ABSTRACT Reinforced concrete design (RCD) activity requires the services of design table to pick bar sizes and area of specific bar groups. This allow reinforced concrete (RC) designers to use their intuition to pick the right bar size for detailing of RC Structures which virtually enhance reliable and satisfactory answers to RCD problems. With the advent of computer with its powerful memory, most RCD software available automatically generates Steel Properties thus, jeopardising user's contribution in terms of their perception. RCD Tables are conventionally small but not limited in use. By the skilful and innovative integration of available concepts and techniques, the power of the RCD Tables are enhanced to check for deflection, minimum and maximum area of steel, and display alert to users. Visualization RCD Table interface was designed as a dialog box. Simply Supported Reinforced Concrete Beam Structure (SSRCBS) tool was modified to accommodate the new tool. Statistical analysis revealed that the significance of time was borderline between SSRCBS tool and the modified tool. It was also found that as the tasks became more complex, the modified tool advantage increases in terms of task-by-task satisfaction and users understanding of the logic behind RCD.

ABSTRACT ____________________________________________ ABSTRACT This paper describes the design outcomes and user evaluation of a Reinforced Concrete Design (RCD) interface for Beams from a user-centric point of view. The design began with a user interface proposal that was shown to Reinforced Concrete Designers to gather first reactions. Based on feedback the style evolved and eventually interaction diagrams were made to make sure that the functionality was both possible and logical to implement. The interaction diagrams were presented to usability RCD experts to be initially evaluated and commented upon. The design decisions were implemented using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and AutoCAD 2010. A prototype was produced to test the theories in practice and to gain information about the RCD users. The implementation itself took advantage of emerging technologies such as WCF which make it possible to use Service Oriented Applications through the web services. A total of twenty-five RCD experts were recruited to perform various tasks on both Structural Analysis and Design (STAAD) Software Product and the prototype RCD applications and rate their experiences. The outcomes of the user-study were positive, with the majority of the users (twenty-two out of twenty-five) preferring the prototyped interface to the existing and fully working solution. This was considered a good result given the qualitative feedback from the users. Some of the findings emphasized the importance of the holistic experience and look-interact-and-feel over a pure set of technical features and merits.

Real Time Database Systems (RTDBS) designers are charged with systems that produces results in a timely and consistent fashion. Therefore, the design of this kind of databases needs user requirements to support both data structures and the dynamic behaviours of the database algorithms using visualization technique. In this paper, we present a user-centered visualization based on our understanding of the work RTDBS and the needs of designers derived from the first significant user study of RTDBS. The tool presents RTDBS designers with both ‘at a glance’ understanding of algorithm behavior, and low-level details. The overall satisfaction mean score was 4.83 (std. dev. = 1.27), with mean satisfaction score for the visualization component being 5.17 (std. dev. = 1.11). Users rated the ease of learning a mean score of 4.42 (std. dev. = 1.44). Also, users self-rated performance was strongly correlated to ease of learning (Pearson, 0.84, p<0.001), mirroring the desire for the tool to be...

With the advent of modern computer technology, the field of Artificial Intelligence is playing a significant role in improving almost every spectrum of human life. In the field of agriculture, there is always need for optimality with improved crop yield. This paper dwells majorly on the application of fuzzy logic to predict crop type with optimal crop yield based on available soil nutrients. Some soil data samples were collected from the department of soil science, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and used as input into the system. The proposed system was simulated using MatLab Fuzzy inference System with a triangular member function. The range of nutrients was later deployed as input into a visual basic developed application to predict the best crop to be planted. A dual method (static and dynamic) was used in testing and validating the result of research which showed a significant improvement on the crop type selection than the conventional prediction mode.

Money serves as a medium for which goods and services are exchanged. Anything that can be generally accepted for settling of debts and used for performing financial transactions is being referred to as money in the olden days. Many countries in the world have a generally acceptable and commonly used currency among their citizenry. The 21st century application and usage of money has transcended the notion and belief of the existence of money in the form of regular bank notes and coins. Nowadays, digital currency, electronic money or electronic currency is being in use with quite an appreciable number of people inclining their insight towards its effective usage and more countries adopting it for financial transactions as against the conventional forms of money. This paper surveys a number of related literatures to give a clearer and broader explanation of the concept of digital currency, the various forms in which digital currency exists. A comparison of the degree of acceptability of different digital currencies was discussed with the mode of operation of digital currency. However, prospects and challenges for the adoption of digital currency as a tool for national development were also highlighted.

