroes.
Throughout class many students would watch me not only write these comic books but draw
them and put them together. Many were fascinated but many were also degrading towards it.
Despite some hostile feelings I continued to make them and continued to sell them around the
school to those who wanted my comic books. One day while I was drawing the cover for the
superhero I created known as Super Smith , and yes, the superhero was created to be a

Essay about Role Reversal in King Lear
Role Reversal in King Lear
King Lear, known as one of Shakespeare s greatest tragedies, deeply affects its audience by
playing out the destruction of two families. At the end of this play two of the protagonists, King
Lear and his loyal friend the Earl of Gloucester, die after having suffered through major injustices at
the hands of their own children. These characters deaths are incredibly tragic because they are
brought on by their own actions instead of by the circumstances that surround them. Lear and
Gloucester are not bad men but rather good men that make the fatal mistake of not acting according
to their positions in life. In doing so, they ultimately force their children, Cordelia and Edgar
respectively, to take on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1985 production of this play starring Lawrence Olivier, Lear enters the opening scene
lovingly arm in arm with Cordelia. He then sits on his throne and has a large map of his kingdom
spread out on the floor before him. When he utters the words in 1.1.155, he unceremoniously
throws his crown onto the ground in the middle of the map. I thought this was excellent stage
direction because in this one movement he sets the tone for the problems that will come as a result
of his unthinking action.
Much like Lear, Gloucester opens the play by shunning his role that of a father. He embarrasses
his illegitimate son, Edmund, when he says to Kent I have so often blushed to acknowledge
him that now I am brazed to t (1.1.10 11). He then goes on to minimize his affection for his
legitimate son, Edgar, by saying that he . . . is no dearer in my account (1.1.20 21). A father has
two choices regarding a child conceived through an affair; he can either deny the child s existence
or accept the child into his family as one of his own. Gloucester lamely attempts both with
Edmund. In addition, his comment about Edgar send a mixed message regarding the son he
considers his heir. In the Olivier version of this play, the stage direction has Edmund standing
nearby while Gloucester converses with Kent. When Gloucester speaks the words in 1.1.10 11, he
throws his arm around Edmund s shoulder and laughingly taps him on the chest. The stage direction
here works well because the

After this was done, one had to click on the spacebar to start the experiment. The word was shown

Benefits Of Supply Induced Demand
The graph below is an illustration of Reinhardt fee test that argues that supply induced demand
is identified when despite an increase in supply (S1 to S2), demand increases sufficiently (D1 to
D3) cause price rise (P1 to P3). Had there been no supply induced demand, an increase in supply
would have resulted in lowering of price (P1 to P2). As can be predicted, not only does this
method raise costs and threatens long term sustainability of the healthcare system, it discourages
the efficiencies of integrated care. Any referral to another health professional equates to loss of
income for the doctors and reduces the quality of healthcare. As figure 1 shows, despite having
one of the highest healthcare expenditures per capita, Canada ranks 10th out of 11 developed
countries in terms of quality of its healthcare system. Canada being one of the largest countries in
the world, faces a unique challenge of geographic distribution of doctors. The remote and rural
areas have low population density and because the FFS mechanism relies on volume of patients
that a doctor attends to, it influences their distribution with a higher number settled in high density
areas. The disadvantages of the FFS payment model coupled with poor performance of the
Canadian healthcare system compared to its global counterparts does necessitate a call to address
the payment model to reimburse doctors. Not only will this help to improve the quality but also

The European Recovery Program Of The United States Essay
Left as one of the only remaining major powers, not significantly devastated by World War II,
the United States of America lit the beacon of humanitarian aid. At its own discretion, after the
Soviet Union s refusal of America s extent of influence and relief in the European continent, the
U.S. was free to do as it pleased regarding attempts of foreign assistance. Secretary of State in the
U.S. at the time, George Marshall, proposed the Marshall Plan , originally called the European
Recovery Program , in June of 1947, during his speech at Harvard University. Marshall s
argument was to provide 13 billion U.S. dollars, about 5% of the American gross domestic
product during that period, to European nations to bail them out of their continental crisis post
World War II. The plan was in operation for four years, rebuilding war terrorized countries with
several goals put in place by the United States. America would take on the responsibility to rebuild
their economies, rebuild their currency, and foster a free and open trade between European and
U.S. economies. Aid provided by major powers usually involves some level of self interest,
benefiting the donors as well as the needs of those in less fortunate situations. The Marshall Plan
was set in motion with the idea that, if successful, the U.S. would become better off in the long
term, creating new markets for American goods and flourishing the economy back home. Funds
used within the European continent required agreement and

