2. Socrates Tragedy
An Innocent Tragedy
The trial of Socrates is well known throughout the modern world. It is a historical event that ties
together philosophy, literature, and law. However, do we stop to consider whether or not Socrates was
truly guilty of the crimes he was accused with. I believe Socrates was innocent on all charges, since he
sufficiently proved that he did believe in the gods and was not corrupting the youth. One of the
accusations brought against Socrates is he disregards the gods of the state, instead teaching purely
physical explanations for heavenly and earthly phenomena, which are typically explained by the
doings of the gods. Socrates refutes this claim by stating that he has no knowledge in the field of
scientific explanations. This is pre Socratic philosophy, which Socrates states he has never taught. He
asks the jury Tell one another, then, whether any of you has ever heard me discussing such subjects,
either briefly or at length; and as a result you will realize that the other things said about me are
equally baseless. (Pojman 37) Socrates goes on to rebut the first part of the accusation by explaining
that while he does not necessarily believe in the gods of the state, he does believe in a higher god.
Socrates argues that he cannot believe in one god without believing in other gods as well. So, although
he may not directly believe in the gods of the state, he acknowledges the fact that such gods must
exist. He points out the paradox in his accusers statement

The Mexican American battle for civil rights has been long and difficult but alas necessary. Can you
imagine living in a prejudice environment and as consequence not being able to exercise your rights as
a citizen? The past notion of minorities not having the same rights as the anglo majorities is simply
absurd. The injustice that Mexican Americans have experienced in the past is undeniably
discriminatory. Justice and reasoning played an important part over the years in dismantling such
bigotry. A few notable figures, movements, and court cases in Mexican American history that helped
pave the way for obtaining civil rights include: George I. Sanchez, ... Show more content on

5. Syri A Country Filled With Violence, Poverty, And Instability
Syria has always been a country filled with violence, poverty, and instability. From 1946, when it
gained its independence from France, there has always been turmoil and political unrest in the country.
The Ba ath Party s regime began formally in 1966, although similarly minded factions had control
since 1947, and it marked the first stable Syrian government. Syria s ruling political party is made up
of members of the Syrian Alawite population, a minority in a predominantly Sunni country. Up until
today, the Ba ath Party has maintained iron like control over Syria, with the Assad family leading the
party and the country since 1970. Hafez al Assad began his rule in 1970, and his son, current president
Bashar al Assad, took power after his death in 2000. When the younger Assad first came to power, the
West was ready for a more moderate Syria to be created, due to the fact that Assad had a western
education and at one point was studying to become an eye doctor in London, England. However,
western expectations were proved to be extremely wrong, as Assad has most definitely not created a
moderate Syria, and arguably he has even made the country more right wing. He established unilateral
control for himself and the Ba ath Party multiple times by declaring states of emergency in Syria, and
he has ruled with an even stronger grip than his father. Since the beginning of the Arab Spring, or
more accurately the Long Arab Winter, Bashar al Assad has only tightened his control, and he

7. Human Sacrifice In The Aztec Religion
ESSAY QUESTION #1:
The idea of human sacrifice leaves a bad taste in the typical Christian s mouth. In comparison to a first
world point of view, the Aztecs outlook seemed incredibly primitive. Simply put, human sacrifice
would not be in my grandmother s agenda; not in her day, not in her week, not in her lifetime.
However, this would not be the case if she were as invested in the Aztec religion of 1349 CE.
During this time period, human sacrifice was a powerful form of religious practice in many
Mesoamerican cultures. More often than not, the spiritual performance began with war rather than the
modern Christian s custom of attending church. The Aztec nation housed a surplus of young, strong
men and as a result, was a powerhouse in battle due to their immense military power. Each war
occurred for the sole purpose of capturing victims for sacrificial ceremonies. Due to their obsessive
nature over war, body counts were considered to be of vast important in this community and it was a
huge ordeal for the warrior who performed a capture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which brings me to the question: why doesn t Christianity incorporate the idea of God feeling irritated
with his creations? We do not seem to be influencing much positive change on Earth, but rather
destroying what we have been given. Why does this God allow his human creations to devour his
world so mercilessly and all the while not require some form of more extreme ritual? Attending
church service seems incredibly mundane in comparison to the intensity of human sacrifice in
Mesoamerican culture. Is listening to a man or woman interpret the Bible for a short forty five minute
period simply enough for this God? I find it interesting that the Aztecs feel as if they owe it to their
gods for creating them, while Christians aim to simply be faithful enough to gain access to heaven

