The picaresque novel is the genre of
prose fiction that depicts the adventures of
a roguish hero/ heroine of low social class
who lives by his or her wits in corrupt
society

First person narration
Main character is often of low character or
low social class
No plot but stories in series
Circumstances change but picaro is
always picaro

- Tom humiliated by family and society
- According to his teacher
Tom is wild and Blifil is pious