The Pauline Epistles I Essay
Our source of knowledge of the apostolic work of Paul comes first from the Book of Acts. The
epistles written by Paul serve to further our knowledge of his mission. These letters were written to
churches that he had founded or churches that were known to him. Luke s account of Paul
introduces us to the basic facts about this important biblical figure. A more complete understanding
of Paul s journeys can be gleaned from his letters. These epistles were written almost at the time
they occurred and they comprise some of the earliest works contained in the New Testament. These
letters had already been written when Luke wrote the Book of Acts, but a close reading indicates
that they are independent of one another. Paul wrote letters to... Show more content on

the author. Saul of Tarsus was a Jewish official a Pharisee. Saul was a persecutor of Christians

Introduction
The concept of urban sustainable development emerged in the twentieth century. Development is

In addition, this argument will present the opposition s claims and why they may or may not be correct in the process of improving a historic structure. Building demolition is never the answer, and restoration will always be the better option. This will ensure we can save and remember how societies of those who lived before us built their buildings. Although there are many ways building restoration will always be the better option, one crucial way is that restoration preserves the cultural identity of a structure, while demolition destroys it. At this moment, there might be a question raised: What exactly is the cultural identity of a structure or building? Well, that is actually quite simple. When we speak of historic structures, we typically are referring to those that are very, very aged structures that have a magnitude of uniqueness to them. Therefore, reflecting the culture of the time period which they were created in. But, if that historic structure is demolished, how would that reflected culture ever be remembered? That s just it, it wouldn t be able to be remembered, and that s where the underlying problem is. Like what I ve just mentioned, Washington Trust For Historic Preservation stated in their Benefits for Historic Preservation article, By preserving historic structures, we are able to share the very spaces and environments in which the generations before us lived. Historic preservation is the visual and tangible conservation of cultural identity (para. 3). Essentially, demolition results in destruction of this cultural identity and as I personally ... In Activity 2 on page 8 we had to model sound waves using an instrument. In our class we used a flute as the example and when the person blew into it, soundwaves were produced. As they blew and changed the volume and pitch the sound waves changed. A sound waveis created when something vibrates. When something vibrates, longitudinal waves are created which we can hear. Yann Martel, the author of the text, declares that reality is an interpretation, a choice of readings, a choice of stories. The definition of reality, therefore, is not events which actually occur, but what is real to an individual. Every person has a different reality, shaped by their experiences, beliefs, interpretations, readings and stories. In other words, you choose your reality. In Life of Pi, Pi is always searching for the better story . While Pi is describing agnostics, he proclaims that they lack imagination and miss the better story (Martel 64) in life. He later inquires of the men interviewing him, Which is the better story, the story with animals or the story without animals? (Martel 317) after recounting two versions of his 227 days at sea. The better story is the story which opens up the mind, the story which provides you with a new way of observing the world. Being able to see the better story is an act of interpretation and creation. • 12. The Importance Of Body Art First of all, body art can promote the self awareness of people, which means one focuses attention on himself and understands personal features, feelings and behaviors. Body art has a strong impact on human vision and soul, because it can always catch the human nature and embodies the publicity of human nature (Greif, J., Hewitt, 1999). In fact, the body is the most primitive and natural expression of human beings, and the art of body is an external form of expression, taking the human nature as its main feature. Since the body art reflects the nature of human body, it enables us to see the truest and the most essential things in human society. As Hagel said, the body of human is the inner life of the spirit . The word spirit is a realm yearns for truth, wisdom, cognition, beauty and love, which never changes or fades. Therefore, on the one hand, body art raises individual conscious. This in turn 3 makes people think about themselves more deeply; understand both themselves and the development of human nature more clearly. Undoubtedly, human society is able to make a progress by deepening the understanding of human beings. On the other hand, body art awakens our appreciation of beauty and the greatness of our creator. Retail Nation: Department Stores and the Making of Modern Canada written by Donica Belisle, explores the journeys of