Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia

ESCWA is one of five regional commissions under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The role of the Commission is to promote economic and social development of Western Asia through regional and subregional cooperation and integration.

Governing Bodies

The Commission is the highest body within the organization. It holds a session at the ministerial level once every two years. Reporting to it are 10 subsidiary bodies, namely the Executive Committee and nine specialized subsidiary committees, which help to formulate its programme plan and act as an interface between member States and the secretariat’s substantive experts.
