George Keith, 4th Earl Marischal

George Keith, 4th Earl of Marischal

     George Keith, 4th Earl Marischal was born in 1553.2 He was the son of William Keith, Master of Marischal and Lady Elizabeth Hay.3 He married, secondly, Margaret Ogilvy, daughter of James Ogilvy, 5th Lord Ogilvy of Airlie and Jean Forbes.4 He married by contract, firstly, Margaret Home, daughter of Alexander Home, 5th Lord Home and Margaret Ker, on 4 February 1580/81.5 He died on 2 April 1623.4
     He succeeded as the 4th Lord Keith [S., 1451] on 7 October 1581.4 He succeeded as the 4th Earl Marischal [S., 1458] on 7 October 1581.4 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1585.4 He held the office of Scottish Ambassador to Denmark in 1589, to negotiate King James VI's marriage.4 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Altrie [S., 1587] in 1592.3 In 1593 he founded Marischal College, Aberdeen.4 He held the office of High Commissioner of Parliament [Scotland] in 1609.4

     William Hay, 1st Earl of Erroll was the son of Gilbert of the Haye and Alice Hay.1 He married Lady Beatrix Douglas, daughter of James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas and Beatrice Sinclair, circa 17 March 1449/50.2 He died on 15 November 1461.1
     He held the office of Hereditary Constable [Scotland].1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Hay [S., 1430] in 1437.3 He was created 1st Earl of Erroll [Scotland] on 12 June 1452.3 On 31 July 1452 he gained the territorial Earldom of Erroll and Lordship of Slains by charter.3

     Lady Beatrix Douglas was the daughter of James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas and Beatrice Sinclair.1 She married William Hay, 1st Earl of Erroll, son of Gilbert of the Haye and Alice Hay, circa 17 March 1449/50.1
     From circa 17 March 1449/50, her married name became Hay. After her marriage, Lady Beatrix Douglas was styled as Countess of Erroll on 12 June 1452.

     After her marriage, Lady Elizabeth Leslie was styled as Countess of Erroll in 1485. From 1485, her married name became Hay.2

     William Keith, 8th Earl Marischal was born circa 1664.2 He was the son of George Keith, 7th Earl Marischal and Lady Mary Hay. He married Lady Mary Drummond, daughter of James Drummond, 4th Earl of Perth and Lady Jean Douglas, circa 1690.3 He died on 27 May 1712 at London, EnglandG.3
     He succeeded as the 8th Lord Keith [S., 1451] in 1694.2 He succeeded as the 8th Earl Marischal [S., 1458] in 1694.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1701.2 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1705 by the Jacobite King James III.2 He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1710 and 1712.2

     Lady Lucy Montague was the daughter of George Montague, 1st Earl of Halifax and Ricarda Postuma Saltonstall.1,3 She married Francis North, 1st Earl of Guilford, son of Francis North, 2nd Baron Guilford and Alicia Brownlow, on 17 June 1728.1 She died on 7 May 1734.1
     From 17 June 1728, her married name became North. After her marriage, Lady Lucy Montague was styled as Baroness of Guilford on 17 October 1729.

     Elizabeth Kaye was the daughter of Sir Arthur Kaye, 3rd Bt. and Anne Marowe.1,3 She married, firstly, George Legge, Viscount Lewisham, son of William Legge, 1st Earl of Dartmouth and Lady Anne Finch.4 She married, secondly, Francis North, 1st Earl of Guilford, son of Francis North, 2nd Baron Guilford and Alicia Brownlow, on 24 January 1736.4 She died on 21 April 1745.4
     Her married name became Legge.4 Circa 1726 she inherited Woodsome.4 After her marriage, Elizabeth Kaye was styled as Baroness North on 24 January 1736. Her married name became North.