major Canadian department stores such as Eaton s, Simpson s and HBC between the 1890 s and 1940 s. Specifically, she analyzes their development, morals and societal views from a feminist and paternalist perspective. These complex theories are coupled with both examples and clear explanations in order to gain a deep insight into the history of the Canadian retail market. In addition to a brief overview of the book, I will discuss the interest level, relevance, structure and potential bias within Belisle s work. Canada s department stores experienced significant success despite entering the retail market much after stores in Great Britain, France and the United States. After being established in the 1880 s and 90 s, they experienced rapid growth and eventually surpassed major international stores such as Macys, Fields and Wanamaker in sales and store size. This national market domination was far more prominent than anywhere elsewhere in the world (44). Their quick fortune was driven by the innovative use of catalogues and the opening of numerous branches during their heyday in the early 1900 s. This put primarily Eaton s, but also Simpson s and HBC, in the spotlight as globally recognized Canadian department stores. These great retail stores had a momentous effect on the Canadian ... The mistakes made in essential body processes, such as homeostasis, can be especially catastrophic. The body systems, or specific categories that most processes in the body are attributed to, are what must be held to perfection. The major body systems each play a key role in helping to maintain the internal homeostasis of the body. To begin with, the four major body systems that deal with life systems, the respiratory, cardiovascular, and immune system, all play separate roles to maintain homeostasis. The respiratory systems function is to provide the body with oxygen so that it may use it in other purposes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The skeletal system, which deals with the body s support and structure, keeps homeostasis by regulating the calcium supply in the bones. By doing this, out bones stay as healthy and as strong as possible. The muscular system, which is attached to the skeletal system, deals with the body s movement. One way the muscular system maintains homeostasis is by sweating. If the body gets to hot and needs to cool down, it produces sweat which allows the skin cool down. Next, comes the endocrine system. This system is a collection of glands, which produce hormones to basically regulate a range of processes including sleep, sexual functions, growth and even development. It maintains homeostasis by making sure the correct amount of hormones are released, for example, if there is an insufficient amount, then more will be released and vice versa. This system works closely with the reproductive system. The reproductive system is the body s sex organs and helps in the reproduction of humans. It maintains its homeostasis in different ways for both men and women. For men, on cold days, the testes will retract so they are closer to the body to stay warm. On a hot day, the opposite happens. For women, the menstrual cycle is a carefully balanced system, which helps to regulate the times at which the body is most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States legal system exists with many favorable conditions for filing malpractice lawsuits, including low burden of proof requirements, lax limits on damage awards, and the lack of a cost sharing provision on filing a legal action. Impact of Defensive Medicine The same World Health Organization presentation details the cost of medical litigation rising from $3 billion per year to $24 billion per year between 1975 and 2002 (Dietrich, 2005, pg. 27). The amounts awarded in medical lawsuits have an impact on healthcare delivery in the form of increased insurance costs to the consumer and doctor, or a reduction in services to help cover the cost of litigation. A survey conducted by the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) asked 900 physicians if they had practiced defensive medicine procedures. Eighty three percent of the doctors reported that they had ordered defensive procedures an average of 18 to 28 percent of the time. They also indicated they had ordered hospitalizations about 13 percent of the time to avoid potential lawsuits. Sweatshop Exploitation And Responsibility Of Sweatshops Gabrielle Chan Bass Humanities 3rd Blue 12 November 2014 Sweatshop Exploitation and Responsibility Sweatshops were first well known to the public eye when several major corporations exploitation of workers were revealed during the late twentieth century. Sweatshops generally are factories that provide workers with socially unacceptable working conditions, especially dealing with clothing items. