What is Internet? • The Internet is a computer network made up of thousands of networks worldwide. • Internet is the world’s largest computer network, the network of networks, scattered all over the world. • Internet has been coined from two terms, interconnection and network.
How was Internet developed? • Internet was born in late 1960’s • The internet has its root in the ARPANET system of the Advanced Research Project Agency of U.S. Department of Defense which linked together mainframe computers to form a communication networks. • ARPANET is known as the forefather of internet.
Uses of Internet 1. Social Networking – Provides medium for people to connect and interact with each other. – Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Instagram, Google+ (positive addiction or negative addiction)
2. Communication – Chat and video chat – Chat with your contacts directly within Gmail. – You can even talk face-to-face with built-in video chat. – Interact with peers, experts, and other audiences – Online submission of assignments and file sharing
3. Career Development – Many students use the internet to either start planning their careers, or furthering their careers. – Many websites exist to help a student decide on college courses that fit their expected careers.
4. Videos. – Broadcast yourself! – Tutorials from where people can learn more effectively and innovatively than books. 5. Publish yourself. – People want to publicize their work so that its reaches maximum number of people.
6. Education. – There are a number of books, reference books, online help centres, expert’s views and other study oriented material on the internet. – Distance learning.
7. Research – Gathering, analyzing and sharing information – The Internet is a wealth of information and is one of the best ways to find information fast and efficiently.
8. Updated on the latest news. – the news and other happenings that may be on-going in different parts of the world – Updates in every field. (sports, politics etc)
9. Financial Transactions - Internet Banking - Payment of Bills - more cyber crime -more security More Devices Bigger Network More Crime More Security
