I completed my engineering in metallurgy from the National Institute of Technology, at Durgapur in 1969. I then worked in Germany for a year with Fried Krupp Huttenwerke, at Bochum. From there I went to the USA for graduate studies.I was at the U of I from 1970 to 72 studying for my MBA. I worked in industry for over 3 decades. I worked with Tata Motors, Escorts Limited, Blackwood Hodge (GMMCo), and I was the Chief General Manager of Maruti Udyog in 1981-82, the first CEO of the company.