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are using sweatshop factories to their advantage. Numerous companies claim that they are not responsible for actions of those factories from which they purchase from because it is not part of their corporation. However, action needs to be taken by the government and individual corporations to improve the working conditions in sweatshop factories. Due to the harsh working environment, insufficient pay, and other factors that cause inhumane treatment of workers in sweatshops, the US government should improve working conditions for workers, have stricter regulations on sweatshops, and strive to improve the treatment of sweatshop workers across the globe. Sweatshop proponents argue that even though sweatshops may not provide the best working conditions for workers, it at least provides a job for those who are in desperate need of one. The word was shown on the screen and one had to click on the color of the word. This was done until the final word for both trials. • 36. Benefits Of Supply Induced Demand The graph below is an illustration of Reinhardt fee test that argues that supply induced demand is identified when despite an increase in supply (S1 to S2), demand increases sufficiently (D1 to D3) cause price rise (P1 to P3). Had there been no supply induced demand, an increase in supply would have resulted in lowering of price (P1 to P2). As can be predicted, not only does this method raise costs and threatens long term sustainability of the healthcare system, it discourages the efficiencies of integrated care. Any referral to another health professional equates to loss of income for the doctors and reduces the quality of healthcare. As figure 1 shows, despite having one of the highest healthcare expenditures per capita, Canada ranks 10th out of 11 developed countries in terms of quality of its healthcare system. Canada being one of the largest countries in the world, faces a unique challenge of geographic distribution of doctors. The remote and rural areas have low population density and because the FFS mechanism relies on volume of patients that a doctor attends to, it influences their distribution with a higher number settled in high density areas. The disadvantages of the FFS payment model coupled with poor performance of the Canadian healthcare system compared to its global counterparts does necessitate a call to address the payment model to reimburse doctors. Not only will this help to improve the quality but also help contain costs and enable viability of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The European Recovery Program Of The United States Essay Left as one of the only remaining major powers, not significantly devastated by World War II, the United States of America lit the beacon of humanitarian aid. At its own discretion, after the Soviet Union s refusal of America s extent of influence and relief in the European continent, the U.S. was free to do as it pleased regarding attempts of foreign assistance. Secretary of State in the U.S. at the time, George Marshall, proposed the Marshall Plan , originally called the European Recovery Program , in June of 1947, during his speech at Harvard University. Marshall s argument was to provide 13 billion U.S. dollars, about 5% of the American gross domestic product during that period, to European nations to bail them out of their continental crisis post World War II. The plan was in operation for four years, rebuilding war terrorized countries with several goals put in place by the United States. America would take on the responsibility to rebuild their economies, rebuild their currency, and foster a free and open trade between European and U.S. economies. Aid provided by major powers usually involves some level of self interest, benefiting the donors as well as the needs of those in less fortunate situations. The Marshall Plan was set in motion with the idea that, if successful, the U.S. would become better off in the long term, creating new markets for American goods and flourishing the economy back home. Funds used within the European continent required agreement and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The epistles written by Paul serve to further our knowledge of his mission. These letters were written to churches that he had founded or churches that were known to him. Luke s account of Paul introduces us to the basic facts about this important biblical figure. A more complete understanding of Paul s journeys can be gleaned from his letters. These epistles were written almost at the time they occurred and they comprise some of the earliest works contained in the New Testament. These letters had already been written when Luke wrote the Book of Acts, but a close reading indicates that they are independent of one another. Paul wrote letters to... It was perhaps a reference used to prove that he wrote the letter and that it was not forged. Speculation points to a physical ailment such as bad eyesight but that seems unlikely considering other scripture. PAUL S BACKGROUND An examination of the Pauline epistles should begin with an examination of the author. Saul of Tarsus was a Jewish official a Pharisee. Saul was a persecutor of Christians and an eyewitness to the stoning of Steven. And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man s feet, whose name was Saul. (Acts 7.58 King James Version) He had a vision on the road to Damascus and was blinded. God sent Ananias to heal Saul of his affliction. God also sent Paul a vision of Ananias to let him know that he would be healed. Paul did not learn the Gospel from other men. He received his knowledge directly from Jesus.Paul is developing and spreading the doctrine of the Church in his letters.