The informative role of communication technology in education and national development cannot be overemphasized. It has brought significant changes and improvements in this present century. With the ever-increasing rate in the adoption and usage of ICT gadgets, there still exists a noticeable gap due to poor mindset, disbelief, negligence, and lack of technological know-how of deployable innovations towards its application in curbing the menace (Child abuse and trafficking) which has a negative effect on the development of any nation. This paper examined through a well-planned and systematically conducted research on the beneficial roles of integrating ICT for the control of Child abuse and human trafficking with prior knowledge of the methods and adopted by child traffickers. Based on the result obtained, it clearly depicts that ICT can play a significant role in controlling child abuse and human trafficking in society if properly utilized with a great and promising mindset. However, the successful introduction and implementation of the use of ICT based gadgets requires the cooperation of government, non-governmental or private organizations and individuals in sharing information and communicating in a timely manner to avert the associated problems that may arise due to child abuse and trafficking

This present age is characterized with the usage of intelligent systems in almost every spectrum of human life and endeavour. Considerably, these intelligent systems have embedded knowledge and exhibit artificial intelligence which enable them perform special functions with utmost relevance within the shortest time duration, thus generating result similar to that of a natural (human expert). Intelligent systems deployed through innovations in Artificial Intelligence have greatly and positively impacted the human race in several areas of applications (i.e., agriculture, business, economy, business, medicine, warfare etc.). However, its influence can be more resounding when properly channelled towards education, as education is known to be the bedrock of knowledge. Many intelligent systems developed have classified students only based on their learning rates, one-time achievement test score or previous cognitive performance without consideration of the teachers and parents role in departmental selection. In this paper, the role of Artificial Intelligence was channelled towards education by developing a rule based intelligent system to aid school administrators in the placement of students (grade nine) into departments which suits their cognitive ability by combining the three educational assessment domains from students with both parent choice and teachers assessment in the departmental placement of students and later develop their interest in a chosen field or career. A high accuracy of 95.87 % generated by the fuzzy system depicts it as a very accurate and reliable tool for students' departmental placement.

The introduction of computers and ICT related gadgets in education is presently yielding noticeable impacts and it's been widely accepted to aid learning. Thus, creating an ever increasing desire and urge in school owners, teachers, parents and students to acquire them for learning. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of computer usage proficiency on both teachers' pedagogical knowledge and students' academic performance. A total of two hundred (200) respondents selected through a stratified random sampling technique comprising of forty (40) respondents (twenty-five (25) teachers and (15) students) each from five selected Junior Secondary Schools in Ogun state, Nigeria served as the research population. Collated data were analyzed using frequency counts and Chi-Square at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Also, three null hypotheses were formulated to determine the significant relationship among computer usage proficiency, teachers' pedagogical competence and students' academic performance. Research findings revealed that computer assisted approach is the most preferred teacher's pedagogical approach indicating that old and long-service teachers show poor approach towards employing computers and ICT gadgets to aid teaching and learning. The study further established that teachers' pedagogical competence is not independent of computer knowledge which will resultantly influence students' academic performance positively.

This paper proposes an Embedded Arduino Automatic Irrigation-Control System (EAAICS), which monitors and maintains the desired soil moisture content via automatic watering using embedded technology. The methodology employed in this paper is solely based on the integration of both hardware and software components to design and implement an App-controlled irrigation system, which solely depends on the soil moisture content. Input to the system was derived from soil samples with the aid of a soil moisture sensor and a microcontroller controlled the rate of flow of water from an electric water pump. A prototype was tested using a flower pot containing an ornamental plant, which was watered adequately through the mobile application and it grew to become a beautiful and blossom plant after forty days. The prototype showed that it would really help bring more yield from crop production if introduced into many farms regardless of the size. To perceive the ease of system's usefulness, it was later introduced to small and large-scale farmers to aid their farming activities and evaluated with the Technology Accepted Model (TAM). The results yielded a high acceptance rate by the respondents, which in turn signifies the importance of introducing embedded technology in automating irrigation system for better productivity. .
