Universal Pre-K Program Currently a grant program in the NYS Budget Of the 128 Long Island Districts only 51 accessed the grant 15 half day classes in all buildings  All certified teachers serving 212 students All families interested in UPK included HHH one of five districts to have UPK in district buildings
Future of UPK NYS Budget – hopefully early childhood education will continue to be included. HHH will apply for and use all funds offered by NYSED. Reach CYA continues to be an excellent collaborating partner  Information will be distributed throughout the district beginning in February 2009 in reference to 2009-2010 process.

Elementary Report Card Purpose Align assessment reporting with NYS Standards. Provide teachers with the ability to communicate the assessment of individual skills within a curriculum area. Further define learning and social behaviors. Report student progress on the concepts and skills taught each quarter. Provide more specific information about special areas. Promote student learning.
The report card is divided into academic curriculum areas, learning and social behaviors and special areas.  The report card uses a holistic scale of 1-4 to indicate progress on the grade level standards each quarter. Performance Levels are based upon multiple assessment evidence.  Performance Level assessment is based on the content, concepts, and skills taught for that quarter.  Some students might achieve a 3 or 4 in the first quarter and then achieve a 2 in the second. Performance Level Descriptors
Academic, Learning and Social Behavior Skills Academic - each curriculum area is broken down into content skills aligned with NYS Standards and District Curriculum. Learning and Social Behaviors – ability to evaluate non-academic skills that are an integral part of the learning process. KEY C onsistently,  O ften,  I nconsistently,  N ot yet
Effort One of the characteristics of a successful learner is effort!  Effort, attitude and discipline are not included in the teacher’s determination of the  Performance Level   but are communicated using: E xcellent effort,  G ood effort,  S atisfactory effort,  M ore effort needed
Teacher Comments Personalizes report, make connections with families to Celebrate growth. Indicate strategies worked on that quarter. Note work that will take place in the following quarter. Reference learning and social behaviors. Offer suggestions to parents to help their child at home.
