Babel
[edit]Babel lets you view and edit more than one language on Wikidata. Just add e.g.{{#babel:de-N|en-3|es-1|fr-2|nl-3|it-4|da-0}} to your user page. --Tobias1984 (talk) 10:03, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Removal of statements.
[edit]Hi Blackcat, i wanted to ask you why you removed all the statements of this entity. I've reverted to a previous edition. Regards,--Zeroth (talk) 01:01, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hello @Zeroth:, because - I suppose - it has been left by error, not existing any article on any Wikimedia project nor a WikiCommons category abotut her. -- Blackcat (talk) 09:35, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hi again Blackcat. First of all, the way to delete items is not removing the statements, but leaving a deletion request here. Second, regarding the inclusion criteria, ill suggest you read the Wikidata:Notability page. Having no wiki links its not reason to delete an item. Regards, --Zeroth (talk) 13:34, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, @Zeroth: I didn't know. So far I was convinced that neither article nor Commons category = no Wikidata entry. -- Blackcat (talk) 13:53, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Sure, no problem. Wikidata standards for inclusion of entities is far less strict than the other projects. Regards, --Zeroth (talk) 15:44, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Shouldn't the telescope be a separate item from the observatory? Also, at Turin Astrophysical Observatory (Q115695) you changed operator (P137) to authority (P797) - note that the infobox in the enwp article will show the first, but not the second. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:05, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- The telescope has a slightly elaborated story, @Mike Peel:: the original one was in Brera, central Milan. In the late 1920s an auxiliary telescope was installed in Merate, a small municipality near Milan. Actually it's not an osservatory in itself but the operating dépendance of Brera Observatory. Another different story is i.e. the Observatory of Rome: it's composed by two separated observatories, one in Monte Mario, northern Rome, and another in Monte Porzio, a small town near the Capital. Until 2017 there was a third one which now is part of the Abruzzo Observatory. As for the property authority (P797), actually INAF manages the observatories rather than operating, but frankly I don't get the difference in English. -- Blackcat (talk) 21:32, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
Merging items
[edit]Hallo Blackcat,
When you (want to) merge items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It helps with merging, gives the option to always keep the lower number (which is older, so preferable in most cases) and removes the need to file a request on Wikidata:Requests for deletions.

- Please ONLY merge when you are 101% sure the items are EXACTLY the same. See also below. Edoderoo (talk) 17:17, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Schofför:, I don't speak German thus I reply in English. It might be possible that her current surname is "Del Medico" because of customs (not by birth), but her Italian surname might as well be "del Medico", see here. Here, further, she presents herself as Paola Felix-del Medico. Where's the truth? -- Blackcat (talk) 23:22, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Blackcat, (I'm trying to answer here using Google translation) The page on Facebook is not her personal page (just a group of followers). On the side of Eurovision, in the section "Mit 18 Jahren Platz fünf beim ESC" is the name of her father: Vittorio Del Medico > same as in the birth announcement. On her own website she writes under profile and under biography "Paola Felix - Del Medico", respectively "Paola Felix-Del Medico". In the Italian language, the prefixed additions are usually written in capital letters for surnames (it:Dal Sasso, it:Di Stefano, it:Del Carretto (disambigua), en:Gianni De Biasi, en:Cristiano Del Grosso, en:D'Agostino, ...). Greeting --Schofför (talk) 00:24, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, it might be possible that one changed their name. My family name used to be "d'Afflitto" until my granfather, then became "D'Afflitto". In fact in Italian such names have been capitalized later. Anyway if you think that "Del Medico" is better change it, but I'm afraid you're going to find more resistence from English and French projects. -- Blackcat (talk) 16:32, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Stella Cox
Hai qualche fonte a riguardo? --Westmanurbe (talk) 21:35, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
Comunque qui a 0:53 Stella Cox dice "My first language was Italian, and then I learnt English. I learnt Swedish but then I forgot it and now I speak French". -- Blackcat (talk) 08:08, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Blackcat:.
Qualora saltassero fuori altre notizie, faremmo sempre in tempo a correggere. --Westmanurbe (talk) 18:16, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
- No, no, @Westmanurbe:, figurati, per me va benissimo. -- Blackcat (talk) 07:57, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

