Soeng Kratip is a folk dance from northeastern Thailand that is performed at joyful events and festivals. The dance begins with a group of men playing traditional instruments like bamboo flutes and gongs, after which a group of women carrying bamboo boxes dance, representing women preparing food for their families. This particular performance of the Soeng Kratip dance was done by students from Khon Kaen University in Thailand.
3. Background information
Soeng Kratip is a folk dance of Phu Thai people, one of ethnic
groups living in upper-northeastern Thailand e.g. Sakhon
Nakhon and nearby provinces for a long time. This dance
performs in joyful events and festivals. It begins by a group of
men plays musical instrument such as Klong tae, Klong yao,
Kaen, Gong mong, Ching, Chab and Krub, then a group of
women with a bamboo box for containing rice dances. This
shows their daily lives that women prepare food for their
husbands and relatives to work in the farms.

Art, and Department of Folk Music, Faculty of Liberal Arts,
Khon Kaen University, Thailand.
