Wikidata:WikiProject Textile arts
The goal of this project is to improve Wikidata's coverage of textile arts - sewing, weaving, knitting, lacemaking, needlework, and other related crafts. Our scope will include textile processes, the artisans who practice those processes, and the materials they produce.
Info You can use the AutoEdit tool to quickly add label and description on WikiProject Textile arts in many languages.

Best practices
[edit]Distinct items
[edit]Following the standard established by WikiProject Visual arts and other projects, we should maintain distinct items for:
- textile arts or crafts processes and techniques
- types of materials or objects produced using those processes
- the related profession or occupation for people who practice those processes
Inter-relationships:
- quilting (Q1920065)practiced by (P3095)quiltmaker (Q30341438)
- quilting (Q1920065)product, material, or service produced or provided (P1056)quilt (Q1064538)
- quilt (Q1064538)fabrication method (P2079)quilting (Q1920065)
- quiltmaker (Q30341438)field of this occupation (P425)quilting (Q1920065)
Instances and subclasses
[edit]In general, textile arts concepts (crafts and materials) should be <subclass of> "textile", "textile art", "textile process", or "textile tool", etc., or, more often, one of their subclasses.
- Exception: Types of textile fiber (wool (Q42329), silk (Q37681)) should always be <instance of> fiber (Q3071311); this is a metaclass and has instances that are classes. (Many of these are already modeled.)
Individual textile items (like Appliqué inv. 2757 (Q26756759), a piece of bobbin lace in a museum collection), should be <instance of> the relevant subclass of "textile art".
Professions and occupations should be <instance of> occupation (Q12737077) and can also be a <subclass> of a broader occupation.
Properties

- made from material (P186): material the subject or the object is made of or derived from (do not confuse with P10672 which is used for processes)
- practiced by (P3095): type of agents that study this subject or work in this field
- ...
Other properties
[edit]- uses (P2283): item or concept used by the subject or in the operation (see also instrument [P1303] and armament [P520])
- used by (P1535): item or concept that makes use of the subject (use sub-properties when appropriate)
- has use (P366): main use of the subject (includes current and former usage)
- ...
Inter-relations
[edit]Here are four different types of concepts we are working with and properties for their inter-relations. Please feel free to modify or comment on the talk page.
Queries
[edit]- See also Lists
Find orphan items. If an item is not found in any of the listings, it is not categorised under any of the top classes.
Fix item classes. Pay attention to the type of class Art / craft / method <> Product / material <> Tool <> Occupation. If the item's categorisation is false, the different review methods will reveal that and allow fixing it. More classes can be added to the table, also subclasses of existing ones.
