An ultrasound technician, also known as a sonographer, uses ultrasound equipment to produce images of internal organs and diagnose medical conditions. Sonographers perform ultrasound procedures, take sonograms, and work in hospitals, diagnostic labs, outpatient centers, and clinics. Other related jobs include cardiovascular technician, cytotechnologist, medical imaging technician, and nuclear medicine technologist. A radiologist is a doctor who uses medical imaging technologies like X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, PET scans, ultrasound and nuclear imaging to diagnose and treat illnesses. Radiologists may specialize in areas like angiography, fluoroscopy, mobile radiography, or trauma radiography.

WHAT IS ULTRASOUND TECHNICIAN? • An Ultrasound Technician, also known as a Sonographer, work with equipment that directs very high frequency sound waves into the body tissues to produce images or pictures of internal organs, diseased masses, and fetuses.
JOB DESCRIPTION • Uses special equipment to capture images of internal body • Perform ultrasound procedures • Takes sonograms of body parts • Sonograms used to diagnose/treat a variety of medical conditions

DIFFERENT SPECIALIZATION OF MEDICAL IMAGING TECHNOLOGIST • Angiography: imaging of blood vessels and the heart • Fluoroscopy: an X-ray test that examines the internal body and shows moving images on a screen • Mobile radiography: using special scanners for patients who are too sick to travel • Operating rooms: working in the OR to assist surgeons with special X- ray equipment during operations • Trauma radiography: working in emergency rooms.
