He died on 20 February 1848 at age 29 at Madeira, PortugalG, unmarried.1
     He gained the title of Prince Alexander of the Netherlands.2 He was given the name of William Alexander Frederick Constantine Nicholas Michael von Nassau at birth.

He married, firstly, Amelie Marie da Gloria Auguste Prinzessin von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, daughter of Karl Bernhard Prinz von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach and Ida Prinzessin von Sachsen-Meiningen, on 19 May 1853 at Weimar, GermanyG.2 He married, secondly, Marie Elisabeth Luise Friederike Prinzessin von Preußen, daughter of Friedrich Karl Nikolaus Prinz von Preußen and Marie Anne Prinzessin von Anhalt-Dessau, on 24 August 1878. He died on 14 January 1879 at age 58 at Wolferdingen, LuxemburgG.2
