INTRO OF
WWW
 The World Wide Web (WWW) is
an internet based service. It is the network
of pages of images, texts and sounds on
the Internet which can be viewed using
browser software.
 It is used to exchanging the information
between Client and Server.
 It uses the web pages to interact with the
user that pages can be viewed using web
browser
 The development of the World Wide
Web was begun in 1989 by Tim Berners-
Lee at CERN.
 They created a protocol, Hypertext
Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which
standardized communication between
servers and clients.
 The World Wide Web gained rapid
acceptance with the creation of a Web
browser called Mosaic developed
by Marc Andreessen
HISTORY
STRUCTUR
E
 Clients use browser application to send
URIs via HTTP to Server requesting Web
Pages
 Web pages constructed using HTML and
consist of text, graphics, sounds and other
multimedia files
 Servers (or caches) respond with
requested Web page
 Client’s browser (such as Mosaic, Chrome,
Edge) renders Web page returned by
server
 The entire system runs over standard
networking protocols
WWW
Components
 Structural Components
 Browser
 Server
 Cache
 Internet
 Semantic Components
 HTTP
 HTML
 URL
Structural
Components
of WWW
 Browser
Browser is the software or application that is used to
view the content of internet
 Server
Server are special type of computer or devices on the
network that store information and fulfill the user
request.
 Cache
An auxiliary memory from which high-speed retrieval is
possible.
 Internet
It is the network of networks. The WWW is the way of
accessing the information over the internet
Semantic
Components
of WWW
 HTTP
The Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the
client-server network protocol that has been in
use by the World-Wide Web
 HTML
HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. It
is used to design web pages using markup
language that can be viewed using Browser
 URL
URL is an acronym for Uniform Resource Locator.
It is the address by which computers and
documents on the Internet can be located.
Mapping of WWW
BROWSERS
 A browser is the software that can be used to
display web pages on the internet.
 Web browser communicate to web
server primarily using HTTP.
 There are many popular browser in market
such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge,
Firefox, Opera, Safari etc.
 Google Chrome is the widely used browser in
the world.
 The advance development of browser and use
of HTTP started with Mosaic Browser
MOSAIC
 Mosaic is the first Graphical Web browser
 Mosaic was developed at the National
Center for Supercomputing Applications
(NCSA) in 1992 and initial release in 1993.
 Microsoft licensed Mosaic to create
Internet Explorer in 1995
 It officially discontinued development and
support in 1997.
Conclusion
 The World Wide Web have today was
created by some very bright, talented
people who either had vision, or were
inspired by other talented people’s
visions.
 Though their ideas were not always
popular, they pressed ahead.
 Their perseverance and hard work
brought us to where we are today.
 There is a lot to be learned by studying
these people, their early work and
keeping in mind what they had to work
with.
