 Both men believe in Total War- important to
also fight the civilian population
 - They destroyed everything in their paths,
as the strength of the people kept the war
going (food, weapons, goods)

 VII. Confederate Surrender
 A. Jefferson Davis abandoned Richmond, VA
 Ordered it to be burned so Union could not
take the city