New OpenRefine reconciliation service
[edit]Hi!
Thank you for wearing the {{User loves OpenRefine}}
userbox on your user page!
Because the existing Wikidata reconciliation service has had severe performance issues recently, I have created a new one which should be faster and more robust. You can add it to OpenRefine in the reconciliation dialog with the following URL: https://wikidata.reconci.link/en/api
(or by replacing en
by any other language code).
If you have any issues with this new service, let me know.
Happy reconciling! − Pintoch (talk) 15:48, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
- Actually , @Pintoch:, OpenRefine it is an useful tool, though I noticed some issue in reconciliation indeed. -- Blackcat (talk) 17:44, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Why?????????????????????????????????????
[edit]Why did you merge "list of soccer interland games" with "interland game". For me this is vandalism, and it can NOT be reverted. Can you please clean up the mess you created? Edoderoo (talk) 17:16, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Excuse me @Edoderoo:, but I have no idea of what you're talking about. -- Blackcat (talk) 17:52, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Just look at https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q28197061&action=history and your merge into international association football match (Q17315159). A list of X is not the same as X. A list of persons is not one person, and a list of soccer games is not one soccergame. Edoderoo (talk) 18:27, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

- @Edoderoo:, there were no associated wikilinks on any wikipedia project. What was the point in keeping such item? -- Blackcat (talk) 20:09, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, but so much stupidity I'm not going to answer, and I'm suggesting you to stop using the merge-tool, as long as you do NOT understand the basics of this project. Your silly merge will cost me 3 days of f(*)&U(*& work.... Edoderoo (talk) 20:36, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Edoderoo:, if you were so kind to explain, maybe we'll understand one another. That item is not a list. That item is a subclass of a sports international match and an association football match. Still I do not understand what the instance "list" has to do with that item. -- Blackcat (talk) 21:39, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- I stay with my conclusion: as long as you do not understand the basics of this Wikidata-project, you better stay far away from the merge tool. You are creating time consuming problems that are almost impossible to solve. Edoderoo (talk) 07:11, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Casey Calvert
[edit]Please stop assigning a birth name to Casey Calvert. Your sourcing for this is original research, and no reliable source gives a birthname for her. -- The Anome (talk) 23:02, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- @The Anome: yes? and who decides that Justia isn not a reliable source? That's her trade name registered to her, or you can deny that? -- Blackcat (talk) 11:00, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- No, that's a trademark (not a trade name, which is a different thing) registered to someone who may or may not be her (it might, for example, be her agent). Inferring that that that person is her, and that this is her birth name, is original research. -- The Anome (talk) 12:09, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Ha, @The Anome:, her agent. There is no adult agent whose name is Sarah Goldberger. Further she declares she comes from a Jewish conservative family, and being I half Jew myself know that Goldberger is a Jewish surname... -- Blackcat (talk) 14:48, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
P.S. btw, seek for Sarah Goldberger here and let me know, @The Anome:.- @The Anome:, please have a look at this also. Either she's Casey Calvert's twin sister, or is she a lookalike or.. :-) -- Blackcat (talk) 14:54, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Again, you're making your own inferences from external sources, not citing sources that directly support the statement. Wikidata is not a pornstar doxxing site: if her legal name is not in the public domain, I suggest you should stop playing amateur detective to deduce it. -- The Anome (talk) 19:41, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not playing the amateur detective nor do care doxxing. She's known both as Casey Calvert and as Sarah Goldberger. You might talk of "inference" if I supposed it through some unofficial source; but when there's a Getty photograph picturing Casey Calvert at a public event with a caption "Sarah Goldberger" it's not an inference, it's a heavy source, and I think you're too intelligent for hiding behind a pointing finger claiming the opposite... -- Blackcat (talk) 19:54, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

