Excellence in community service and engagement Jimma University's motto is " We are in the Community! " and it is with pride that Community Based Education (CBE) is foundational to all academic programs at Jimma University. Jimma University seeks to get away from the academic ivory tower model, and makes sure that all students and faculty engage directly with local communities in order to understand social problems beyond the classroom and in real life. Students get hands on experience working on a variety of projects through the flagship and nationally renowned Community Based Education program. Jimma University as an institution is also heavily involved in the development of the local city, Jimma, and everyone from first year students to the university leadership are actively engaged in the betterment of the local society. Jimma University has made it a priority to ensure that education is community based and allows for the creation of practically minded, problem solving oriented professionals each year. Therefore, community based education is the third pillar of Jimma University. Integrated training service and research Community-Based Education in General has enabled the University ■ To train professionals in diverse of studies in a community setting ■ To encourage a team approach in treating societal problems ■ To work with local communities with greater conviction ■ To undertake problem based research activities which take into consideration the priority needs of the community The Role of Jimma University in the City's Development Since its establishment, Jimma University has been playing a great role in Jimma city's development. Students embark on this path of community service early in their academic career though the Community Based Education (CBE) program. As part of their studies, students begin the CBE program in their first year and continue active participation throughout the course of their studies. Students go directly into communities to apply their new knowledge and skills as well as their drive and passion to solve social development issues and address problems found in the community. Postgraduate students also conduct a Team Training Program a Development Team Training Program (DTTP) program in which students are posted as a team to identify priority social problems, plan, implement, and evaluate team activities according to the needs and resources of the community. Jimma University also ensures a high rate of technological transfer to the local community. As a leading research institution, Jimma University is constantly working towards having the most up to date and relevant technology that can serve the needs of the population and the nation at large.

The purpose of the study was to assess the practices of instructional supervision in supplementing teaching-learning process in secondary schools of Qersa and Omo Nada woreda of Jimma zone. It particularly treats issues of how instructional supervision is practiced in improving the holistic teaching learning process, how instructional supervisors render professional support to teachers to enhance classroom instruction, and what challenges are there in practicing instructional supervision in think of promoting the provision of quality education. To accomplish this purpose, the study employed a descriptive survey method, which is supplemented by quantitative and qualitative research method to enrich data.
