This document discusses moral responsibility and being moral beings. It defines moral decency as following accepted moral standards and opposing what is unjust. It emphasizes that we are morally responsible for both our actions and failures to act, and that we should consider how our actions affect others. The document also discusses religious concepts like the Golden Rule and uses a scenario about a man named Heinz to discuss making morally difficult decisions. It encourages maintaining good relationships and considering others to live responsibly.
5. MORAL DECENCY
A distinguishing characteristic that separates humans
from animals
People tend to follow accepted moral standards thus
uphold what is honorable and just and oppose what is
shameful and unjust
Measures our moral response to situations and
conditions we are in
Our “moral compass” that affects a person’s activities,
both personal and communal
6. “
The expression of our moral responsibility is
reflected in our behavior toward each other
and the rest of God’s creation.
We are judged by both Man and God based
on our actions and how we treat others.
Therefore, we must strive to have a good
understanding of our moral obligations in
order to live peacefully with ourselves and
other people.
7. Being MORALLY RESPONSIBLE
means knowing (and doing) what is
considered as good behavior and avoiding
what is deemed as wrong.
8. We become
morally responsible
for what we act on or
what we fail to act on.
This means that we are accountable for
whatever we do. And because we are expected
to have already developed our moral sensitivities
and good sense of judgment, it is expected of us
to always consider the good and welfare of
others as well as our accountability to God when
we do something or leave something undone.
9. Our moral responsibility
becomes clear when we
consider not only our own
lives but also the lives of others
around us. To think only about
ourselves and our own interest is a
selfish way to live.
Remember, our moral responsibility is not
directed only to us but, most importantly,
also to the society that we live in.
13. While there might be numerous ways of
saying the Golden Rule or the ethic of
reciprocity, what is common and
universal among them is the concept that
we must treat our fellowmen with
kindness, fairness, respect, and justice.
We should relate to others in ways which
we ourselves want to be treated.