To what extent does one s culture inform the way one views others and the world?
Have you thought of someone s culture as weird? Have you thought that you are completely different

to what extent does one s culture inform the way one views others and the world? Culture informs a

Canadian Political Culture, in a nation state context, can be break down as beliefs and attitudes that
Canadian have of political objects( Jackson, Politics in Canada.1994).
The majority of Canadians normally hold similar political notion that, unlike firm beliefs that varies in
due time, are more widespread and are considered as the base for political culture. It is these values
and attitudes that Canadian citizens share that compose the heart of Canada nation state political
culture system. The political culture in general demands other things such as regional or even

this paper, it will only focus on the similarities that Canadian share in their political attitudes of a
nation culture as a whole. It will talk about on the likeness of thought that differentiate them from

historical events that straightening the view point of those living in Canada. Canada is most of the

12. The Toursim Industry in South Africa
The tourism industry is a vast growing trade that in recent years has seen a significant increase in its
contribution to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of various respective countries. South Africa is one
of the countries that have witnessed tremendous growth in its tourism industry. As much as such
development is a very welcomed phenomenon for any country, growth and development is limited by
a number of constraints. Of importance to this particular study is the issue of seasonality in the
tourism industry.
Seasonality is defined as the fluctuation of situations that has a direct effect on one or more variables.
(McCarthy 1994:275).According to an article by strathprints journals (www.stathprints/journals, 25
April) seasonality in tourism has traditionally been regarded as a major problem which needs to be
overcome, but relatively little research has been conducted on the patterns or causes of this
phenomenon.
The question this study aims to unfold is:
What effect does the seasonal nature of the tourism industry have on the providers of components of
the tourism industry, as well as on unemployment in Mbombela?
The aims and objectives of the study are:
To investigate the negative effects seasonality has on the tourism industry in Mbombela.
To highlight the differences in the rates of employment associated with different points within the
seasonal cycle.
To highlight the internal changes enforced by service providers in the tourism industry as a result of

The time was 1494. Columbus had discovered America just two years before. The author was a

The chapter on practical mathematics addressed mathematics in business. He said that the successful

Loneliness, Sorrow, and Companionship in ¨The Wife s Lament¨
The Wife s Lament is about loneliness, sorrow and companionship. ¨The Wife s Lament¨, translated
by Richard Hamer, describes the feelings of a woman who is grieving about the absence of her lord or
husband. The poem is a written as a woman s song. The woman is frustrated that she is separated from
her lover and that she is unable to mend her situation. We can see loneliness and grief reflected in the
poem because the woman talks about hardships. It is a sad poem; she feels lonely and vulnerable
because she is no longer in touch with her lord. This woman should deal with her grief, face it, and
move forward to make her life better.
In The Wife s Lament, the woman longs for companionship from her husband. Her husband, who is
not named in this poem, goes to sea leaving her in a friendless exile (10). It is noted that her lord s
kinsmen plotted secretly (11), wanting to separate them for a long time. The plot to send her away put
her in a position where it would forever keep them apart. She has never been through a loss this

America is recognized as a place where if you work hard enough you can become wealthy. In fact, the
U.S. has more millionaires than any other country in the world. However, for all that prosperity, the
gap between rich and poor has always been large. People have been attempting to fix this inequality
for over a century now. Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish immigrant who became the second richest man in
America by dominating the steel industry, and Terence V. Powderly, an American attorney, labor union
leader, politician, and best known as head of the Knights of Labor, were among the first to propose
solutions. Carnegie s idea, called The Gospel of Wealth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bettering their own lives. Through the common man s access to money, Powderly believed that they
could achieve not only better living conditions, but a happier society in general, all while decreasing
the ever growing gap between the rich and the poor (Powderly). While Carnegie s idea of the wealthy

This period of our lives is a one bursting with challenging events and life changing transitions, don t

This powerful characteristic that transitional phases possess have the potential to be a rewarding

When the narrator starts the story he opens it with This blind man, an old friend of my wife s, he was