If a reliable source does not explicitly say this, it's still original research, as it is a matter of opinion as to whether two women who seem to look the same are actually the same person. The same goes for the Justia entry. -- The Anome (talk) 17:02, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- ROTFL; @The Anome:, tell me that you're kidding me. Sarah Goldberger / Casey Calvert is married with Eli Cross / Bryan Pryor and both have written the screenplay of a movie with their respective birth names. Now you're telling me that "is a matter of opinion as to whether two women who seem to look the same are actually the same person" :) Find something better, becase your affirmations have no ground. Again, what point are you exactly trying to state? -- Blackcat (talk) 18:33, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

- il link che hai citato ha un sapore giornalistico e scandalistico, cercando di spingere i lettori a battersi perché vengano spesi meglio i soldi pubblici;
ZandDev (talk) 00:59, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Pizzaedo (talk) 19:34, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
-- Blackcat 19:39, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
Pizzaedo (talk) 20:52, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Pizzaedo:, Wikidata non è it.wiki. -- Blackcat 21:57, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment
[edit]Dear Blckcat,
I hope you are doing well,
I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.
I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits.
Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published in a research venue.
The experiment should take no more than 15 minutes, and it will be held next week.
If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfA1wfdBfCRlcG3WhDyc-V8lzgPNx3fDFCNXkyn4CSwahXZ_A/viewform?usp=sf_link Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.
For more information about my project, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa
In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.
Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Hello, I'm Eihel. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent description edits to Q9086057 didn't meet the Wikidata description guidelines. Descriptions should appear as though they were in the middle of a sentence, typically start with a lowercase letter, and written from a neutral point of view. For example, "pop singer" would be a better description than "He is the best pop singer." If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Eihel (talk) 17:48, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
1936
[edit]On 16 April 2022, you merged Q77316211 into Q313356, only for 1936. Why? Has it been discussed first? If 1936 should be merged, all Olympic soccer competitions prior to 1996 should also be merged. J 1982 (talk) 15:06, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes indeed. Now I don't remember why I did only that (maybe power shortage or connection dropping) and never went on. Anyway yes, until 1992 the association football tournament at the Olympics was only male, thus no need to keep two items for the same topic. Since 1996 is reasonable to keep "Association football at the Olympics" as separate item from "men's association football" and "women's association football" at the Olympics. Blackcat 11:26, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
- I think this needs to be discussed. For example, ice hockey has similair separate objects between 1920 and 1994, despite ice hockey not being an Olympic sport for women until 1998. J 1982 (talk) 13:50, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
Invitation to participate in the WQT UI requirements elicitation online workshop
[edit]Dear Blackcat,
I hope you are doing well,
We are a group of researchers from King’s College London working on developing WQT (Wikidata Quality Toolkit), which will support a diverse set of editors in curating and validating Wikidata content.
We are inviting you to participate in an online workshop aimed at understanding the requirements for designing effective and easy-to-use user interfaces (UI) for three tools within WQT that can support the daily activities of Wikidata editors: recommending items to edit based on their personal preferences, finding items that need better references, and generating entity schemas automatically for better item quality.
The main activity during this workshop will be UI mockup sketching. To facilitate this, we encourage you to attend the workshop using a tablet or laptop with PowerPoint installed or any other drawing tools you prefer. This will allow for a more interactive and productive session as we delve into the UI mockup sketching activities.
Participation is completely voluntary. You should only take part if you want to and choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in any way. However, your cooperation will be valuable for the WQT design. Please note that all data and responses collected during the workshop will be used solely for the purpose of improving the WQT and understanding editor requirements. We will analyze the results in an anonymized form, ensuring your privacy is protected. Personal information will be kept confidential and will be deleted once it has served its purpose in this research.
The online workshop, which will be held on April 5th, should take no more than 3 hours.
If you agree to participate in this workshop, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form to register your interest https://forms.office.com/e/9mrE8rXZVg Then, I will contact you with all the instructions for the workshop.
For more information about my project, please read this page: https://king-s-knowledge-graph-lab.github.io/WikidataQualityToolkit/
If you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me at the email address mentioned above.
Thank you for considering taking part in this project.