26. Research Paper On Insanity Defense
Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense. Steve Landesberg. Insanity Defense is an
excuse used in court that is arguing that the defendant who committed the crime is not guilty due to
their battle with mental illness, such as severe Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar disorder, Dementia,
Schizophrenia, and much more. Insanity Defense should be authorized to all fifty states because the
mentally ill cannot control their mind, they are not obtained from prison, but they are hospitalized and
given treatment, and there is a low chance of the defendant winning the case.
Throughout their lifetime, people with mental disorders have battled somewhat of physical, emotional,
and or sexual abuse. This causes them to have a traumatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four States do not allow Insanity Defense, such as Kansas, Montana, Idaho and Utah. Some of the
jury will not believe that the defendant is truly insane, but just an excuse to dodge prison. Juries find
only about 20 percent of the defendants who plead insanity . It is a very small amount compared to
thousands of cases that they court hear every year. Many states use The M Naghten Rule states that the
Defendant either did not understand what he or she did, or failed to distinguish right from wrong,
because of a disease of mind . A common misconception of the insanity defense is that it is a get out of
jail free card. In reality, The defense is used only about 1% of the time in felony cases and the
acquittal rate is only 26% . Numerous tests are in place to determine the validity of an insanity defense
(M Naghten rule, Irresistible Impulse test, and Model Penal Code, etc) so it is extremely difficult to
fake insanity. The insanity defense is a way to provide help to those who need it; it is unfair to
compare those suffering from mental illness to those who are not. And even if the defense is used, it
does not mean it will be found true by the court and

After these schools were established, it was still hard for a former salve to obtain an education. Fisk
University for example, only admitted those who were the children of a female slave and a white
male, normally a slave master. Many schools during this time period adapted this same entrance
criterion. A southern school, Lincoln Normal School, did not have any bias principles rooted in their
entrance process. Peyton Finley founded Lincoln Normal School, present day Alabama State
University in 1867, in Marion, Alabama. Peyton Finley is also noted for being the first African
American appointed to the Alabama State Board of Education. Finley s involvement with the board of
education allowed him to get the American Missionary Association and the Freemen s Bureau to
provide books, supplies, teachers, and finances for the new school. However, in 1864, the American
Missionary Association went bankrupt, and could no longer support Lincoln Normal School.
Therefore, the African American community in Marion, Alabama supported the financial needs of the
school. In 1874, Lincoln Normal School became the first state supported institution in Alabama. Prior
to this significant event in the school s history, George N. Card became the first president of the
institution in 1873. George N. Card is mostly noted for serving as president when the Lincoln Normal
School became the nation s first state supported Liberal Arts College for African American. Card also

30. Summary Of The Movie Rambo
Devin Minix
September 25, 2017
Assignment #1
Rambo: First Blood The 1980s in America was a time when the country was struggling with tough
issues and the aftermath of the Vietnam war. The overall view was that America could no longer
involve itself anymore conflicts and general confrontations across the globe. With this in mind as we
look back at the 1960s, we see a completely different world. We see an America that is knee deep in
the battle of a lifetime, fighting an enemy of unknown power and strength with many unwilling men
and women at war. We see this most evident in the movie Rambo: First Blood , where we are
presented with Rambo, a Vietnam war veteran who returns to finds his friends after the war and
instead enters another war but this time with the American government. Throughout this movie,
Rambo can be viewed as a representation of American values during the 1960s with a combination of
standing for the young men and women who fought in Vietnam and their struggle coming back to war
as well as standing for old American values pre Vietnam, where the United States viewed itself as a
positive force for good that had to get in struggles for freedom. We see the idea of him being another
vet is easily understandable when you see the film. Rambo comes back to America looking for his lost
friends from the Vietnam war and wonders around the town. He is met immediately with a harsh
response by many people including the government. When you look back at the 1960s, we see a rise
in anti establishment views and a hatred for the American government. We see a clear demonstration
of these political views in the movie, when Rambo is defiant to the police chief who tells him to leave
town so he will not disturb their carefully constructed peace. Rambo through the film is defiant
because he blames the army and through blaming the army ultimately blames America for neglecting
their troops and seeing him as a relic of the past. All throughout the movie, rather than reason with
Rambo and talk through their problems, they choose the more violent routes that only lead to more
turmoil and ultimately pain for the people who fight against Rambo. Between the PTSD flashbacks
that Rambo experiences and the corrupt government

Dependence
As a child, you become dependent on your parents. Dependence starts at birth, a newborn must be fed
every few hours. The excessive diaper changes and constant burping, one must depend on their
parents to take care of them. Oneself does not choose their caregiver nor if one wants to be dependent
upon them but, it s a need. Throughout this dependence one creates a special place in their heart for
their caregiver. This special place leads to defense in their honor and creates feelings for one as a
survival strategy. Growing up in church as a child, he or she learns to depend on the bible to seek the
right pathway into life. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one s life for one s friends (John

creates dependence on him after his given knowledge. By creating this loyalty towards Uncle Husband
